These were on gransnet. I qualified today for laundry-changing and
hanging on line a bit too high as SOMEONE thought it got in the way
less.

I met a friend for tea on Sunday who I hadn't seen for about 2 years.
They are a good bit younger and got much taller! Has anyone else
noticed their young acquaintances getting taller? More than the 2
inches I shrunk, I mean.

D#2 and family have been staying nearby this week. I haven't seen any of
them since late December 2019. My granddaughters have grown a great deal
since then, but has they are 10 and 12 this is to be expected. I don't
think I have shrunk in height, though I did lose half a stone when I was
ill.

If asked on a form I record my height as 1.9m which it once was. Truth is that
it's now (at 68) dropped to 1.85m, so to maintain my traget BMI I need to lose
4kg.

Curvature or shrinkage? (I. e. are you recording your _length_?)
[Personal question, so of course feel free not to answer.]

I can never remember mine (I _think_ it's 1.72?), but as I generally
carry a tape-measure, it's not a problem.

Standing upright: I stand in a door frame, find a book that just
fills the space between head and top of frame and calculate
height from this.

Nevertheless, it inspired me to follow up the idea. I'm shorter than
you, Tony, and in this old house the doors are probably taller and the
frames higher and I reckon that I would need four volumes of Groves
Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1948 edition) to fill the gap. But
I suspect that with that weight of books on my bonce I'd probably be
pushed down enough to slip the Supplementary Volume in there as well.

I wonder if I could stand on that pile of books instead? (Don't try
that at home, Nick - Ed.)

Which leads me to wonder what volumes of significance (both in terms of
thickness and personal meaning) other umrats would use for this process.

Misner, Thorne and Wheeler: Gravitation (The Phone Book)
Abramowitz and Stegun: Handbook of Mathematical Functions
Chemical Rubber Company: Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (The Rubber Book)

Try again: I measure my height by standing against the jamb of
a door frame and measuring the gap between my head and top of
frame. So no curvature.

Does your door frame ever need calibrating?
