USB disk problems - Sun Blade 150

I have an Ultra 60 which has a Belkin USB/firewire PCI card in it. I
have an external drive enclosure and I can see the drives. read/write
etc. No problems.

Now I have an Blade 150 and I plug this same card into it and doing
an /usr/bin/rmformat hangs. Will sit there over night if I let it. If
I take the USB cable and plug it into any of the standard USB ports
(Not the Belkin card) and
rmformat says the following:

It's only when I plug my USB 2.0 external drive into *any* USB port
(Belkin or blade 150 USB ports) on the blade 150 that seems to cause
this problem.

SunOS beech 5.10 Generic_120011-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-100

It's the latest version of Solaris I believe.

Any guidance appreciated.

Another question, out of curiosity, are the USB ports on a Blade 150
USB 1.1 or 2.0?

The Belkin card is model number: F5U508. It is a 'supported' card.

I'd bet a penny the 150's usb port isn't negiotiating the usb 2 device
down properly. If theres a free pci slot, add another belkin or equiv
card to the 150 and try that. I tried some usb external hard disks on
my Blade 2k, they mounted but were <very> slow because of the
motherboard usb 1.whatever.

Have you tried to shut down vold first, then dowing a
rmformat -l?

What about /var/adm/messages? The external drive should be
logged as new USB device.

Really? I dont know the specs of the Belkin card, but the Addonics
I have needs a 66 MHz slot as I recall. Not even sure it fits in
the 33's. And the Ultra 60 has one 66 MHz slot so...
One of doa's problems is believing that 120011-14 is the latest
kernel release.... It was released Sep/12/07

get to work severeal years ago. I have two: a 5 port USB 2.0
card, and a USB 2.0/Firewire combo card.

get to work severeal years ago. I have two: a 5 port USB 2.0
card, and a USB 2.0/Firewire combo card.

I've got a combo card and notice Solaris 10 update 4 disables the
support of USB 2.0, but there is a note of how it can be enabled. Not
sure exactly what the risks are, but there are notes in /var/adm/messages

Doesn't really matter, Belkin packages the NEC usb chip on their boards
the same as everyone else does, which is why the board works in Solaris.
My issue is with their switches and UPS's...

I think this card needed to be reseated as after moving it around into
the various PCI slots, all seems to be fine now. Although the blade
150 would not boot with the Belkin card in the top PCI slot, it works
fine in the bottom 2 PCI slots.
