Grand Fifth Annual World Goa Day

MELBOURNE, AUG 25. Suffused in a mix of love and nostalgia the Goans in
Melbourne with the families and friends rocked, up at the Kingston City
Hall, Moorabbin to present their 5th annual World Goa Day.

The day is celebrated in commemoration of the inclusion of Konkani language
in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution by both houses of Parliament
in 1992.

The Kingston City Hall was packed with many Goans and their mainstream
Australian friends. There were guests from Goan Overseas Association, Sydney
and people from Adelaide, Brisbane and Dubai.

Mr. Rob Hudson, Member of Parliament, Victoria was in attendance for the
entire evening.

A Goan cultural group presented a "Harvest Dance" which was choreographed by
Mrs. Lidia Martins of Goa fame. The young Goans that took part in the dance
group did a splendid job to the tumultaneous applause of a house full
audience. In addition to this dance, there was a dance presented by the
mainstream Australians from City Dance Group which was enjoyed by all. The
night was full of enjoyment with live music and a cuisine that catered to
everybody's pallet. Many prizes were given away that night.

The Melgoans have been organizing this event since the year 2003 with a
resounding success. During this tenure they have gained a large base of
raving friends.
