REC: Chicken Tortilla Soup

CHICKEN TORTILLA SOUP
Janet 6/13
2 Tbsp corn oil
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced green pepper
1 cup diced red pepper
Several Anaheim-type peppers, diced
1 Jalapeno pepper diced
-The hot peppers used here suit the spiciness level for my family.
Adjust up or down to suit you.
3 cloves garlic, minced
One quart of chicken stock or 1 box chicken stock
1 can diced tomatoes
2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained
1 to 1 ½ teaspoon cumin
Some salt to taste
1 ½ cup cooked chicken diced or torn ( I generally use left over
rotisserie chicken)
Add Drippings from rotisserie chicken to pot.
Really important to taste for salt before serving.

Nice simple recipe. I make something similar often. Usually float
some cheese, corn tortilla chips, avocado slices and maybe a spoon of
fresh pico de gallo on top before serving... also a lime wedge on the
side.

'cause there's no unsend button. ;) I ususally take corn tortillas
and slice them, toss with a smidge of oil and salt, spread on a cookie
sheet and bake until crispy. I like those better than corn chips. But
I do use corn chips sometimes as well. Thsi is a xoup that can be
topped with a dab of sour cream, slices of avocado, radish slices, a
wedge of lime etc. Again, no unsend.
Most of my 'recipes' are lists of ingredients. The rest I just
remember to do. I forgot to add the rest for readers.

I hear ya'! Some recipes, when we pretty much know how to do it by
rote, leave out a step or something in writing which in our minds is
obvious. Like the tortilla strips. :)

Your newsreader doesn't have a "delete" button? Mine's in red (older
version of Thunderbird) next to Archive / Send / Reply buttons when
viewing a message. You have to refresh the newsgroup, click on your
mistaken message (copy the info from it), "delete" it -- a pop up window
says "un-sent" or something like that -- then compose a new message and
paste the info that you copied, to edit it, if you wish.
I've done this several times, at least a few times when I meant to
e-mail something but accidentally posted it, then "unsent" in a minor
panic right away. No one ever quoted one of those messages of mine, so
presumably it works. (If not, I assume they chuckled and moved along. Lol)

You can delete a post? I'd like to see that. Try the post that I've quoted above. That would be pretty cool.

Yes you can cancel a post but only your own post. Probably not from
Google though.

I've certainly done it before. I meant to say "cancel" the post, not
"unsend". Again, in my newsreader (Thunderbird v. 3.1.20), the "DELETE"
button next to "ARCHIVE" next to "SEND" and "FORWARD" will cancel the
message.

I imagine newer versions have this feature. I don't know if Google
Groups have this feature or not.

Now, if someone's news reader happens to catch the post before I cancel
the message, then it's too bad for me. I've heard that some servers
reject cancel requests these days.

Don't know what you're seeing on your end, but if you tried to cancel
eternal-september news server. I just read it and followed up with
this post.

Few, if any servers have honoured cancel messages in years, decades
even, to my knowledge. And it's pointless anyway, unless all servers
do the same.

Is it the server or his newsreader? Is the same post staying in his
out box for some reason? Mozilla IS rather flakey like that.
I've never heard of an nntp server doing such a thing before.
