Texas law says that, while in the polling place, you can’t advocate for or
against “any candidate, measure, or political party.” Granted, anyone with a
“Don’t tread on me” button is probably a safe bet to be voting GOP this year —
the left doesn’t remember colonial history, after all — but one can’t make
assumptions. For instance, would it be fair to assume that a guy in a
hammer-and-sickle t-shirt will always and everywhere be voting Democrat?

Actually, maybe that’s a bad example.

Katrina Pierson, who sits on the steering committee of the Dallas Tea Party
and is also involved with the Garland Tea Party, told The Daily Caller that
“around 11 o’clock yesterday,” a Garland Tea Party member, reported that she was
told by an election official that she could not vote unless she removed her
button. A second election official, Pierson said, did not recognize the button
and did not understand why the other official was not permitting the woman to
vote.

According to Pierson, the woman refused to remove her button, saying it was
a violation of her first amendment rights, and called the sheriff’s office. The
sheriff passed the matter on to the Dallas County Election Department, which
failed to act.

The woman opted not to vote until she had done more research and figured out
whether or not the election official was allowed to do that. The Garland Tea
Party is currently conducting that investigation on her behalf…

Pierson says, “It’s not electioneering, it’s not a candidate, it’s not a
party affiliation.”

A question for the election lawyers out there: If a tea-party candidate ended up
on the ballot as an independent, would that change the calculus here? Would it
change if the tea party became an actual political party and nominated someone
but didn’t take the Gadsden flag as its official symbol? It’s unclear to me how
far electioneering law would allow assumptions about advocacy and voting
intentions to be drawn from symbols that aren’t formally linked to a party. If I
go down to the polls next month in a Reagan t-shirt, it’s pretty clear which way
I’m leaning — but is it so clear that polling officials could make me take it
off?

Actually, I think it’d be rip-roaring fun to suspend electioneering laws this
year if only in Nevada, just to see how far the Angle/Reid blood feud would go
with their supporters unleashed. Forget t-shirts and buttons; I’m picturing
nunchuks and brass knuckles emblazoned with the campaign logos. No survivors.

The Tea Party is not a political party... It endorses people who earn it. Peopel
who agree with our platform of smaller government, cutting taxes and less
spending. Currently it's mostly the Republican Party that supports that
agenda and so gets our support... But it's conditional... And they know it... If
people we help elect do not deliver... We will replace them at the next
election. Simple as that.

Yeah, that sure would be fun. Advocating violence always does to
someone hiding safely behind their keyboard.
You should have noted that I did not write that passage.  I quoted it and made
it clear that it was a such.  I do not advocate violence and even signed a
non-violence pledge as part of... Well nevermind...
Actually it wasn't clear where your quote ended and your
commentary began.

Texas law says that, while in the polling place, you can’t advocate for or
against “any candidate, measure, or political party.” Granted, anyone with a
“Don’t tread on me” button is probably a safe bet to be voting GOP
this year —
the left doesn’t remember colonial history, after all — but one can’t make
assumptions. For instance, would it be fair to assume that a guy in a
hammer-and-sickle t-shirt will always and everywhere be voting Democrat?
Actually, maybe that’s a bad example.
Katrina Pierson, who sits on the steering committee of the Dallas Tea Party
and is also involved with the Garland Tea Party, told The Daily Caller that
“around 11 o’clock yesterday,” a Garland Tea Party member, reported
that she was
told by an election official that she could not vote unless she removed her
button. A second election official, Pierson said, did not recognize the button
and did not understand why the other official was not permitting the woman to
vote.
According to Pierson, the woman refused to remove her button, saying it was
a violation of her first amendment rights, and called the sheriff’s
office. The
sheriff passed the matter on to the Dallas County Election Department, which
failed to act.
The woman opted not to vote until she had done more research and figured out
whether or not the election official was allowed to do that. The Garland Tea

I went to the Teaparty website Ray provided and found nothing right wing

Other than the fact they seem to want to give Liberals the boot.

