Mine would have to be Toni Basil's version of BE STIFF. It captures
the early Devo spirit perfectly.

I haven't heard the VGS's TIME OUT FOR FUN yet. I'll have to look for
it. I agree with you about PITY YOU, though.

recently.

It's so bad, it's...bad. Music ain't too shabby, tho.

Don't let negative comments hold you back. If you study history on many
accomplishments created by man, artistic or otherwise, someone was almost
always there to trash it and bad mouth it.
Besides, while I love Devo, let's face it, Mark Mothersbaugh is not that
great of a singer. At least in my opinion. And look at what great things he
still managed to accomplish.

What do you use?
I started with a Roland TR-505, then I got a Boss DR-550 Mk II, and now I
use a Boss DR-670 (which also has basslines).

Well, hey, there ya go! I always liked it, although it's the only one
I ever had, so I can't tell how good it is. For my two Devo covers, I
used it strictly with a Mac-based MIDI sequencer rather than trying to
program patterns with the pads. The reviewers are right...the lack of
a "back" button really sucks when you are trying to put down a single
hit in a big pattern. A lot easier with Metro. But that was like 10
years ago when I made those!

Nah, on that I used the ol' Yamaha DD-9 drum pads, with their built-in
crappy sound. These days I use a Roland SPD-6 as a midi trigger.

Fu Manchu do a good version of Freedom of Choice (last track on the King Of
The Road album I think).

New Zealand band Shihad (now called Pacifier) had a rocked up version of
Gates of Steel as a b-side of a CD single (Debs Night Out according to my
research). I only ever heard it once on the radio, I'd love to hear it
again!

i'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said, but i feel i should
contribute since the question was asked... i do greatly enjoy Nirvana's
"Turnaround", and i think that Soundgarden's "Girl U Want" is an interesting
re-interpretation, not terrible, but not much of a "Devo cover". perhaps an
interesting sub-thread would be "what songs that Devo has covered did you
like the original version better?". personally, i could do without "Itsy
Bitsy..." but most of their covers i like as much as, or more than, the
original. then again, i've never heard the original of "Worried Man"

I could do without "Don't Be Cruel". It doesn't reinterpret the
original like "Satisfaction" did, or add anything new. I expect more
from Devo.

Yeah, it's good, but after many playings I got tired of those Resident
conversations with those little kids that are in between the songs. I
usually skip them now. How about the Resident's cover of "Satisfaction"? It
came out around the same time as Devo's cover, and it's extremely atonal,
and harsh. One person I played it to said it was "unlistenable".

CD, but only the original ESD release.
I see the single on eBay all the time. It's on transparent yellow vinyl.
