the notre-dame forest was constructed from timbers and woodwork.

groupama are donating 1300 oaks from a forest they own

pinault lmdh group...luxury goods including st laurant...100 million €
the arnault family (owners of the group louis vuitton hennessy) have
pledged €200m.

total, petrolchemical : €100 million

bettancourt family (oreal) has pledged €200m.

the renovation 150 million €

after stealing it from the church of rome:
the french state had only been able to fund part of the renovation,
spending approximately €2m per year currently, and up to €4m in the
next 10 years

with the responsible capitalists offering this sort of support i think
it would be better to set the fund up for the whole of the church
estates stolen at the revolution

Wouldn't the 'restorers' be liable, and insured against such things? :-)

The Notre-Dame de Paris is a big tourist attraction. The French should
pour money into restoring Notre Dame.

I hope Quasimoto got out OK.

Notre Dame Is Burning. A Digital Archive Could Hold the Key to Restoring It.
https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/289565-notre-dame-is-burning-a-digital-archive-could-hold-the-key-to-restoring-it

"Back in 2015, we discussed the work of Dr. Andrew Tallon, an art
historian and historical modeler. Tallon used laser-mounted tripods
within the cathedral to build a point cloud of information on every
surface and internal feature of the cathedral's interior. At the
time, his goal was to uncover clues about the building's construction
and renovation process that weren't preserved to the present day."

See video in article on Tallon's laser mapping.

Blame that on the NBC News.

Still, 21 hectares = 52 acres, so imagine a square 1,500 feet on a side,
filled with eco-kooks standing in the way of the chain saws.

BTW, 1,300 sounds rather paltry considering that at the end of the 18th
Century a single ship-of-the-line (https://tinyurl.com/yy3d7yh7) required
the wood from roughly 4,000 mature oaks for construction:
http://www.wou.edu/history/files/2015/08/Melby-Patrick.pdf

"Based on contemporary correspondence, parliamentary papers, and naval and
forestry reports from the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries,
[Robert G.] Albion hypothesized that the demand for ship timber stripped the
landscape of wooded resources. He argued that the procurement of good oak
for the construction and maintenance of English hulls was so critical that
its failure could reduce the strength of the Royal Navy as a whole and
hamper the operations of the admiralty."

I wouldn't worry about resources too much. Donors have already
pledged nearly a billion dollars US to rebuild the Notre Dame
Cathedral. As if the Roman Catholic Check couldn't pay the full
cost out of petty cash.

There is good reason to NOT unless the system as a whole is set up so
the rich do so together. Otherwise they are putting themselves at a
competitive disadvantage. You suggest a good argument for higher taxes
on the wealthy.

Yellow vest anger burns in France, fueled by Notre Dame fire

PARIS (AP) — French yellow vest protesters set fires Saturday along a
march through Paris to drive home their message to a government they
believe is ignoring the poor: that rebuilding the fire-ravaged Notre
Dame Cathedral isn’t the only problem France needs to solve.
...snip
Like the high-visibility vests the protesters wear, the scattered
small fires in Paris appeared to be a collective plea to French
President Emmanuel Macron’s government to “look at me — I need help
too!”
...snip
The protests marked the 23rd straight weekend of yellow vest actions
against Macron’s centrist government, which they see as favoring the
wealthy and big business. Protesters view themselves as standing up
for beleaguered French workers , students and retirees who have been
battered by high unemployment, high taxes and shrinking purchasing
power.
...snip
Many protesters were deeply saddened by the fire at a national
monument . But at the same time they are angry at the $1 billion in
donations for Notre Dame renovations that poured in from French
tycoons while their own economic demands remain largely unmet and they
struggle to make ends meet.

Bees Living on Notre Dame Cathedral Roof Survive Fire

The bees are housed on the first floor on a roof over the sacristy
beneath the famous rose window.

The beehives have been on the cathedral’s roof since 2013.

"Our bees of Notre Dame Cathedral are still alive," Nicolas Geant, the
beekeeper, wrote in a blog post, citing confirmation from the leaders
of the cathedral.