Please Conway don't tell me you think I see phantom socialists everywhere? I
post all sorts of links to news articles to back up my every assertion... I am
probable the one person who backs up his assertions with facts and links more
than anyone else... You wouldn't believe the amount of stuff I read... I only
select maybe 10% to post about because I think it might be good for a
discussion/chat... Despite the fact that every now and again someone moans
that I post OT... Almost every post I ever make leads to a discussion between
people... I see myself as a news bringer... That is why I ask "What say you?"
at the end of almost every post... I really DO want to know what people think...
I listen to voices on the left as well as the right... I take it all in and
determine what is truth for me... etc... I'm rambling now... You get it...

What say you? :-)

I was intrigued by O'Hara's recent post that suggests any American opposed
to unrestrained illegal immigration is Racist.
As was recently pointed out, every nation on earth defends its borders by
putting in place some sort of immigration controls, even the EU.
(I'm sure that O'Hara's opinions are not based on the huge power base the
Dems are building by protecting , nay, encouraging illegals.)

I look for a host of dirty tricks as we near election day.
The Pubs are already hinting at rampant voter fraud in North Carolina.
The Dems are scrambling to lessen the impact of what's coming their way.
Are the Tea Parties projecting how many congressional seats they may win?
Betwixt me and thee, I think the time has come for a third party.
Dems and Pubs both have become far too complacent.
Neither seems really to care a flip for the wishes of their constituents.

For the most part, TPs are helping the GOP. The GOP may find
they have a tiger by the tail if the TP-backed candidates follow an
more independant course.

The one thing the GOP has had over the Dems (for the last 30-40
years...pretty much post-Watergate) is they've tended to be much more
cohesive. A larger % of Rep Congresscritters vote lock-step than their
Dem counterparts. I guess that's because the Dems tend to have a
broader constituency.

That being said, three parties have never worked for long under
our winner-take-all system. Historically, a viable third party has
either been absorbed by an existing party (which is what the GOP is
trying to do with the TPs) or has taken the place of a major party in
disarray (the last was when the GOP supplanted the Whigs during the
1850s) From the historical record, the GOP is more likely to absorb
the TPs....but you can never tell.

The true test of the strength of the TP movement will be when/if
they actually get some power. It's much easier to tap into
discontent....especially when the economy is in the toilet...than
actually have to lead.

No. For the most part, TPs are HURTING the GOP. They've already cost
them the Senate (by getting candidates too extreme to win in the
general election nominated).

True, but the Dems seem more likely to take their internal spats
onto the floor. Can you imagine a GOP Prez with the same majorities in
Congress not getting more of his agenda passed? I'm not saying Reps
don't fight among themselves, but they always seem to be more behind
the party line.

Earlier I stated Dems had a broader constituency....that's not
quite the right word...what I meant is Dems seem to have more
competing interest groups.
Perhaps because in Congress Liberal Republicans and Conservative Democrats

I think that's a direct result of so many districts being slam-
dunks one way or the other. If a candidate's toughest opposition is in
the primaries, you'll tend to get more left-leaning Dems and right-
leaning Reps. That's why the Senate seems a bit more middle-of-the-
road than the House....for all the Red and Blue state labels, all
states are really varying shades of purple so more centrist(or at
least closer to the center) types tend to get elected.

That's only because they never seem to actually have the majorities
that the Democrats got this time around. When was the last time
Republicans got a 60 vote super majority in the Senate, for example?

Whichever party has a large majority is where you see more of the
'internal spats'. Part of it is gamesmanship; they let votes they
don't need vote against the party line for political purposes with
their constituency. Part of it is that you don't get big majorities
without electing some moderates and they're less likely to go along
with the National extremists.

Not so much. Their interest groups do tend to be at several extremes,
though; blue collar unions vs teacher unions vs 'pity me' minorities.
Of course, the Republicans are divided between Wall Street, Main
Street, and religious loon, so it's the same number of factions.

