Rajastani or Kashmiri). Lot of people have questioned me and even my colleagues
whether it is our traditional dress and culture of Goa which gives a cheap image
about us, am sure the photographer and the tourism director are non-Goans,
otherwise they would have not publish this wrong picture, it is a big insult to
the Goans.

There are people from diffrent states who want to tarnish the image of Goa and
to promote their own states and this happens beacuse of lack of interest from
our Ministers, I appeal to all our Goans to protest to this kind of things about
Goa.

I am going to take up this matter whith the Goa Tourism as well as the Tourism
Minister and the India Tourism Office in Dubai and if it is possible I will scan
and put it on the goa-net, also if I can have the mailing address of Fredrick as
I want to mail one copy for him, cause he will be in a better position to answer
that.

Very well noted and explained,I for one wouldn't know
whether you are based in Abu dhabi(UAE)and how did you
come across this picture, which is not the question
here but the main concern is what are the goenkars in
abu Dhabi doing , hasn't it caught their eye.
Shall be grateful if it could be scanned and let all
the goenkars know wherever they are, how goa the
negative picture about goans will ruin Goa and Goans
one day. Hope Goa is not the Golden Goose.

Secondly when you mention about the ministers showing
lack of interest , I feel the onus is on goans first
to show interest and ensure that negative publicity
about goa is stopped and as regards the minister is
concerned he should be made answerable to this so
called advert.

The claim that a picture of rajasthani women on an
article about Goa somehow debases Goa, its culture and
its people is pure nonesense which is probably laced
with a tinge of xenophobia.

The Anjuna flea market (which has a lot of vendors
from Rajasthan, Kashmir etc) has become an integral
part of Goa's touristic landscape. It is a great place
to hang out and buy artifacts from all over India.

I also find is laugable that people from "other
states" are trying to tarnish the image of Goa. I'm
sorry, but it is comments like those made by Ivor that
debase Goa's open and friendly culture. An insult to
Goans indeed.

rajasthani and kashmiri etc, vendors being in goa,
does not automatically make them an integral part of
Goa's touristic landscape. Goan people and Goan
vendors are enough to promote Goa overseas.

No doubt we are friendly, and because of this too

No insults to Kashmiris or rajasthanis, but its better

Folks,

It would appear that an article in an Abu Dhabi (UAE) Airport magazine
(duty-free catalogue?) has upset a few people, who, as far as one can tell,
have not seen the publication. Evidently, the picture of "a non-Goan lady
(either Rajastani or Kashmiri)" "gives a cheap image about us," and " is
a big insult to the Goans"

My questions are:

1. Do published pictures of Goans in UAE give a cheap image of the local
population and insult them?

2. Pictures of foreign tourists and hippies in Goa are commonly published.
Are they acceptable?

3. What mode of dress would the critics prefer to be shown?

There is much nonsense being written regarding this issue and it does not
bear repeating.

Cheers,

Eddie,

You have a good point. We are not only inconsistent but hypocritical. If a white tourist was in
the magazine we would not hear of these "insults". Often we complain about immigrants coming to
Goa while living as immigrants in the Gulf, Europe, North America, etc.

Last time I checked, Goa does have the largest
concentration of bars in India. I have also witnessed
far more episodes of drunkardness amongst Goans than
within the average Indian population. Whether my
cursory observations are statistically significant, I
cant say. BTW, can Vivek give us a list of recent
Bollywood movies (say inthe last 10 years) that
allegedly depict Goans as drunks? If this allegation
against Bollywood is true, then should they not be
congratulated for correctly depicting a unique (but
undesirable) feature of Goa?

