This comes up time and again.

Everyone agrees it's bad to leave all attributions when snipping parts
of quoted text.

There are two common styles of handling attributions in this case:
- Leaving in only the last attribution
- Leaving in exactly those attributions that belong to the remaining
quote

I believe the second is much better.

Then, starting at the last attribution line, I delete upwards until the

That's it!

Done.

For those who think it's too much work [...]
That's hardly any work compared to that already spent on
deciding which parts of who's messages should remain

So do I, and also please not leave irrelevant detritus at the end of a
message, as some do. It's easily snipped.

A "convenience of the majority" rule should apply here. Some people feel
that cleaning up their post, including appropriate snipping, is too much
work. But if a post has one writer and many readers, then it's only
reasonable that the writer should do the work. Failing to do it wastes
the time of many people.

This argument is less compelling for a writer who is in many killfiles.

IAWTP, but am sometimes careless, I admit.

Likewise. I try to do it properly, but I'm not always very efficient.
