Yep, that is me too. But I never feel the urge to check the
weather or use google or cricket scores etc. When we download
the app, we will both have to trun our dats on when we go out.
As I understand it the info stays on your phone after being
collected by blue-tooth handshakes (elbow bumps) with people
within 15m of you who have the app. It is only if you come down
with Covid-19 that the information is uploaded to relevant State
Health dept.
It's 1.5 metres and contact with them for 15 minutes and it
doesn't record location - just the contact.
Exactly right
Post by FranI dunno about you but my chances of meeting that sort of time and
distance would only apply once a month to the members of my
spinning group (if that ever resumes again) or if I go out to
dinner (which is also rare enough these days).
If your spinning group is meeting again and/or you're out to dinner
the crisis will be over.
Not necessarily. If the takeup of this app is sufficient, then we
will be able to do those things. That's the point of the app.
OK if you think so
??? OK, so tell me what your conspiracy theory is about the app.
The point of the app is that if any new cluster appears (once it's
introduced and enough people take it up), it's then possibile to ony
shut down that area to confine it. That confined area than has to do
what we are doing now all over the country. The rest of the country
that does not have a cluster can get on with more close to 'normal'
business as usual.
It just makes sense to me that the app will get the economy and the
majority of the country back to business.
Post by DechuckaPost by DechuckaPost by FranPost by DechuckaJust heard a spokesman for whoever the Gov has got to test it for
privacy concerns says she'll have it on her phone. Another reason
I won't have it
Perhaps you should do your homework and do some reading up on it.
You are spreading wrong info.
Apart from missing a decimal point 1.5m not 15m my information is
corrects.
You missed out the 15 minutes contact as as far as I can see, that
is one very vital part of the app. From what I can make out,
neither you nor I will it that sort of contact time very often due
to how we live.
The info is stored on your phone till needed and you have to
Post by Dechuckagive consent to have it downloaded
That too. I can't see a problem.
Given my experience with the NSW Special Branch and my family
history, thanks but no thanks
I can imagine your history as I know what your name
See one has to be careful with the internet, all types of undesirables
( :-) )get ones information if one is slack or like me stupid :-)
Not at all stupid - you just had a single reader who a) still has a
reasonable memory for who writes what about their history, and b) has a
good knowledge of the area where you live (and claim to live. ;-) I
don't think anyone else noticed your post that gave me the clue I needed
to track you down.
Post by Dechuckais and you've hinted at a few things in the past but I still think
this app will be our best shot at getting back to normal.
Even though my fathers family were Lutheran my Great Grandmother had a
Jewish background which was enough for Dads family to be persecuted,
didn't help that Grandpa was what one could call a liberal intellectual
and spent time with Jewish relatives.
Yep.
Dad ended up on the
Post by DechuckaKindertransport to the UK sponsored by the Quakers, he wasn't Jewish
enough for the Jews to help him. His parents ended up hiding in the
Eisal Mtns for the rest of the War. Quite a few of his relatives weren't
so lucky so I've seen the Stolpersteine
My Grandfather was the one who tossed his Iron Cross off the Cologne
railway bridge in anger at the rise of Hitler. After the war he became a
Jew to stick it to the Nazis because there weren't enough Jews left in
Cologne to form a Synagogue, need 12?for a quorum. Not a very good Jew,
loved eel and pork, but enough to make up the numbers.
LOL. I know a couple of Jews who love bacon. But I also know a couple
of 'vegetarians' who also love bacon. Let's face it, (almost) everyone
loves bacon.
Post by DechuckaThe Special Branch stuff resulted from my Uni days and the fact that my
mates and I used to go to political meetings for the free piss. I ended
up with a dossier that caused me problems when it came to vetting later.
That's it, no hints that is the bare facts.
Lots of people had Special Branch files but I was never one of them as
far as I know. I used to love putting on my applications for security
clearances that I was a member of such subversive groups as the Lace
Knitters Group, the Machine Knitters Guild, various Spinners groups and
the CWA. Cop that lot spooks!
Post by DechuckaIf you are really worried that the app will somehow have had its
'uninstall' function disabled, you can (later as the emergency eases)
always adopt our normal way of using our phones - we never (currently)
have our phones turned on the data. We both just use the phone
function. We're prepared to change our phone use for what we think
will be the good of the country and normally, we are as paranoid as
all hell. I never even put anything with our names/address/personal
details into our garbage bins - I burn all such stuff. AND,
financially, unless the banks fail, this pandemic won't have any
impact on us. We figure, as good citizens, this is not something we
can sit back and ignore that we must do our bit even if it goes
against our normal inbuilt habits.
Good on you for doing this. I'm just a bit sick of politicians telling
me what to do.
Well we normally would be in that sort of group too (we both worked for
govt with probably a combined service time of at least 80 years so we
have no scales on our eyes about the fuckers), but this is, in our
opinions, a unique time in our human history and we think we need to
step up, do our bit and STFU.
Post by DechuckaOK after the last 6 months I'm turning into a grumpy old man and getting
less and less trustworthy of people's motivations
Grumpy is good IMO and absolutley vital given the morons we see here on
a daily basis but we do 'live in interesting times' right now. I'm
trying not to be grumpy about having to turn on my data and pay more for
that when my natural mode is to fly under all radars.