Back to the issue below - I did not state that the
rajasthanis etc are an integral part of Goa. However,
the Anjuna flea market is an important venue on Goa's
touristic map. Whether it is full of Rajasthanies,
Kashmiries or Martians is immaterial. Was the article
about the Anjuna flea market in general or did it
claim that the Rajasthanies in the flea market were
Goans? There is a pretty big difference between the
two. If it is the former, then your prejudice is
pretty clear. To me, use of language that pictures of
these women "cheapens" Goan culture is a clear tip off
of this attitude. Today, we have some hindu
extremists (sh*t sena, RSS etc), that use the same
kind of language in their quest to preserve India's
"pure" hindu culture. I'm sure Vivek and Ivor do not
wish to be associated with this lot.

The alleged picture of the Rajastani dress woman in the Ad for Goa is off
the top; but I would not say it is an insult to Goans. The woman or any
other persons depicted should have had some Goan Costumes and or
contemporary styles of dress; this should have been in the main, with the
Rajastani shown as one of other Indians also visiting in Goa.
Imagine Rajastani Tour Ad showing Goan woman and man in suit and tie! they
would have revolted surely. Keep it up, Goans; we must fight this backdoor
intrusion into our culture which is Indian subculture but very distinct
indeed! I would think typical: Goan in dhoti and western jacket; or suit and
tie; and woman in Kapod and or sari and or dress/ blouse/ skirt etc. these
can all be typically Goan, but not the Rajastani.

St Marlon talks about drunks and Bollywood! In my time in Bombay not Mumbai,
I have had the chance to 'tell off' some of these Bollywood producers; that
they are wrongly depicting not Goan per se, but a Christian as drunk and
happy go lucky, as in Amar Akbar Anthony.; also that they are depicting the
drunk as a genuine remorse and rightly aggressive; anstead of using the
power of this media to show the evil side of drunkenness and how the better
way to go would be to drink responsibly and socially.

My motto which I practice: I like to enjoy my drink; but I will not allow
the drink to 'enjoy me'. Never!

Secondly when you mention about the ministers showing
lack of interest , I feel the onus is on goans first

concerned he should be made answerable to this so

The claim that a picture of rajasthani women on an
article about Goa somehow debases Goa, its culture and
its people is pure nonesense which is probably laced
with a tinge of xenophobia.

The Anjuna flea market (which has a lot of vendors
from Rajasthan, Kashmir etc) has become an integral
part of Goa's touristic landscape. It is a great place
to hang out and buy artifacts from all over India.

I also find is laugable that people from "other

sorry, but it is comments like those made by Ivor that
debase Goa's open and friendly culture. An insult to
Goans indeed.

Eddie,

You have a good point. We are not only inconsistent but hypocritical. If a white tourist was in
the magazine we would not hear of these "insults". Often we complain about immigrants coming to
Goa while living as immigrants in the Gulf, Europe, North America, etc.

George
Post by Eddie Fernandes
Folks,
It would appear that an article in an Abu Dhabi (UAE) Airport magazine
(duty-free catalogue?) has upset a few people, who, as far as one can tell,
have not seen the publication. Evidently, the picture of "a non-Goan lady
(either Rajastani or Kashmiri)" "gives a cheap image about us," and " is
a big insult to the Goans"
Cheers,
Eddie Fernandes

Never!

Eddie,

You have a good point. We are not only inconsistent but hypocritical. If a white tourist was in
the magazine we would not hear of these "insults". Often we complain about immigrants coming to
Goa while living as immigrants in the Gulf, Europe, North America, etc.

Cheers,
Eddie Fernandes

Never!

The claim that a picture of rajasthani women on an

An insult to
Goans indeed.

rajasthani and kashmiri etc, vendors being in goa,
does not automatically make them an integral part of

vendors are enough to promote Goa overseas.

No doubt we are friendly, and because of this too

Folks,
It would appear that an article in an Abu Dhabi (UAE) Airport magazine
(duty-free catalogue?) has upset a few people, who, as far as one can tell,
have not seen the publication. Evidently, the picture of "a non-Goan lady
(either Rajastani or Kashmiri)" "gives a cheap image about us," and " is
a big insult to the Goans"
Cheers,
Eddie Fernandes

Never!

Never!

