Discussion:
Fed up with turd polishing, David Davis quits
(too old to reply)

One turd on Friday night, then another on Saturday, by Sunday David
Davis was disgusted by the whiff of ordure wafting from Number 10. He
couldn't go on. "One more turd and I'm gone!" he threatened.

Then the chief whip brought in another toilet bowl full and Davis
threw up all over his principles. Finally, he picked one out of the
mess of pottage and decided enough was enough. No one yet knows where
the toilet bowl went or who has taken over as turd monitor. By 9:00
a.m. we'll know. Shall it be Michael Gove? What about Boris Johnson?

Suffice to say that Brexit now looks like it's entered its terminal
phase.

I understand the government has just announced that the Department for
Exiting the EU is to be renamed as the Department for Remaining in the EU.

"It's the same Department", said Mrs May, "so nothing has changed except
its name. We're still honouring all of our manifesto commitments,
because we never said 'leave' was any different from 'remain'. The new
Minister in charge will be Anna Soubrey who will do her best to keep us
in the EU in accordance with the referendum result".

I would rather there was a change of heart on Brexit but to fair if lots
of those pro EU chose not to vote it's not the fault of the Brexiters.
One can't count the "I couldn't be bothered to vote ". For me it's
about what kind of Brexit do we want rather than no Brexit in terms of
democracy being respected.

There comes a time when you have to stop 'being fair', and instead be
realistic.

This isn't a football game - neither is it the kind of 'democracy' that
we want. When it comes to the future of our national and personal
prosperity, although we shouldn't go out of our way to unnecessarily
break the rules neither should we be bending over backwards (or,
probably more accurately, forwards!) to adhere to them to the absolute
letter.

Indeed - 52% of the voters decided that the EU isn't the kind of 'democracy'
that we want.

I'm glad you are finally being a bit more realistic.

When it comes to a largely uninformed and bigoted majority hell-bent on
wrecking the country with their 'might is right' mentality, I'm tempted
to say "Stuff the majority"!

All the more remarkable that there has never been a 'socialist
dictatorship' then.

Well the government seems terminally incapable of taking this forward, so if they can't agree let the people decide in a people's vote.

And if they decided again to leave, nothing will have changed, so the
government on your analysis would still be incapable of taking it
forward. It wouldn't help therefore to have another vote.

Indeed.

The problem we in fact have is that the Government can take it forward
but because of remainer objection are being prevented.

And I understand that some people hope a 2nd referendum will simply make
it all go away but they are deluded if they think a so called "soft
Brexit" or no Brexit at all is going to make leavers go away and stop
wanting what they voted for.

How it is going to be sorted out in the end - Parliament vs The People -
only time will tell.
