I just replaced all the rubber o-rings and gaskets in the top half of the
motor in my 1994 GTX. I took it outside, connected it to the hose, and
tried to crank it, but it tried to crank for a few seconds and then froze
up. It wouldn't turn over at all. So I let it charge for a few minutes,
thinking it might be the battery, and still no turn over. THEN THIS IS
WHERE IT GETS WEIRD I took the spark plugs off to see if it would turn over
with no compression. I hit the starter and a fountain of what looks like
muddy water came from both cylinders, covering the whole SeaDoo in muddy
water. What the heck is the problem? Anyone else experience this????

LOL.. this has GOT to be a work!

Did you and your Honda buddy extrusion
hone the carbs (while it was running) ???

Just on the off chance that this is a legitimate
post, you need to "start it, then turn on the
water," not "turn on the water, then start."

What's that supposed to mean?

I didn't think it mattered if you turned on the water before u started it.
I didn't touch the carbs, just took the top 2 covers off the engine and
replaced the gaskets and o-rings.....

You filled your engine with water.
The engine always goes on first, and gets shut off first.
Like this: Start engine, water on, water off, then engine off.

You can also let the engine run without water for about 30 seconds
to a minute, but be careful.

Search for tips on getting water out of the engine.

In short, spin the engine with the plugs out, put in new plugs,
then start engine. Ride for 15-20 minutes to 'dry' out the engine.

If you let the engine sit with water in it for more than 2-3 days,
it will rust together and be ruined !!!

The cooling system, including the exhaust is open on a PWC. You ran the
water, filled the system and exhaust pipe, then the water dumped into the
block.

You have only a couple hours time between the flooding and resurection to
get your engine going again, otherwise you need to pull it out, it's done.
Watch this vid to see how to purge and get it running. After doing so you
HAVE TO run it HARD ont he water for at least 20 min.

An owners manual or Service Manual clearly states flushing procedures. You
can purchase both from any local dealer.

I got all the water out and got it cranked and let it run in the driveway

You just made it worse if you did that. All you did was stir it up, get it
nice an WARM, but not hot, and very moist. Hot moist metal=RUST. You MUST
run it HARD on the water to get it HOT and drive that moisture out fast.
Count down the hours on that engine, and don't be surprised if you see a rod
out the bottom soon if you keep riding it.

We carry that engine for $699.

The water was brown because you were flushing exhaust byproducts
(technical term - gunk) back through the pipe into the engine by running
the water without the engine running. Don't ever run your ski in the
driveway for 15 minutes on a hose - yes you're cooling the engine but
not the driveline which is normally in the water and thus dissipates the
heat. As to the damage you may or may not have done, it may take time
to show up. You can start the rusting process on bearing surfaces and
it won't show up for several hours of operation. I like to put some
WD-40 into each cylinder after the drying out/running process (not a
lot, about 3 seconds worth) just to help coat and wash the piston
walls/bearings. Don't let it bother you a lot, if it goes, it goes,
there is nothing that can be done at this point and best to just ride
it, enjoy it and if the day comes, buy a shortblock from SBT and replace
it all.

Tom why would he by a cow if all he may need is gallon of milk?
You never seas to amuse me.
( don't let it bother you ? )

A smart man would inspect connecting ruds and piston ring groves.
Slightly bent connecting rud may work till the end of season, and if rings
push the piston material up and down in the grove then it is only a
question of time before this man will be forced to take a second mortgage.

It is easy to spent some one else's money ha Tom?

Matt do a visual top end inspection, if you see shiny spot between piston
groves on the exhaust side, replace pistons.
Smart tuner can inspect your connecting ruds with out taking engine apart.
And never believe avery thing you see on this NG, it is still infested with
what I call Two Stroke Rapists.
Believe me, piston set is much cheaper then yanking enter engine out and
possibly replacing it.
I say, prevention is always cheaper then repaired work.
Who knows you may not have to replace anything, but you will sleep better
knowing that all is well with your power plant.

Don't let it bother you a lot, if it goes, it goes,
there is nothing that can be done at this point and best to just ride
it, enjoy it and if the day comes, buy a shortblock from SBT and replace
it all.

Luckily, Matt (and virtually everybody else on this NG) is smart enough NOT
to follow it.

If you think that the "O" ring is there to stop the water from entering

You will never make it as a tuner dude.

to carpenter again? What a dork.
If you think that the "O" ring is there to stop the water from entering
cylinder then you better hang up and learn how to engage your brain in the
gear before dropping the clutch.
I CANT BELEIVE YOU WOULD MAKE SUCH A STUPID COMMENT.
HERE IS A VERY REAL EXAMPLE IDIOT.
LET'S SAY HE DID PINCH AN O'RING WHEN INSTALLING THE HEAD, THEN HE GOES AND
TURNS ON THE HOSE TO RUN THE MOTOR , HE STATED THAT HE TURNED ON THE HOSE
BEFORE HE STARTED THE MOTOR, SO THE WATER'S RUNNING FILLING THE WATER PASSAGES
INTILL IT GETS TO THE TOP THE THE CYLINDER, WHERE THE ORINGS PINCHED. .,WONDER
WHERE THAT WATERS GOING TO GO JACKASS.

Matt, you need to have the unit running before you turn on the water.
Otherwise the water will back fill from the exhaust and fill the cylinders
up with water. I know other people who have done this so don't feel bad.

Anyone else experience this????

so then I figured I should go ahead and get the rest of the rust out, so I
put some sand in the cylinders and cranked the engine up to sandblasat it
because I hear that is the thing to do. Then I let a good 25 lb. bag of
sand suck into the intake and run through the pump. I think it will be good
as new now... ;-)
