I deplore R3 becoming more amd more like R2, but last night it hit a new
R1-like low. Uchenna Ngwe talked over every record she played.

When, once, reference was made to a statesman almost universally
recognized as one of the villains of this century, in order to
induce him to a negative judgment, he replied: "My situation is

This is why we don’t bother with Jess Thingie on Saturdays at 12:30.

Does uk.media.radio.bbc-r3 still exist? I know ...r4 does (though it's
rather quiet), but have never dipped into -r3 (or 1, 2, 6, or
-world-service).

I share your deplore.

Yes. It is lifeless. I shall post my post to it and see if anyone bites.

When I had a tooth extraction at the minor surgery unit last Tuesday
the dentist had R3 playing. He uses it to calm people down.

Then there is the fact that the dentist requests you ‘open wide’ then fills
your oral cavity with clamps and other hardware - then asks a question
which could far better be answered were your mouth not full of hardware!

At one point, I suspected the dentist and his assistant were holding
hands in there.

I would suppose that different people react in different ways to the

Classic FM might be better (though the ad.s might irritate more than any
soothing); R3 can sometimes play things far from soothing. Though
possibly not in normal dentist opening hours (I'm thinking of things
I've heard around, I think it was, 23:45.)

Often at work I wish they'd pay me what I'm worth, but sometimes I'm glad they
don't. (BrritSki, in uk.media.radio.archers, on 2000-12-25.)

Is Maurice (or Jean-Michel) Jarre soothing?

Oh, hang on. Was it Classic FM? I was in a bit of a whirl by then and
also lots of small and painful injections all over my mouth were just
beginning to act.

R1-like low.  Uchenna Ngwe talked over every record she played.
Something else I don't understand. - Uchenna Ngwe has some associated
with The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. Knowing nothing
of it, I looked at its website where I read it "is London's leading
music industry education provider and has been developing and delivering
contemporary music education for over 30 years – longer than any other
music school in the UK." "Contemporary" means of the presence, doesn't
it? If so, then that claim would seem to be false.

Not sure I see why: it can have been presenting such "education" for 30
years; doesn't mean it's giving out now what it was when it started.