An insult to
Goans indeed.

rajasthani and kashmiri etc, vendors being in goa,

Eddie,

You have a good point. We are not only inconsistent but hypocritical. If a white tourist was in
the magazine we would not hear of these "insults". Often we complain about immigrants coming to
Goa while living as immigrants in the Gulf, Europe, North America, etc.

Folks,
It would appear that an article in an Abu Dhabi (UAE) Airport magazine
(duty-free catalogue?) has upset a few people, who, as far as one can tell,
have not seen the publication. Evidently, the picture of "a non-Goan lady
(either Rajastani or Kashmiri)" "gives a cheap image about us," and " is

What other groups do, say extremists as mentioned by
Mr. Marlon to the extent of preserving thier pure
culture is upto them, each community has a different
way of preserving things, what is food for one may be
poison for other. The other extremists are unique in
their own way be it good or bad and we are unique in
our way. There is nothing wrong to be associated with
groups as long as your path is right.

Nothing cheapens goan culture, as it has always been
supreme and will always remain , when goan culture
cheapens is when Mr. Marlon thinks it in a cheap way,
here we are talking in terms of Insult to Goans , an
advert has caught the eye of a goan in Abu Dhabi and
he felt it is wrong in the interest of Goans, he has
not committed any crime by creating an awareness on
this advert, we should be in praise for him atleast
there is a watchdog for us goans on such issues though
a petty one but can be a bigger one next time.

Mr. Marlon thanks for your note but there was no need
to go to the levelof extremists etc.... if only you
had to praise Ivor and your help to this issue would
make a big difference. If you think of preserving goan
culture stretch your hand to help Goa in whichever way
you think and then the Goan culture will be preserved
by itself.

Dear Vivek,

Do correct me if I am wrong but I do not think it has been established if
the item is an advert or a feature article or a promotion. If it is an
advert, who has sponsored it?

No one is questioning your right of commenting on the issue. Far from it,
I invited you to comment further by asking you three questions. So please
let us have your responses.

Dear Vivek,

Do correct me if I am wrong but I do not think it has been established if
the item is an advert or a feature article or a promotion. If it is an
advert, who has sponsored it?

No one is questioning your right of commenting on the issue. Far from it,
I invited you to comment further by asking you three questions. So please
let us have your responses.

It would appear that an article in an Abu Dhabi
(UAE) Airport magazine
(duty-free catalogue?) has upset a few people, who,
as far as one can tell,
have not seen the publication. Evidently, the
picture of "a non-Goan lady

image about us," and " is
a big insult to the Goans"
1. Do published pictures of Goans in UAE give a
cheap image of the local
population and insult them?
2. Pictures of foreign tourists and hippies in Goa
are commonly published.
Are they acceptable?
3. What mode of dress would the critics prefer to be

There is much nonsense being written regarding this

It is interesting that Nasci, Ivor et al who live as
immigrants and migrants outside India, choose to
engage in questionable attacks against migrants and
their "cheap culture".

Vivek in his comments below even seems to rationlize
the methods used by exremists like the sh*t sena when
he says "each community has a different way of
preserving things, what is food for one maybe poison
for other". I'm sorry Vivek, but comments like these
are an insult to Goans. We do not believe in ethnic
cleansing.

It looks like some people, in the blind hatred of
non-goans who live in Goa, have chosen to jump the gun
about an article that happened to show Rajasthanies
selling their wares in the Anjuna flea market. Nasci
incorrectly states that the picture was an advert for
Goa, when in fact it was simply one of many pictures
embedded in an article on Anjuna beach and other
places in Goa. As others have asked, please show us
any thing in the article that suggested that the
Rajasthanies were in fact Goans. If you can't then,
you really need to go back and evaluate your attitudes
towards people's of other cultures and religions.

