Allegation that racing driver Daniel Abt used a "ringer" in an e-race.

(i.e. turned his camera and microphone off and had someone else secretly sit in the seat and actually do the race!)

It used to occur a lot in horse racing before it was far more sophisticated than now (where a lookalike horse or "ringer" was entered instead) - and in boxing and athletics in pre TV days).

Check media for more.

Yeah, so what? It's a fake race. Might as well use a fake driver.

Wow, that's so devastating to find out. I won't look at fake races the
same anymore.

Very rarely will I ever be on the same side of an issue as Texy baby but...

Esports is big business and people get paid a lot of money for it. You might think of it as 'fake
racing' but that opinion doesn't make it any less serious to those involved in organising and
participating in esports. Also for a driver of Abt's standing to cheat then it must mean something
to 'real racers' wouldn't you think?

Frankly eRacing isn't my cup of tea either. That said I watched the New Zealand Toyota Racing
Series (TRS) earlier this year. It was won by Igor Fraga who beat RBR-backed F3 driver and last
years TRS champion Liam Lawson to the title.

Fraga was relatively new to 'real racing', especially at this level but was a 'Gran Turismo'
champion and raced with backing from them. He was bloody good considering he was the least
experienced driver in the field and beat some very talented guys to win the championship.

Well, Abt is now without an Audi drive. Sacked. And if his stooge was a professional gamer, Oli and Stoffel did really well.

Fair enough. He's claiming now that it was a joke. He doesn't seem to be laughing though? It's a
long way down from racing in a series that used to bear his surname as one of the (endless list of)
sponsors / financial supporters.

And if his stooge was a professional gamer, Oli and Stoffel did really well.

He lead most of the race until contact with Stoffel then he came back through to take 3rd.
