Dockery: "Good ring of guitar... a little Stones and a whole lot of the crunge.

"On a more constructive critical note, I'd like to hear the vocals a bit better, defined, I think may be the word... they are down in the mix too far for my taste, but I know that may have been what effect you were moving for."

Doc is not musically skilled. Typically, eyes start rolling whenever he tries to talk music. Then we laugh.

Credit where due; this is in all likelihood the closest thing to a critique Turd's ever written. Matthew must not be making his slurpage quota, as the review is clearly on the damn-him-with-faint-praise level. Apparently Matt borrowed from the Stones and Zep ("been there, heard that, second-hander") and recorded it with a mobile gizmo as the sound is muddy and the vocal can't be heard over the guitar.

HINT TO MATTHEW: Leave glowing comments on ten of Turd's videos ("Out-damn-standing!" or "One of your all-time best!" will suffice) and Turd will revise his opinion next time around.

I just had a listen and told Matt what I think of the song.

Since you probably haven't even listened to the song in question, a discussion on if you agree or not will have to wait until you actually hear the song.

"told" as in "Posted in response" to Matt's post of the lyrics and song:

Which did get at least two responses from Matt, in the thread:

Is "the crunge" a reference to Led Zeppelin or a combination of cringe and grunge? In keeping with Will's precise use of words, what is "effect you were moving for?"

Yes, it was... the song has some of the effects of that style.

It doesn't matter what it referred to, you *said* that you "told Matt" what you think.

When you *tell* someone something, it implies that you actually spoke (or wrote) to them.

If you haven't spoken to Matt, then you haven't actually *told* him anything.

You know damn well what I meant, and I did write/tell Matt about the song, right here on Usenet.

Using "said" for "wrote" is commonly accepted in reference to written communication.

"Told," however, specifically means that your message *reached* its recipient.

You can't have told Matt anything if he never received or read the message.

So, until such time as Matt acknowledges having read your remarks, you have not "told" him a thing.

In short, your use of "told" was just plain wrong.

Also, Will said, "I just had a listen and told Matt what I think of the song." To anyone who can read, that means that he listened seconds or minutes before right now. Instead, his comments on that website were from three years ago. Will's facility with words again bites him on the ass.

No, we mean facility, and we rate his facility with words at a 1 on a scale of 100 being the best. As to infelicity, it is true that words are not happy when mangled and strangled by Will.