I agree it's time for a third (and a fourth) political party, but the
Tea Party isn't really any of them, although it would perhaps do the
Republican Party some good if all the right wing loons departed. Of
course, it would also do the Democratic Party some good if all the
Left Wing loons departed.

The left are increasingly pathetic and paranoid. We see a day of sunshine for
the first time in 2 years on Nov 2nd and they see a terrible storm looming over
the horizon!
This is the calm before the storm... Just one day left!

Whereas for me:
Annie - Tomorrow - slightly changed.

The sun'll come out Tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow
There'll be sun!

Just thinkin' about Tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs,
And the sorrow 'Til there's none!

When I'm stuck a day
That's gray, And lonely,
I just stick out my chin
And Grin, And Say,
Oh!

The sun'll come out Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on 'Til tomorrow
Come what may!!

Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I love ya Tomorrow!
You're ONLY

A day

A way!

And the Tea Party Express goes rolling along!

There'd have been a lot more sun tomorrow if the Tea Party Express
hadn't gotten some folks nominated who simply can't win in the general
election. But for that the GOP might have taken the Senate tomorrow,
too. Not going to happen now, though.

Extremist fuckwits are why I'm making the deliberate decision, for the
first time in 38 years, to NOT vote. I don't want EITHER side to be
able to claim that they govern with my support and I refuse to vote
for someone who is going to go to Washington and I'll hate what they
do, PARTICULARLY if they keep all their promises.

Wrong, Ray. This is one of the stupider things you've said in a long
career of saying very stupid things. Just how is it that the fact
that the political system has offered me no one I want in office robs
me of the right to complain when one set of fuckwits or the other gets
the job?

It's voting that would rob me of that, since how could I complain when
whoever I voted for got the job and then proceeded to do just what
they've said they're going to do? I'm left with a choice between
Democrats who are ramming through things I don't want and Republicans
that are so far right I can't stand them. I don't want EITHER of
those proclaiming a 'mandate from the voters' and going off and doing
the sort of idiocy either one of them will do.

So just who should I vote for, Ray, given that I don't want EITHER
party doing what they claim they're going to do? If you want me to
vote so badly, give me a choice I can stomach. Until then, you can
just count me as another (generally) Republican voter lost because of
the Tea Party.

This is how I view it. The freedoms we enjoy are based on three
boxes; the ballot box, the soap box, and the cartridge box.

The two major political parties have essentially taken away the ballot
box. Because of their control of the money and the political process,
once they are both out of touch (as they are now) there is no power
left in the ballot box.

Partisan sniping, insult, and denigration have pretty much eliminated
the soap box. When anyone who doesn't toe the line of one of the two
competing major parties gets shouted down, use of the soap box as a
control is pretty much gone.

comparison in numbers with counted votes would be interesting to see.

Could still happen... It's a mighty tidal wave that's about to hit!
You're kidding yourself. Anyone who believes that the GOP can still
take the Senate is delusional. Your "mighty tidal wave" will be low
turnouts and general disgust. If not for your Tea Parties the GOP
might have had a chance to do so, but not now. Too many unelectable
candidates.

The Tea Party Express and Tea Party Patriots are the only force that can bring
about responsible change... YES WE CAN! AND WE WILL! RESTORE THIS COUNTRY!
Well, in that case I don't want to hear another word out of you complaining
about the state of the country or the political system or those in power...
Who gives a shite what you want?
Post by unknown
Because you can't be arsed to vote... You lose the right to gripe and moan...
End of...
Write-ins! (If they're allowed where you vote) Also, aren't there
any local races or issues on the ballot?
This is how I view it.  The freedoms we enjoy are based on three
boxes; the ballot box, the soap box, and the cartridge box.
The two major political parties have essentially taken away the ballot
box.  Because of their control of the money and the political process,
once they are both out of touch (as they are now) there is no power
left in the ballot box.
Partisan sniping, insult, and denigration have pretty much eliminated
the soap box.  When anyone who doesn't toe the line of one of the two
competing major parties gets shouted down, use of the soap box as a
control is pretty much gone.

