Discussion:
Nextbook Flexx 11 Android-x86 7.1-r1 (Nougat-x86)

Is there any reason to believe that this version will work any better with
the components on my machine (Nextbook Flexx 11) than the most recent
release candidate? Specifically, the sound, microphone, power button,
camera, screen rotation detection and screen casting do not currently work
with Android-x86 7.1-rc2 (Nougat-x86). Are there updated mods in this
release for my device?

Thanks!
Shawn

Thanks for the reply! This unit has too much to re-install for that. Thanks

It's better to try yourself.
But don't expect too much.
The kernel is almost the same.
(only minor updates and security fixes)

No change in live mode, still the same components not functioning. Ah well,
I'll likely update to r1 in the next few days just for the security
updates.

Thanks for the hard work on this!

Side note: The only USB creator that worked to make this live usb was
Rufus. None of the others made the drive viewable from the boot menu.
Likely to do with this machines 32 bit UEFI

You can try the live mode first.
No need to install.

Could you elaborate on "the others"? What other tools (running under what
O/Ses) did you try, and find that they created non-bootable USBs?

This could be useful information for other people facing similar scenarios.

Thanks,

Antony.

Sure! I tried Win32 Disk Imager, Unetbootin, Universal USB Installer, Yumi
and something call ISO to USB all under Windows 10. They all created the
Live USB but none would boot on that system or even be recognized by the
boot manager. Rufus has an option to set the partition scheme. "GPT
Partition scheme of UEFI" works.

First of all THANK YOU for all the work you've done to get hardware like
mine working! I found a thread where you said to copy bytcrrt5640.state
from Phoenix OS 2.5.9 iso and three scripts that you wrote to bring the
sound up. Great! I'm about to try it. When I get bytcrrt5640.state, where
do I put it to make it work? Will this work with 7.1 rc2 or do I need to
install 7.1 r1?

First of all THANK YOU for all the work you've done to get hardware
like mine working! I found a thread where you said to copy
bytcrrt5640.state from Phoenix OS 2.5.9 iso and three scripts that you
wrote to bring the sound up. Great! I'm about to try it. When I get
bytcrrt5640.state, where do I put it to make it work? Will this work with
7.1 rc2 or do I need to install 7.1 r1?

Is there any reason to believe that this version will work any
better with the components on my machine (Nextbook Flexx 11) than the most
recent release candidate? Specifically, the sound, microphone, power
button, camera, screen rotation detection and screen casting do not
currently work with Android-x86 7.1-rc2 (Nougat-x86). Are there updated
mods in this release for my device?
Thanks!

It works. I couldn't get the one from the Phoenix OS copied. It wouldn't

Is there any reason to believe that this version will work
any better with the components on my machine (Nextbook Flexx 11) than the
most recent release candidate? Specifically, the sound, microphone, power
button, camera, screen rotation detection and screen casting do not
currently work with Android-x86 7.1-rc2 (Nougat-x86). Are there updated
mods in this release for my device?
Thanks!

First of all THANK YOU for all the work you've done to
get hardware like mine working!

Is there any reason to believe that this version will
work any better with the components on my machine (Nextbook Flexx 11) than
the most recent release candidate? Specifically, the sound, microphone,
power button, camera, screen rotation detection and screen casting do not
currently work with Android-x86 7.1-rc2 (Nougat-x86). Are there updated
mods in this release for my device?
Thanks!

If I could bother you with one more thing, the sound works now after your
help, but it's very quiet and the mic doesn't pick up well. On my Linux
systems with Alsa I just run sudo alsamixer from the CLI and set it up.
While I can find plenty of apps to boost speaker volume, none of them have
any adjustments for the mic. I'm guessing it has to do with alsa_amixer but
I'm not all that sure what to do. Any help?

First of all THANK YOU for all the work you've done to
get hardware like mine working!

Is there any reason to believe that this version
will work any better with the components on my machine (Nextbook Flexx 11)
than the most recent release candidate? Specifically, the sound,
microphone, power button, camera, screen rotation detection and screen
casting do not currently work with Android-x86 7.1-rc2 (Nougat-x86). Are
there updated mods in this release for my device?

Any help?

If I could bother you with one more thing, the sound works now after
your help, but it's very quiet and the mic doesn't pick up well. On my
Linux systems with Alsa I just run sudo alsamixer from the CLI and set it
up. While I can find plenty of apps to boost speaker volume, none of them
have any adjustments for the mic. I'm guessing it has to do with
alsa_amixer but I'm not all that sure what to do. Any help?

Is there any reason to believe that this version
will work any better with the components on my machine (Nextbook Flexx 11)
than the most recent release candidate? Specifically, the sound,

there updated mods in this release for my device?
Thanks!

First of all THANK YOU for all the work you've
done to get hardware like mine working! I found a thread where you said to
copy bytcrrt5640.state from Phoenix OS 2.5.9 iso and three scripts that you
wrote to bring the sound up. Great! I'm about to try it. When I get
bytcrrt5640.state, where do I put it to make it work? Will this work with
7.1 rc2 or do I need to install 7.1 r1?

Is there any reason to believe that this
version will work any better with the components on my machine (Nextbook
Flexx 11) than the most recent release candidate? Specifically, the sound,
microphone, power button, camera, screen rotation detection and screen
casting do not currently work with Android-x86 7.1-rc2 (Nougat-x86). Are
there updated mods in this release for my device?
Thanks!

If I could bother you with one more thing, the sound works now
after your help, but it's very quiet and the mic doesn't pick up well. On
my Linux systems with Alsa I just run sudo alsamixer from the CLI and set
it up. While I can find plenty of apps to boost speaker volume, none of
them have any adjustments for the mic. I'm guessing it has to do with
alsa_amixer but I'm not all that sure what to do. Any help?
