personally I think 55 is kind of slow... I'd prefer a BIG suv/gas guzzler
tax -- maybe make the suvs gas up with a special pump nozzle on a $5 per
gallon tank... or restrict them to the right-hand land of the freeways
only...
Along with some real committment to fuel cell development. The $87 billion
that Kerry voted for/and against (long since disappeared) could have funded
some real progress in SOMETHING...

it's funny though -- I thought the "party of life" would want to reduce
carnage on the freeways...
I guess funding the oil companies is higher on their confusing priority list
than saving lives.

I think the best way to punish those who drive gas guzzlers is to base
penalties for moving violations on the listed vehicle weight. If doing
80 in a 60 in a 2000 pound car gets you a $400 fine, then the same
crime in a 6000 pound suburban should be say $2000 and DL suspension
for a month.

Reduced road speeds slow the delivery of freight, thereby increasing freight
charges. This results in an inflationary
impact on prices. Higher prices hurt the working man.