I'd be in favour of an official registered abstainment on a ballot

because they are spoiled. Perhaps in simple protest by disgruntled

that's all right, Fred.

I am presently domiciled in the state of Maryland, but since I am away
from home, I filed absentee some time ago.

Maybe next time, while voting early, I'll also vote often (maybe I
should move to Chicago!), so they won't miss your vote.

Seriously, you aren't the only person who has decided not to vote
because of the dearth of viable candidates or the lack of issues worth
your time. I suspect that once the political parties (Repubs,
particularly) realize that a number of their current candidates
couldn't draw flies because of their extreme political beliefs, they
may start trying to find candidates that may have a legitimate chance
to win.

The next two years are going to be even worse. Most of the folks
getting knocked off are going to be moderate Democrats. The
extremists are usually in 'safe' districts (like Pelosi in San
Francisco). Meanwhile, those moderate Democrats are being replaced by
extremist conservatives like Ray.

This is the best thing that could have happened for Obama. Now he can
blame the obstructionists in the House when things don't get better.
Before he could only blame his own Party. Losing the House takes
Pelosi out of the limelight, so the Republicans won't be able to play
'Newt Gingerich' with her in 2012. Anything he REALLY doesn't want
the Senate can block and he doesn't have to veto anything, so his
hands look clean.

I keep hoping the Republican Party will wake up and realize that it
takes moderates to win, but I've pretty much given up on that. I
think they'll run an extremist for President (because of the outcome
this year in the House, forgetting that nominating extremists cost
them their chance at the Senate) and Obama will walk to another 4
years. The House will swing at least partly back towards the Dems, if
they don't regain control entirely.

Me, I think the smart thing to do is buy ammunition...

The Tea Party is NOT extremist...
Bullshit.

I refuse to vote for someone who is going to go to Washington and I'll hate what they
do, PARTICULARLY if they keep all their promises.
Well, in that case I don't want to hear another word out of you complaining
about the state of the country or the political system or those in power...
Fred, get off your lazy arse and vote! You whiney but unvoting lazy bastard!

Then I'll talk to you about the political situation for the future... It's not
like it's BIG surprise to you... Or are you that moronic that this election came
as a surprise!?

If your sill too lazy and ignorant to bother to vote, then talk to the blowing
wind... Because that is what your opinion is worth.. SFA!!

If you DO bother to vote... we'll talk... if not... well... we all know about
those lazy bastards that whine a lot but are too lazy to bother doing anything
about it, even when presented with a gold invitation!! Right, Fred?

While you consider finally getting off your arse and opening your trailer door!
"Dont' the trees look all pretty this time of year Y'all?"

Heres some electoral predictions for you to digest:

Evil Witch AKA Nancy Pelosi? BYE!
Soclialist enabler AKA Harry Reid? BYE!
Thus breaks the evil progressive trinity!!
YEAH!!!!!

Liberal/Progressive Control of the House? DONE! BYE!
Liberal/Progressive Rape of the country? STOPPED!!!

IN my home state of MA...
Banking Queen(*)... AKA Barney Frank: BYE!
DEVIL Patrick (166 thousand jobs lost under my watch while I raised taxes while
promising I'd cut them... yeah.. right... ) Patrick? BYE!

(*):

Country OVERALL:

Nobama's Progressive Agenda? DOA!! WE SLAM ON THE BRAKES (THANKS TEA PARTY)!

Taking control of the House... A given... 50-80 seats gain! (at least!)

Taking control of the senate... possible... we only need 10.. Current
predictions are 8... But this is a storm! 10 is the least we desire!

Putting Obama's Liberal Progressive agenda on FULL HOLD! A given! Obama had
his time... He lost... It's over... Now is a return to sanity! Conservatives
outnumber Libs 2 to 1 and of those we are twice as motivated as they are to do
anything (I blame the drug smoking liberals... Talk a lot but ask them to get a
job or do something constructive to advance a cause and your effed)

Reversing NObamacare: Wil take a bit of work (Nobama veto)... But eventually
will happen...

