I didn't like Tom deciding to follow Natasha's advice about wood chip.
I agreed with Tpny's point that she is not a farmer and think Tom
might be rushing to follower her advice, blinded by ..er..his porky
passion. I do hope they can make a go of it together though, except
it sounds from spoilers as if Hannah will turn out to be a bunny
boiler. Tom hasn't got a bunny. WHo might she boil? A piglet? Henwy?
Jack??
Then there is Shula's glib assurance to Lily that there are many
members of the family to look after Lizzie so she can go back to uni.
Where were they all while Lizzie was getting to breakdown point? And
hand-holding is not actually all that is required. A new Geraldine is
needed. Lily is doing that job now and Lizzie's. And asking Kenton for
advice on hiring seems odd. Why would he know? What would he ever
know?
I hope the spoilers about Justin taking sides in the Neil/Hannah
dispute at the pig unit do not mean he takes her side. She is a
nasty piece of work. She tried to stir Johnny to be miffed about being
used at Bridge Farm too. I did hope Natasha would go for him to show
Horrible Hannah and Tom that Johnny is not to be scorned. Or maybe go
for Jazzer for the same reason. But at least if she really goes for
Tom permanently it will annoy Hannah. I hope she leaves Ambridge soon.
Actually how about if she has the sausage hiding with Tom again once
or twice and THEN decides Jazzer is nicer? I would so love that.

I wouldn’t put it past her to cajole Tom into playing Hide the Sausage and
then let Natasha know, in an attempt to break them up.

I wasn't clear. I meant Natasha to sausage again with Tom and then
then decide to move on to Jazzer. I am sure Hannah will let Natasha
know she has sausaged with Tom. Or do something nasty, anyway.

department that Panto-Chaucer is an acceptable mini-sabbatical.

Geraldine was working excessive hours; I don't understand how Lily can
cover for her and for Elizabeth.

Not too long ago a friend asked me to look in garden centres around here
for wood chips for her garden.

None of the garden centres near to her had any in stock.

I tried four centres without success and asked in the last one if they
were expecting stock.

The answer was that they had stopped selling it because all the
squirrels collected the chips for their own use!!

Tom may be onto a loser. Literally.

for wood chips for her garden.
None of the garden centres near to her had any in stock.

The answer was that they had stopped selling it because all the
squirrels collected the chips for their own use!!

We've actually got quite a bit of chippings. We've got a sort of black
cover over the front and half the back garden to deter weeds and then
it is covered iwth the chippings to look nice. When I wanted some
plants B said make holes in the black cover so I did and planted the
plants last spring. All except one plant was completely eaten or cut
off by someone or something and the weeds began to grow in the holes.
That one plant had flowers bravely all summer and still has one. I
keep thinking how the front garden would have looked if the rest had
not been eaten/cut.

I put slate chippings on my weed fabric (which had survived quite well for
a few years without them). I keep finding bits of slate on the path and the
stepping stones by the raspberries. We don't have turnstones so I'm blaming
the blackbirds.

don't know) for the campus flowerbeds. It did look very nice.

It did however make the campus smell like a brewery, as you might

I have mostly pebbles - 1-4 inches, at a guess - over my anti-weed
fabric. Weeds do seed (in the dirt that accumulates among the pebbles),
but in most cases are easy to remove as their roots aren't anything
substantial. They also included (what _I_ call) marigolds, which I liked
as they looked cheerful and I didn't have to do _anything_ with them
(well, I did dead-head them occasionally); they haven't been _quite_ as
nice this year, but last year - well, http://255soft.uk/marigold/ (I
have posted this before). You can see the pebbles there too.

When I was at university they installed a new cricket pitch.

Going past it the evening before the inaugural match, I was impressed by
the lovely green, pristine pitch.

It rained that night and next morning the pitch was a sea of white.
Absolutely unplayable.

In future they will be more aware of how they source their compost :-(

Exactly what it is would depend upon at which stage in the process it
was obtained. There is, for instance, quite a lot of -erme- "brewery
residue" deposited on the pavements outside some of our pubs after heavy
drinking sessions.
