CHICKEN TORTILLA SOUP
Janet 6/13

2 Tbsp corn oil
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced green pepper
1 cup diced red pepper
Several Anaheim-type peppers, diced
1 Jalapeno pepper diced

-The hot peppers used here suit the spiciness level for my family.
Adjust up or down to suit you.

3 cloves garlic, minced
One quart of chicken stock or 1 box chicken stock
1 can diced tomatoes
2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained
1 to 1 ½ teaspoon cumin
Some salt to taste
1 ½ cup cooked chicken diced or torn ( I generally use left over
rotisserie chicken)
Add Drippings from rotisserie chicken to pot.

Really important to taste for salt before serving.

Nice simple recipe. I make something similar often. Usually float
some cheese, corn tortilla chips, avocado slices and maybe a spoon of
fresh pico de gallo on top before serving... also a lime wedge on the
side.

Okay, I like Chicken Tortilla Soup but I've read this through twice and
see no mention of the tortilla strips.

'cause there's no unsend button. ;) I ususally take corn tortillas
and slice them, toss with a smidge of oil and salt, spread on a cookie
sheet and bake until crispy. I like those better than corn chips. But
I do use corn chips sometimes as well. Thsi is a xoup that can be
topped with a dab of sour cream, slices of avocado, radish slices, a
wedge of lime etc. Again, no unsend.
Most of my 'recipes' are lists of ingredients. The rest I just
remember to do. I forgot to add the rest for readers.

I hear ya'! Some recipes, when we pretty much know how to do it by
rote, leave out a step or something in writing which in our minds is
obvious. Like the tortilla strips. :)

Your newsreader doesn't have a "delete" button? Mine's in red (older
version of Thunderbird) next to Archive / Send / Reply buttons when
viewing a message. You have to refresh the newsgroup, click on your
mistaken message (copy the info from it), "delete" it -- a pop up window
says "un-sent" or something like that -- then compose a new message and
paste the info that you copied, to edit it, if you wish.
I've done this several times, at least a few times when I meant to
e-mail something but accidentally posted it, then "unsent" in a minor
panic right away. No one ever quoted one of those messages of mine, so
presumably it works. (If not, I assume they chuckled and moved along. Lol)
You can delete a post? I'd like to see that. Try the post that I've quoted above. That would be pretty cool.

I think that trying to "delete" a Usenet post is like trying to catch
up with someone who's running faster than you.

The first Russian state was founded in 882 by slave-raiding Swedish Vikings.

The Vikings were the enemies of the Anglo Saxons. The Anglo Saxons went on to found
what we now know as the US. The Vikings created Russia. And the battle continues. Isn't
history something?

I've certainly done it before. I meant to say "cancel" the post, not
"unsend". Again, in my newsreader (Thunderbird v. 3.1.20), the "DELETE"
button next to "ARCHIVE" next to "SEND" and "FORWARD" will cancel the
message.

I imagine newer versions have this feature. I don't know if Google
Groups have this feature or not.

Now, if someone's news reader happens to catch the post before I cancel
the message, then it's too bad for me. I've heard that some servers
reject cancel requests these days.

Read up below:

*WARNING* *DANGER* This is a HTTP only link ;)

http://wiki.killfile.org/projects/usenet/faqs/cancel/

Quote from the link:

I. What are cancel messages?
============================
A. What are cancel messages?

Cancel messages are a specialized form of message to Usenet
that, when they arrive at a server, request that the post bearing the
Message-ID contained within be deleted. In essence, a cancel message,
if heeded, cancels another post. Hence the name.

That information is more than two decades out of date.

Very few usenet servers allow you to cancel your own posts these days,
although many news clients lead you to think a cancel works by
removing the canceled article from news client. eg. Thunderbird. You
can no longer read your cancelled post, but the rest of the world can,
because the article is still on the news server.

Hmm, thanks.  I'm going to test that out later, and send a message,
canceling it 10 seconds later.  If anyone is reading this, and sees my

Few, if any servers have honoured cancel messages in years, decades
even, to my knowledge. And it's pointless anyway, unless all servers
do the same.

Is it the server or his newsreader? Is the same post staying in his
out box for some reason? Mozilla IS rather flakey like that.
I've never heard of an nntp server doing such a thing before.

Hmm, thanks. I'm going to test that out later, and send a message,
canceling it 10 seconds later. If anyone is reading this, and sees my
post later, please comment on it. I'm curious if it works or not.
Yes, I see it.
Also, your servers seems to have some sort of chronic problem. I cannot
remember the exact text, but every few weeks it repeats a post where
you say you will never again respond to one of Bruce's posts.
Wait, were you being sarcastic, or serious? I can't tell.
Sorry, I was kidding.
Uhm, Ghe Ghe Ghe. This is my frogger. Yes. Ghe Ghe Ghe :)))))))))))

I think M Trew is trying to say that he doesn't agree.

'cause there's no unsend button.;)
Lol)
Isn't that like unspeaking something? I don't think you can. Many
politicians would make great use of it. ;)

*WARNING* *DANGER* This is a HTTP only link ;)

I. What are cancel messages?
============================
A. What are cancel messages?
Cancel messages are a specialized form of message to Usenet
that, when they arrive at a server, request that the post bearing the
Message-ID contained within be deleted. In essence, a cancel message,
if heeded, cancels another post. Hence the name.