Extending "Bush tax cuts"... MUST happen! Otherwise the Dems fade into
history as the "once powerful party" we'll read about in history books...

These next 2 years are formative... Let's see what happens!

Progressiveism is DEAD! Will remain DEAD... The Democratic Party, totally
infected by such progressives are DEAD! Needs to purge itself... If it can! Get
back to what being a Liberal/Democrat actually means...

What say you Fred the Lazy Unvoting Friendly RINO?

What say you everyone else that have an IQ greater than your shoe size?

I'll simply point out that you snipped out my entire response to you
indicating just why I'm not voting. Pretty intellectually dishonest
of you, but I guess that's what one should expect from 'head up and
locked' ideologues.

Again, just who should I vote for? I don't want any of them and they
won't let me vote for "Throw them all out".

Then I'll talk to you about the political situation for the future...
So if I didn't vote you WON'T? Well, I didn't vote.

as a surprise!?
It's not a surprise at all. There's also nobody I want to vote for. I
don't want to send Democrats back so they can do more of the same and
I don't want to send some right wing fuckwit back so they can do all
the wrong things. So who do you suggest I vote for and just what do
you suggest I do when they win and go do exactly what I didn't want
them to do that led me to not want to vote for them in the first
place?

So go away and STFU. The silence from your direction would no doubt
be welcomed by many more than me.

You really don't get it, do you? It's not a matter of "bother to
vote". It's a deliberate decision not to. What "gold invitation" am
I being offered, you ignorant shite? The 'invitation' to vote for
people I don't want in office? Some 'gold' you got there.

Sorry, but I'm not a Tea Party adherent. That's the PROBLEM. If your

are.

Still there, too. Jesus, you're just delusional, aren't you?

And who cares, anyway? Any that lose will be replaced by people who
will be even worse. That's why I'm not voting. No candidates worth
electing.

And I'll ignore the fact that you're nuts.

Yeah, thanks, Tea Party. If not for you we could have taken control
of the Senate.

Taking control of the House... A given... 50-80 seats gain! (at least!)
Yep, but what will you be able to get done? Nothing, I hope, because
there are a bunch of folks with some REALLY bad ideas being sent up.

Taking control of the senate... possible... we only need 10.. Current

If you don't get what you desire will you move to Canada? Please?
Because you aren't going to get the Senate, largely because of Tea
Party darlings like O'Connell who just aren't competitive outside the
nut house. Republicans COULD have taken the Senate if not for you and
yours.

I see myself as a news bringer... That is why I ask "What say you?"
at the end of almost every post... I really DO want to know what people think...
I listen to voices on the left as well as the right... I take it all in and
determine what is truth for me... etc... I'm rambling now... You get it...
What say you? :-)
I say you're fooling yourself.

it was first used in the American Revolution and before the teabaggers
started using it
it was used by ultra-left revolutionaries in the 60s-70s.
now righwing extremists are using it.
I went to the Teaparty website Ray provided and found nothing right wing or
extreme in their agenda.
We have worked tirelessly to push out any racists that have been encountered...
We have been told to take pics of our rallies of anyone we suspect is either a
shoe size IQ racist moron or a plant by the progressives holding a deliberately
provocative sign... We're onto that game!

Other than the fact they seem to want to give Liberals the boot.
But then, some might consider that extreme.
The Teaparty folks seem to be much more Libertarian than destroyers of
Western Civilization.
And Libertarians, sir, are not Neocon knuckledraggers.
My knuckles are a good four feet off the ground.
Restoring Honor and Integetery to America! Supporting traditional family
values! Showing due respect to those fallen soldiers and wounded warriors that
put their lives on the line so that liberal morons could curse them back home
and never understand the sacrifice... Putting faith in God and not
Government...
