I'm curious as to what is your favorite SNL of all time and why.

Overall, I think you'll have a hard time beating the Steve Martin/Blues
Brothers episode which was aired this past Sunday morning. It seemed
first class from beginning to end. Much of the show has ended up on
"Best Of" compilations during the years.

Let the discussion begin...

Any episode hosted by Buck Henry.. It would be a toss up between
Henry/The Band (definitely the best musical guest ever) and Henry/
Andrew Gold (the Lord & Lady Douchebag episode).

Obviously your keyboard is missing a few letters because I KNOW you
really meant to say Talking Heads there.

Dude,
The Talking Heads were pretty great, but sorry, not even close to The Band.
Get a grip! I remember seeing that show live when I was about 11 or 12. I
will never forget it.

Point granted, although I knew I should have stayed away from
that "best" designation.. One could make a case for them, or
Zappa, or two dozen others. Each great in their own way. But
The Band's appearance was more timing than anything else..
This SNL episode was shot just a week before The Last Waltz
was filmed.

So? What is your point? They still sounded great. They went out on top of
their game. The first time anyway.

Steve Martin / Blues Brothers would be one of my all time faves because
it has The WIld and Crazy Guys, King Tut, and Dancing in the Dark. It
even has an ignorant slut! Great show. Not to mention Theodoric of
Yoric.

I have the video clip of Choppin Broccoli, just to see Sigourney and Phil's
faces as they ponder the art...

Michael McKean (1984).

Great moments-
-The Folksmen reunite and sing "Old Joe's Place".
-First Draft Theatre - 12 Angry Men.
-The monologue ("Hey Hamlet! Where's Squiggy?")

Steve Martin/The Blues Brothers is by far my all-time favorite. Jim
Carrey/Soundgarden is up there, too.

I agree with Steve Martin/Blues Bros. Practically everything from it has
turned up in a "Best Of".

Another show that is almost equal in quality and has just as many
sketches that are now called "classics" is the Tom Hanks/Aerosmith show
from 90 or 91. You've got "Hey! Tony Randall!" the Global Warming Xmas,
Wayne's World, and so on.
Unless I'm jumbling together more than one show from the same basic
"Era". But I remember it being way up there.

I also echo the choice of the Buck Henry shows, any of them. He was
truly the "8th cast member" in a way no other host has been since.

Eddie Murphy comes back to host:
White Like me.
Black History Minute
Alfalfa kills buckwheat
The guy who can walk up the stairs during the war
Eddie pulls down the michael jackson doll and says, "Just what I
suspected!

Steve Martin/Blue Brothers is in the top 5
I'd also say Chevy Chase/Billy Joel is one of my favorite
The Episode where Christopher Reeve hosted was great also:
Jackie Rodgers Junior Jack pot wad

My favourite episode is the one with Steve Martin and
The Blues Brothers. I can't think of one sketch was NOT
excellent. And all music was excellent too.

from memory:
Intro: Paul Shafer introduces Blues Bros (Hey Bartender?)
Theodoric of York (the barber)
3 psychics (Martin, Aykroyd and Curtain)
King Tut
Trough 'n Brew
Wild and Crazy Guys (w/Morris and Radner+Newman as foxes)
Lisa Loopner and Todd (w/Martin as preppy science guy)
Martin and Radner dancing
Curtain and Belushi in bed telling each other they cheated.

I saw this episode live back in the late 70's but forgot
that so many of the best sketches of all time are in
that one show until I saw it in a rerun recently. It
definitely had one of the biggest "talk about it on Monday
at high school" things.