The alleged picture of the Rajastani dress woman in
the Ad for Goa is off
the top; but I would not say it is an insult to
Goans. The woman or any
other persons depicted should have had some Goan
Costumes and or
contemporary styles of dress; this should have been
in the main, with the
Rajastani shown as one of other Indians also
visiting in Goa.
What other groups do, say extremists as mentioned by

Hey Marlon, and other readers,

I Nasci have never attacked migrants and their cheap culture; never. I have
always appreciated your 'sense of humour' too. A thousand flowers should
bloom; else it would be a boring world indeed!

What I am resenting in some of my submissions is: the sheer audacity of some
people and groups and political parties included in "imposing their view and
philosophy of life" on others. These types do not show any tolerence and
this is most prevalent in India. There has to be respect and tolerence for
all cultures and ways of life; as long as these do not infringe on the
fundamental and normal rights of others.

Who the hell are these people to impose 'cow slaughter ban'' when the whole
world revels in eating 'Beef'. Beef has been the best meat and tastiest by
far for most people. If some groups and individuals do not want that; they
are free to do as they like.

But since India is and has been for a long time now, a multi cultural and
secular Country; it is incumbent on everyone specially politicians and the
like to respect and tolerate all; so much so there should be special
servings of pork, beef, mutton and or chicken, snake etc for all to revel in
according to their likes, at New Delhi banqets for Indians and foreign
guests alike. China does it so also Malaysia, Japan etc. And these are all
Asian Countries. No wonder China is one big leap ahead in 'gourmet food.
sports and even technology. What a shame. Hindutva wallahs: Stop imposing
these "idiosyncracies' on others. The sooner the better.

Hoping all Indians learn to think 'Modern' and not drown in the past 'Abyss'
they are just coming out of. Then the country will make real progress in all
faculties by leaps and bounds.
I am proud of being a Goan Indian in genes type and culture.

Marlon,

There is no hatred towards non-goans,neither did i for
one mention about any article, tillnow I am still
mentioning about the photograph which should have had
a goan pictured in a goan attire. You should not judge
others in a negative way without understanding themain
subject matter of the other party. Once again I say
strongly we should not bring into this topic the words
like hindu, .... extremists etc.. and if any group has
a way of preserving their culture in their way good
for them. Marlon sometimes you go to the extremes of
confusing others with your words and the main subject
matter is neglected. I stick to what I say, how you
imagine and accept it is hardluck for you. I will
definetely go and evaluate my attitude towards other
culture and thanks for your friendly advice, but you
require a total panel beating of your vocablury, you
seem to mix custard, pudding, meat, vegetable etc. etc.
and the main igredients are forgotten. Marlon I have
been reading your letters some are good while others
liek this one fails to impress. I give credit where it
is due.

Dear Mr. Eddie Fernandes,

Mr. Ivor did fwd.a pic. of a rajasthani , there is no
article attached to it (let me be frank with you)and
who sponsored it is difficult for me to find out,
neither did i mention about the article I still
emphasise on the photograph, why a rajasthani why not
a Goan, how about a Goan picture in Bihar/rajasthan ?
Just a thought.

About your responses.

1.Pictures of Goans in UAE would depend how the Goans
in UAE accept it and adjust with it,I would not know
if anytime in the middleast these countries did
require pictures of Goans to promote themselves for
various reasons.if someone can explain the said
advert, then the problem can be sorted out in a simple
way.

2. Hippies did cause a lot damage to goa and our
beaches, how , is known to all but after a lot of
resistance by the goans it was stopped as the word did
go round that goan beaches those days due to influx of
hippies in big numbers was a den of drugs and
nudism. As for foreign tourists publishing their photos
for promotion of tourism or promoting their attire are
two different subjects.

3. I cannot speak for others, every occassion has a
dress code, like in an african continent the africans
would not want to promote their attire and tourism on
a foreign face, as that attire suits them better, and
their proud of it and so are the foreigneirs, who like
keep a foreign face wearing the african costume and on
the other side the african face with african costume
and advertise, see which one sells fast.

Mr. Eddie should you have any other query for me
please let me know.

