She painted Henry Conley
She painted Bob Dylan
But she never painted me.

The "she" who forms the poem's subject is never identified. OTOH, Henry Conley, an aging garage band guitar player who no one outside of Will's hometown has ever heard of, is identified.

Thanks for the critique, Pendragon, and as I predicted a few days before posting this poem:

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt.arts.poetry.comments/XZk3jKDdmS0/RWUd1F-8AAAJ

Of course, this one fits well in the "work of art" theme for this week.

I had some real issues on such a short poem this week, whether to go on longer, with more details, whether or not to use real names, and so on.

In the end, I opted to post the short poem just as written, and so far I'm keeping it that way... I expect the critique to be harsh, but...

"Them's the breaks."

;)

I find that call must be made on a poem-by-poem basis, of course.
