Seemed rather stand-offish dismounting the cars in the top-3 area, in
the post-race cool-down room, and during the champagne shower. Must have
been having his period.

And for the podium anthems did he simply reverse his cap rather that
removing it ?

Bottas now leads in the WDC chase (87 to 86).
I do not think even the majority of Hamilton's fans
will try to claim he is a gracious loser.

But he is a gracious loser. He congratulated Valterri as soon as he could
and prsied hin in his post-race interview. He didn't make excuses for his
own performance or in any way detract from Valterris win.

However if you're expecting a competitve top athlete, as well as praising
the guy that beat him, to control and change all of his non-verbal clues and
body language (where there is no escape from a camera and the adrenaline is
wearing off) then I think you're asking too much.

You too geoff, as you're the OP in this thread.

Agreed. On the cool down lap I was *hoping* to see LH give VB a massive
hug and a "well done", and then be smiley on the podium because the team
did so well.

But I think he really wanted that win, he never settled for second, and
whilst I'm certain that if he had been ahead after turn 1 he would have
dominated a little more than Bottas did, on the day he would be reflecting
that he was simply out-driven at the key times of qualifying and the start.

He must also be recognising that VB is a stronger contender for being his
title rival than he would have expected at the end of last season so there's
no point in patronising VB with a "well done, you don't win many so I'm
pleased for you" sort of attitude.

Also, whilst I am not holier than though, using phrases like "on the rag"
(geoff) has a touch of misogyny about it which I'd have thought this group
was better than these days?

Yep. Also Hamilton has usually struggled with this track whereas Bottas is a
bit of a Baku specialist. For a race on a track that he doesn't particularly
like or usually do well at I think Hamilton drove well.

Look for Hamilton to bounce back in Spain (as well as quite a few other
tracks later in the year that he usually does very well on).

Casual misogyny, racism and homophobia are alive and well in Australasia.
Social justice hasn't made as big of an impact on the antipodean psyche as
it has elsewhere in the English speaking world.

Still, can't imagine where the misogyny is in suggesting somebody had

Or for that matter suggesting a male was suffering from menstrual

I don't think anyone interpreted "on the rag" as meaning LH was cleaning up
an oil spill.

The misogyny is in using the phrase to correlate with a stereotype of a
woman being in a bad mood because her period is occurring. It's a
stereotype, a poor one, and as 50% of the world deals with the day to day
practicalities of having periods for large chunks of their lives lumping
all their experiences together in a casual phrase which grossly simplifies
their experiences is, in my personal view of the world, inappropriate.

But we all see things differently.

What a bunch of wowsers ! (Hope that is not a too offensive word for the
over-delicate amongst us).

FWIW I live in a household that has had up to five females at one time,
all beyond puberty. They can all attest to the reality of the concept
that women, more often that not, have a marked deterioration in mood
during menstruation.

They are all sophisticated, educated, modern women. None of them would
be offended by the use of that term in the context of describing a
taciturn grumpy male. They would take offence, if used in a derogatory
manner directed towards a woman.

And as for stereotypes, there is a reason why they exist.

My stereotype is Sony, NAD, and KEF.

Now lets leave the red stuff for Ferrari and move on, that is if we can
get over VET's occasional red mist.

It wasn't the house posting. It also had two males, one of which was me,

household didn't own it, but it did have it located therein, so yes, 'had'.

As someone in their mid 60s I'm usually very NOT PC and honestly
despise the current snowflake world of getting offended and reporting
it to police, hate crimes etc. all pathetic IMHO.

However, when I first read your original post my initial reaction was
- that's very crude, unnecessary and I can imagine any lady readers
quite rightly taking a dim view.

Then we had some PC rants which smacked of snowflakes straight out of
some university somewhere. So I'm confused now because I despise
snowflake thinking and I disliked that post.

Look what you've done to me guys!

Q: Well done today. Lewis, we’ll start at the start as well. Just how close was it between you and Valtteri and how tough is it to judge how hard to push against your team-mate?

LH: It’s always difficult to judge. But Valtteri did an exceptional job all weekend and today he was very fair in giving space and after that he was faultless. So today he truly deserved the win. It was a great race. It was really cool that we could push as hard as we could all the way to the end. It was great that the team allowed us to do that. Also just the team’s performance throughout the whole weekend, the engineers, everyone back at the factory who are just constantly delivering 100%. This is truly the strongest season we’ve ever started with but really deservingly in the sense of just how hard everyone has worked in the delivery, so really proud to be a part of it and this is a really great result for everyone.

Q: You mentioned the start to the season. That’s four straight 1-2s. Is this also the best form as a team you’ve produced in the time that you’ve been there?

LH: I think so, yeah, definitely. Valtteri’s really, clearly stepped up this year and is really happy in the car and really delivering and driving fantastically, so it’s going to take some really great performances from both of us to out-perform each other. And that’s how it should be. Hopefully at some stage Ferrari will be in the mix with us. I think this weekend, I do think they had the performance to be on the front row with both of their cars. From our data we saw that Seb didn’t get a tow, for example, which is worth four or five tenths or something, so he probably would have been on pole had he got that tow and the race would have been maybe more exciting. So, again, it takes one hundred per cent deliver throughout the weekend, which we, I think, were as close to that as possible. They’re going to have to pick it up if they want to fight us.

Seems very, very mature to me.

I don't watch the anthems as I don't think they have a place in a money
'sport'. Recently Hamilton has taken to not always removing his balaclava
after a race, instead sometimes rolling it up and wearing it under his cap
like a (thin) beanie (or maybe a taqiyah?). Perhaps that is what you

Can't find a replay anywhere easy.
No, he removed it and placed on top of his champagne bottle. However, he
appeared to be perhaps wearing some sort of black skullcap.

If so, that's the first time I've seen that behavior.

Curious - did HAM leave his cap on (reversed) for the podium anthems
? Can't find a replay anywhere easy.

I just watched that and you're right. It seems the skullcap is also worn
under his fireproof balacalava. Despite the relentless camera work there was
a few short periods he wasn't on camera between end of race and podium. That
said he did take off hs balacalava quickly and surreptitiously while Paul
DiResta was between him and the camera and quickly put his cap on and it did
appear he always had that skullcap on so it must be made of fireproof
material.

He's been either leaving his (rolled up) balacalava on or now using this
skullcap most (all?) of this season. Perhaps it's something to do with the
tight braids he now has his hair in? (To stop them catching in the balaclava
/ cap maybe and / or extra cushioning for his helmet?) Or it could in fact
be a taqiyah (although there's nothing that a quick search can find about
him convertig to Islam).

I've just done a few searches about the subject and the only hits I got that
were pertinent were a couple 'tweets', one rabid user complaining about him
not uncovering his head for the anthems and calling him a bloody low life
(sic).

I've got the highlights from Bahrain & China and he was bare-headed on
both podiums. Don't have Australia to check. OK, searched for Australian
GP podium and there are pictures of him wearing it:

Seemed rather stand-offish dismounting the cars in the top-3 area, in
the post-race cool-down room, and during the champagne shower. Must have
been having his period.
"geoff" disgraces this F1 newsgroup by addressing us with his vile personal metaphor.