Dear Vivek,

So you have no reason to believe that the photograph was an advertisement.
You do not know the context of it but are prepared to sit in judgment. That
is your right. Thanks for the offer to answer my questions so I repeat the
ones you so ungraciously ducked:

1. Since you have no idea of UAE conditions, do published pictures of Goans
in Uganda give a cheap image of the local population and insult them?

2. Pictures of foreign tourists in Goa are commonly published to promote
Goa. Are such photos acceptable?

3. The question remains - what type of attire do you think should represent
Goa?

4. When did you last visit Goa? Are you aware that the Rajastani and
Kashmiri women are a feature of the Anjuna and Mapusa markets and are very
popular subjects for photographs?

5. Does your presence in Uganda demean and insult the local people?

Cheers,

Eddie

Dear Eddie,

I do have a reason to believe that a pic was published
of a rajasthani/kashmiri with the background picture
of one of the GOAN beach, for a promotional cause as
it would just not appear the sake of it, there must be
a reason for it, it with that implication I still
stand by what I say, never sat on a judgment chair
only expressed my opinion which i am still expressing.

No reason to duck your questions as they are quiet
transparent to answer .

Answers:=

1. Never seen a goan picture in Uganda on the same
context as that of Abu Dhabi hence, premature to reply
when time comes it can be replied.

2. Since these letter is addressed to me personally,
replying to your personally, the issue right from
inception was of the dress and not of person/s so
please clarify when you say foreign tourist's dress or
the Foreign tourist's as a group. As you rightly
stressed on the dress in your third and fourth
question.

3.The goan attire, which one if you ask me, shall be
much obliged if you can mention to me which are the
goan attires and I shall express my opinion of them
and not a judgement.

4. The kashmiris and rajasthanis women and their
attire are features of the so called markets and
subject to popular photographs as mentioned by you ,
but cannot be features of Goan Tourism at large
neither popular photographs for goa's billboards nor
advertisements, they just happen to be shopping items
since their attire are on sale in shops on those
beaches. As when did i last go to goa, i happen to go
there everyyear and even if i do not fly down through
various sources of information I do get toknow.

5. Lastly eddie again you have got it wrong, there has
been a mention that because of xyz community presence
in goa, goa has become cheap or it is an insult to
goans so why mince words and cofuse further, stick to
the subject matter.

Thanks eddie for your interest in my letter, look
forward for some more questions.

Nice day.

Just jumping in . . .

re: "that a pic was published of a rajasthani/kashmiri with the background

seems to have outraged some on this forum.

Would the same sense of outrage be expressed if there was a white woman
shown on the beach?

Just curious.

Hi Tim,

You are way off the mark! Rajastanis and Kasmiris are different from Goan
dress culture, in the first place. As for the foreign women and or men of
European origin; they visit Rajastan, Goa and Kasmir too, except for now it
is a 'terrorist area'. So your hypothetical question makes no sense. You are
just trying to find fault and argue without thinking! I think this line of
talk should stop; and instead all our energies be directed to " Lonely
Planet" tourist guide. which is showing so much 'Ignorance; Thaks Gabe for
the enlightenment, in this affair.

Wanting to be Goans is a dream of many. Especially
those from the sub continent. We have sikhs,
kashmiris, mallus, andras, bengalis, biharis, bangla
deshis, pakistanis, kannadigas, all wanting to be
Goans.

This effect has now taken toll on some design and
jewellery companies such as Cartier the makers of
famous time pieces. Their latest diamond and gem stone
necklace is called Delices de Goa.

===============================================================

No, I am not going to ask Bernardo any questions since his prejudices are
not only proven but he is proud of them.

However, I am rather amused to read his claim that Cartiers dream of a Goan
affinity. Jingoism gone mad! From the current (5 Dec.) Goan Voice UK
newsletter at http://www.goanvoice.org.uk/newsletter/2003-48/

3 Dec. South China Morning Post (Hong Kong). When Cartier decided to launch
a new range of jewellery, they "looked to Goa, a small Indian state south of
Mumbai, which has been treasured for many years by travellers, poets and
artists for its cultural diversity and natural splendour." They have called
the new collection Delices de Goa. "The stones used in Delices de Goa are
reminiscent of the colours of the sea, the sky and all the naturalness in
Goa."

