U have decided that the Ceremony to announce the 2017 BTAs will be my
last as Monitor. I was flattered to be offered the post some years ago
and have enjoyed my time in office, but I now feel the time has come
etc. etc.

I trust that this will not bring an end to a noble tradition but that
somerat will step forward to receive my mantle.

The date for the 2018 Ceremony has yet to be set but you will all be
notified in due course and in time for you to make the necessary
preparations.

That is very sad but I can understand you need a break. It is a lot of
work, especially the record-keeping and final judging. I am sure we
will all want to join in giving you a gift at the ceremony to show how
we appreciate your hard work, but meanwhile I just want you to have
this box of chocolates as a token. With my best wishes.

I fully understand, MOPMOB. I am also very sad to hear it; I think you
have done an outstanding job, showing excellent discernment combined
with grace, diligence and the necessary firmness and unflappability. In
short, you have been an exemplary BTM, to whom we all owe a great debt
of gratitude.

Um...Jenny is a very tough act to follow, but if umrats think it's a
good idea, I'd be willing to try it and see how it goes. I certainly
don't want to push for it if otherrats would like to take over the
mantle, though.

And from MTAAW. My only worry is that being BTM might inhibit Sid's
occasional posting of BT, leaving the field clear for Britters to win in
every category.

I agree with all these posts. Sad to see Jenny stand down but very happy
to see Sid stride towards the wicket (I refuse to say step up to the plate)

I suugest we might find it a great deal easier to get this proposal in
operation than a certain other vote in a certain other place. Good old

I should like to thank umrats for their support and I hereby declare
myself elected.
<chokes on white smoke>

I shall now take the oath of office:

I, Sid Nuncius, do solemnly swear. I also swear in a more lighthearted
manner sometimes. So help me God.
<waves condescendingly>

Jenny - the cheque for £39bn is in the post and I'm happy to take over
just as soon as we've sorted out a backstop arrangement for the BT/MV
border. I see that Fenny has a BTN pending; would you care to do the
honours until after the ceremony, or would you prefer to relinquish the
burden of office now?

This whole thread took me a while of thought to follow but thank you
:) it was worth the effort.

B wants to know who owns the house, was it part of his pay off, did he
just get lots of money as payoff and buy it, is it owned by the UK
government who keep houses to give to turned spies and he is asking
does S ..umbrella get compensation from the UK government, and do they
bill Russia for the repairs?

Can I remind you that the Russians were simply here to have a look

to St Petersburg to look at their cathedral (which is actually rather
more impressive).

Peter the Great had its spire made ta0ller than the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great in Moscow, as a political act.
But wickeđpaedia says it is only 122 metres high.
I refer the honourable umrat to the answer I gave earlier: Viagra is the
answer...

Wikedpedia says its spire is 123m. We are talking about the Peter and Paul cathedral, aren't we?

Tony, I know Google gropes has its foibles but when you include no quoted
text in your posts it can be very difficult to tell what you are talking
about :(

I think he may have taken the new BTN Monitor's (may only praise and good things be given
to him and all who sail in him) cutting remarks too much to heart.

U have decided that the Ceremony to announce the 2017 BTAs will be my
last as Monitor.  I was flattered to be offered the post some years
ago and have enjoyed my time in office, but I now feel the time has
come etc. etc.
I trust that this will not bring an end to a noble tradition but that
somerat will step forward to receive my mantle.
The date for the 2018 Ceremony has yet to be set but you will all be
notified in due course and in time for you to make the necessary
preparations.
I fully understand, MOPMOB. I am also very sad to hear it; I think you
have done an outstanding job, showing excellent discernment combined
with grace, diligence and the necessary firmness and unflappability.
In short, you have been an exemplary BTM, to whom we all owe a great
debt of gratitude.
Um...Jenny is a very tough act to follow, but if umrats think it's a
good idea, I'd be willing to try it and see how it goes. I certainly
don't want to push for it if otherrats would like to take over the
mantle, though.
A vote for Sid here!!
Here too also as well - but only if we can find a system that means that
Sid doesn't have to autonominate (f'narr, f'narr).
