The Idol Pad has revealed the Top 10+1 (everybody knew the judges would use their one
save now). We should learn tomorrow night which of the 11 listed the producers told
judges to save. I doubt it matters much since the one saved probably has less than a
snowball's chances in hell of making it to Top 5.

It's so weird that the finale is in two weeks when they just selected
the top 10... er, 11. This season was going surprisingly well
considering the social isolation protocol. Idol and ABC did a
wonderful job of handling it. And now they are going to go from a top
11 to the winner in two weeks? It's not enough time to hear everybody
sing in different situations and genres. Oh, well,

I didn't have a standout favorite this season although I was
disappointed that the OTHER Julia (with the afro) didn't make it
through.

I voted for four of them with the AI app:
1. Julia Gargano was outstanding with her take on "New York State Of
Mind."
2. Just Sam. She is just so darn likeable, no phoniness at all about
her. And the girl can SANG!
3. Dillon James. I shouldn't like him because I know he's a ringer
who's won international model/songwriting competitions and has starred
in a movie opposite Dolly Parton plus released a previous album. But
despite that I DO like him. His smile and personality is infections
and he has a goo voice, although I wasn't particularly fond of his
changing up McCartney's "Yesterday." Dillon's tattoos are
distracting. I can understand a small personal tattoo, but I'll never
understand why anyone would want to disfigure himself to that extent.
4. Francisco Martin wasn't at his best but I still voted for him
based on past performances; he has great potential.

I took the poll on MJ's blog; you can only choose one whom you thought
won the night. I picked Julia Garano and to my surprise she is far
and away #1 in the survey results.

Oh, by the way... I'm wondering how Makayla Phillips, the judges'
pick, managed to get cosmetic surgery during the quarantine. I guess
money can buy a lot of things. Her look completely changed; her
eyebrows are in a different place and her lips are so botoxed that
she looks like she's eating two hot dog sideways. Meow.

No real choice. It's either that, or shitcan the season halfway with no real indication of whether it might be three months or two years before you could try to continue.

Our votes were similar except I voted for 5 and for Jonny West instead of Dillon.

Arthur Gunn
Francisco Martin
Jonny West
Julia Gargano
Just Sam

I'd like to see Just Sam come out #1 in the finale, whatever winning this season may
or may not mean.

I feel the same. It would be nice to see a talented true amateur win.
I think that last time that really happened was with Fantasia. And
Carrie to lesser extent.

BTW, my sister is a fan of Johnny West too. She's an old dog who's
learning new tricks, and at 71 has her first smart phone. I helped
her set up the Idol app so she could vote, and she voted just for
Johnny. IMO he's OK, but to me he's a Caleb Lee Hutchinson clone and
I get them conflated in my mind. They look alike, sound alike and
even talk alike.

I like Arthur Gunn too, although I wasn't crazy about his reggae
version of a John Denver song. But at least it was something
different.

At any rate, there really are a lot of talented singers this season
(ringers or not), and I wish we had more time to hear them each sing a
greater variety of songs. Surprisingly, I don't mind the way they
have it setup with the contestants singing at home. They all seem to
be handling it well. Although I do feel sorry for Just Sam; the
others are all with family or friends and she's isolated in a motel
room by herself. I'm sure the show is taking care of her though.

BTW, did you see the poll on MJ's blog for who was the favorite in the
top 10 Sunday night? Internet polls are notoriously skewed I know;
but I voted for Julia Gargano in the poll and then was a bit surprised
to see the results... she was far and away the winner of MJ's poll

Yes. She did a fantastic job. Rated on last Sunday night performances, Julia
Gargano came in 1st at 22.16% over 2nd place Francisco Martin's 13.66%. I couldn't
help noticing that the top 5 in MJ's poll were the same 5 I voted for. :)