The article is illustrated with examples of the gems but they are not shown
on the wed edition of the newspaper. However, they are described as:

A Cartier Delices de Goa ring in pink gold set with voluptuous amethyst and
turquoise spheres and enhanced either by a dash of diamonds or pink gold;
and a generous band of yellow gold topped with a cluster of coral and
amethyst spheres (each ring $ 105,000). A Cartier double-row necklace
threaded with amethysts, coral pearls and drop diamonds ($ 238,000).

Business Times (Singapore) had a photograph of an item from the range (a
necklace) shown at
http://business-times.asia1.com.sg/story/0,4567,100799,00.html The
collection has just been launched and we can expect to see many references
to it.

Turning to a different story, Bernardo may interpret the creation of a Goan
township in Bombay Film city as another example of envy. Read the account
of this at http://www.indiafm.com/broadband/03/dec/0412msk/index.shtml and
if you select the appropriate link at that site, you can see an eleven
minutes video clip of the set and scenes from the shoot.

Dear Mr. Eddie,

We are on two different continents, I am to believe if
we goans get united in GOA the entire political system
and the goan infrastructure can be changed, this
discussion of the outfit is very petty to waste time
on, the very words if mentioned to me if it was
something to do with the goan unemployment, influx of
outsiders in goa,the rampant corruption, the crimes,
and so many issues affecting the lives of the common
goans then i would have my hatts off to you,can you do
something in the goan employment exchange, is there a
way you can raise you concern about the rate of crimes
in goa? there could be and are many such burning
topics affecting the goan life. Time to put this
energy on something constructive for Goa and Goans,I
hope we i am not being a hyprocrite or prejudice this
time too.

A belated happy feast.

To All Goan ? Netters

Much has been talked about the Article I wrote, first of all I would like to
thank to those who supported me and Secondly I would like to repeat it again
for those who were not clear about it.

This is a feature about Goa (titled Discover Goa) which has appeared in Abu
Dhabi Airport Magazine and distributed all over Abu Dhabi along with the
local daily and also kept at the Airport for free distribution, along with
the article there is a picture of Anjuna beach and a Rajastani lady, nothing
is mentioned about the pictures. I called up the Travel agency who had put
up that article and they directed me towards Indian Tourism in Dubai. When I
checked with the Indian Tourism office in Dubai about the picture they told
me one was about a famous Goan beach and the other of a Goan lady, when I
asked more about it they said it was received from India and have no idea.
Am not against any one or any state but my point is when we have our own
people why we have picture of other people as Goan lady, next time they will
put up picture of slums as traditional Goan houses, for those who would like
to have a look at this picture can check on this site

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/lpi_slides/htmshell/indian_subcontinent/goa/sl-3.htm

There was another incident in few months? back at he Travel Mart in Dubai,
Goa had its own pavilion and when some Goans visited it they were surprised
to see some girls dancing to the tune of Vengaboys music and dressed in mini
skirt and short blouses, when questioned why the traditional dekhnis and
Mandoos were not played, Mr. Martin Joseph (Managing Director of Freedom
holidays Goa) said that ? if you play the Goan folk music no one will visit
Goa, at least with this type of Music you can attract business.?

Well my fellow Goan ? Netters for some this may be a small thing because
some of them are settled at the other end of the World and any thing about
Goa doesn?t matter much other than critics, but for Goans who are really
concerned about Goa this is a big Issue, I had put up this matter on Goa-net
to create awareness among Goans and get support.

Whatever the Critics may be I have already taken up this matter and written
to some to the people concerned and will try an get an explanation and will
also take up the issue personally when I go down to Goa in Jan 2004

Anything can happen if non-Goans lead the Goan Tourism delegation and
non-Goan happens to be the Tourism Director of Goa.

