Post by Ian J. BallPost by UbiquitousWhat did you watch?
soaps: GH - Cutie Willow and Chase get all "wet" and then get out of
their wet clothes, and yet Cutie Willow never took the opportunity to
jump Chase's bones, which I thought was odd; but in the end, when she's
putting her clothes back on, it's revealed that Willow has... one of
those "NXIVM"-type tattoos! Shocking twist, yo! Relatedly, Molly, who
hasn't interacted with Kristina in a while is shocked by Kristina's
involvement with Shiloh's whole deal, and to Kristina's face calls it
what it is - a cult! Meanwhile, Ava is still reeling from the Ryan/Kevin
revelation (and I wouldn't want to be Kevin, right now!!).
Game of Thrones (HBO Go) - Episodes #6.7 & 6.8.
OMG! He's alive! The Hound's alive!! (Actually, I had been spoiled
about this revelation some time ago, so this did not come as a surprise
to me, even if The Hound's circumstances did.)
OMG!! It's friggin' Ian McShane as the Guest Star!! Now, this, OTOH,
I was *not* expecting, so it was a total surprise to see McShane on this
show.
Cool wasn't it. :-)
Too bad his character only lasts an episode.
Not cool, wasn't it. :-(
Post by Ian J. Ball OMG!!! It's friggin' BELLA RAMSEY from "THE WORST WITCH" playing
Lyanna Mormont!! This I totally DID NOT SEE coming! (I guess that's how
Ramsey got "The Worst Witch" gig...)
I forgot all about The Worst Witch. I think I stopped watching around
episode 2 or *maybe* 3.
Post by Ian J. Ball Anyway, I found these episodes pretty enjoyable, esp. the Arya parts.
In Braavos, Arya is trying to escape, but The Waif is hot in pursuit and
manages to stab Arya; Arya manages to find refuge with the actress she'd
saved previously, but ultimately Arya needs to have a final "showdown"
with The Waif - I really liked the final scene where Arya basically
tells Jaqen H'ghar to piss off!
Jon, Sansa and Davos try to organize an army to take back Winterfell.
In a related storyline, Brienne tries to negotiate a way out for Sansa's
uncle, the "Blackfish", after Jamie Lannister seiges Blackfish's castle.
(Pod and Bronn are reunited in an amusing scene!) - in the end, Jamie
lets Brienne (and Pod) escape (back to Sansa, presumably).
Theon and sister Yara have fled to Essos, in the hopes of offering
their services to Daenerys.
In Meereen, Varys departs on a mysterious mission (I suspect it's to
talk to the Greyjoys), and then Meereen is attacked by the slavers!
Tyrion and co. are trapped in the pyramid! But look who shows up at the
end!
In King's Landing, I did enjoy The Mountain and Cersei sticking it to
the Sparrows, even if that move ended up coming back to bite Cersei in
the ass - if Cersei didn't want her own son dead before, she should want
him dead now! Meanwhile, Margeary manages to get a message to Olenna
Tyrell and tells her to get out of Dodge!
The last two episodes of the season should cover the battle for
Winterfell, and Cersei's "trial", so I'm looking forward to getting to
them!
The Magicians (recorded) - "Home Improvement" (ep. #4.8). A decent
episode, though it didn't bowl me over - I did like Quentin and the
"Falcor!" bit...
Alice goes home to her mother (Judith Hoag) in order to cast a spell
to help Zelda find daughter Harriet in the "Mirror Realm". Margo insists
upon helping Fenn on her "quest" to find the dream... spirit(?), and
Fenn's destiny revelation is surprising. Julia and Kady have to fix the
situation when Julia's and Quentin's latest "quest" goes horribly wrong,
dragging in Penny 23 and Felicia Day into the mess, as well!
This was pretty much the extent of what I watched yesterday - I did
catch some of the first "Fam" episode last night.
Recorded for later: The second "Fam" episode, and "Legacies"(!!).
I watched:
Star Trek: Discovery - "Project Daedalus" Team Disco travels to Section
31's heavily armed base to have a few words with them. Meanwhile Spock
and Michael bond over a game of chess. Plus we learned a lot more about
Airiam, while simultaneously keeping us in the dark about her character.
Pretty good episode.
Deadly Class - I forgot to mention when I watched last week's episode
"The Clampdown" which dealt with the school trying to track down which
student was responsible for the deaths of students earlier in the season.
This week's episode, "Kids of the Black Hole" was the penultimate
episode and continues that thread with everyone pretty much picking a
side between the school headmaster (Benedict Wong) and his evil sister.
Given Wong runs a school for assassins, calling his sister is *evil* is
saying something. Although I guess technically, the lead kids we follow
week to week aren't really aware of the situation between Wong and his
sister, although they are responsible for setting everything in motion.
Captive State (theatrical) Sci-fi movie about an insurgent group trying
to fight against an alien occupation of the U.S./world. The movie
starts off with a copy trying to get his family out of Chicago just as
Congress signs an armistice with the aliens. We learn during the
opening credits that after the signing of the armistice the aliens have
sealed off sections of every city on Earth and forced humans to build
them underground habitats. Also during this time the rich have gotten
richer, while the poor have gotten poorer. The movie picks up 9 years
later where one of the cop's kids is now a young man living under alien
occupation. He's doing some menial labor job for the aliens. His
brother was a resistance leader and thought killed during an insurgency
attack years ago. But his brother shows up very much alive warning him
an attack is imminent and to get out of the city (which is *not* easy).
Meanwhile John Goodman stars as a cop working for the aliens (the aliens
run the police forces) who is tracking the insurgency trying to stop
them. This movie felt a lot like the Josh Holloway TV series, "Colony"
with a touch of "They Live" thrown in. We mostly follow an insurgency
group as they try to take on the aliens with little to no resources
while the overall society has been co-opted by the alien invading force.
I really would have liked to see more about human society under the
occupation. Given the entire movie is set on Earth, we saw very little
of what day to day life was like for the average person, other than
everyone was clearly living in a police state. Overall, it's a good
movie and worth checking out. Again, it's basically the movie version
of "Colony."