VIVA GOEANKAR

Tim,

No one is blaming the rajasthanis/kashmiris, from the
inception Mr. Ivor had stated very clearly that he is
going to take this issue up, which he has done it very
well now with the authorities and has explained it
too. You must read it tim, you seem to have missed
something what you are mentioning and what is being
discussed seem not to match properly. We are not being
emotional about survival of the said R & k, but
without having much to say kindly read the articles of
all those writers who have supported in a true Goan
spirit.

Blame it on administration ...... Well, gone should be
and are the days where a goan is regarded just a
susegad, be it the government/administration, every
goan should exercise his/her right to demand an
explanation and make Goan administration accountable
for such publicity about Goan tourism and any such
allied promo's or for any wrong done on Goa. One just
cannot say BLAME IT ON ADMINISTRATION and close the
topic, and that is what Mr. Ivor was doing, he said he
is going to find out the source of such information
and we all should appreciate and thank him for what he
did and is doing.

We too like peace, and all those who contributed be it
for or against are all peaceloving people, but stand
up and speak out please it is only this way that we
can remain united and work for the betterment of Goa
and Goans.

This effect has now taken toll on some design and jewellery companies such as
Cartier the makers of famous time pieces. Their latest diamond and gem stone
necklace is called Delices de Goa.
For those challenged by the French language:

D?lices de Goa means.......Delight of Goa.

A picture of jewellery from that line can be found on page 16 of this report @

http://www.richemont.com/investorinfo/reports/november03/results2003.pdf

And then there is the Women's Goa Designer Boot @

http://shoeshoppes.com/shoescom/footwear.cfm/shoes/5001888/

And thankfully the French didn't get offended or insulted when Wendell Rodricks
rocked Paris in the summer of 2002.

Mr. Eddie,

Please ask a Kenyan (African) the difference between a
Goan and a bharati and he will tell you that
immediately.

Besides it is good to read that bharat after rotting
Goa is creating a square in the memory of Goa.

PS.: The comments about poets in SCMP is hipocrisy
innit? The bharatis tried to blow the statue of Camoes?

If you think of preserving goan
culture stretch your hand to help Goa in whichever way
you think and then the Goan culture will be preserved
by itself.

undesirable) feature of Goa?
Back to the issue below - I did not state that the

However,
the Anjuna flea market is an important venue on
Goa's

Kashmiries or Martians is immaterial. Was the

about the Anjuna flea market in general or did it
claim that the Rajasthanies in the flea market were
Goans? There is a pretty big difference between the
two. If it is the former, then your prejudice is
pretty clear. To me, use of language that pictures

off
of this attitude. Today, we have some hindu
extremists (sh*t sena, RSS etc), that use the same
kind of language in their quest to preserve India's
"pure" hindu culture. I'm sure Vivek and Ivor do not
wish to be associated with this lot.

It would appear that an article in an Abu Dhabi
(UAE) Airport magazine
(duty-free catalogue?) has upset a few people, who,
as far as one can tell,
have not seen the publication. Evidently, the
picture of "a non-Goan lady
(either Rajastani or Kashmiri)" "gives a cheap
image about us," and " is
a big insult to the Goans"
1. Do published pictures of Goans in UAE give a
cheap image of the local
population and insult them?
2. Pictures of foreign tourists and hippies in Goa
are commonly published.
Are they acceptable?
3. What mode of dress would the critics prefer to be
shown?
There is much nonsense being written regarding this
issue and it does not
bear repeating.

What other groups do, say extremists as mentioned by
Mr. Marlon to the extent of preserving thier pure
culture is upto them, each community has a different
way of preserving things, what is food for one may
be
poison for other. The other extremists are unique in
their own way be it good or bad and we are unique in
our way. There is nothing wrong to be associated
with
groups as long as your path is right.
Nothing cheapens goan culture, as it has always been
supreme and will always remain , when goan culture
cheapens is when Mr. Marlon thinks it in a cheap
way,
here we are talking in terms of Insult to Goans
