What Did You Watch? 2018-06-11 (Monday)

I watched:

THE AVENGERS:
"Quick-Quick Slow Death". A dead man and his doppleganger lead Steed
and Emma to infiltrate a dance school. Steed and Emma's investigation
reveals it to be a front for a spy infiltration scheme, wherein lonely,
anonymous bachelors are replaced with enemy agents.

THE AVENGERS:
"The Danger Makers". Steed investigates a general who was killed
playing "chicken" on a motorcycle.

CHARLIE'S ANGELS:
"The Seance". A rich old lady has lost three jewels in three robberies.
Actually, she stole them herself under a trance and doesn't remember
doing it. Madam Dorian (Doris), her spiritual advisor would seem to be
a prime suspect. Kelly poses as the daughter of a rich oil tychoon, and
is hypnotized by Madam Dorian's assistant, Terrance, who discovers
Kelly was afraid of being stuffed in a closet as a child without her
stuffed doll Lillibett by Beamish, an abusive matron at the orphanage.
When Terrance asks her (under hypnosis) about her father, she says she
is an orphan and blows her and Jill's cover. Terrence tells Kelly that
Jill is really Beemish in disguise and that she should kill her. Madam
Dorian thinks she really *can* talk to the spirits. Terrance is the
*real* bad guy and ends up killing Madam Dorian.

STUPIDGIRL:
"Make It Reign". Supergirl learns the true depth of Serena's nefarious
plans for Earth. Supergirl, Mon-El and Alura must devise a plan to stop
her before Serena gets to Earth. J'onn prepares to say goodbye to his
father. Irony of ironies, on tonight's Stoopidgirl, the day with saved
by a gun with Kryptonite bullets. Kinda. Alexa Luther shot the three
Kryptonian witches with Kryptonite bullets but it barely slowed them
down. And Alexa Luther keeps Kryptonite because?

MIKE TYSON MYSTERIES:
"The Pigeon Has Come to Roost". Pigeon's past finally catches up with
him.

WKRP IN CINCINNATI:
"Baby, It's Cold Inside". When the station's furnace goes off, Momma
Carlson warms up with a few drinks, and then warms up to the staff.

What did you watch?

What did you watch?
Still running errands and home organizing, so not much...:

Into the Badlands (recorded) - "Dragonfly's Last Dance" (ep. #3.7). The
Widow finally runs out her string, as a portion of her troops (incl.
Arthur and Wren (the Butterfly who lost her leg due to Sunny) from
earlier season #3 episodes) stage a coup, and imprison the Widow (and
Gaius Chau). Luckily for her, Lydia remains uncaptured, and Moon is
"off-site" (and he tracks down Tilda), so the Widow's loyalists can
plot to free here. Meanwhile, Sunny has to deal with the River King,
who gives Sunny a lead, but who may not be telling Sunny everything.
And then there's politics with Pilgrim and his crew, but I generally
don't care.

Fist Fight (HBO OnDemand) - This was pretty silly, but it was R-rated
comedy, and it was I needed last night. Also, the promos implied that
Jillian Bell was the "sicko" among the characters, but amusingly it was
Christina Hendricks' French teacher character who's the real sick puppy
(unfortunately, a key scene with her was cut, and was only shown among
the "outtakes" over the end-credits... Anyway, this was far from
perfect, but I thought it was amusing enough. P.S. Hey! The Carver
twins appear together again!!

Recorded for later: Absolutely nuthin' - Mondays are *awful* right now. :(
--
"Three light sabers? Is that overkill? Or just the right amount
of "kill"?" - M-OC, "A Perilous Rescue" (ep. #2.9), LSW:TFA (08-10-2017)

This movie really could have used a cameo from or at least an
acknowledgement of "Three O'Clock High."

Recorded for later: Absolutely nuthin' - Mondays are *awful* right now.  :(
I watched:

Supergirl - "Make It Reign"- Some stuff happened. None of it was good.
I'm pretty sure no one has noticed, or it would have been mentioned by
now, but the show seems to have taken a slight dip in quality lately. :-P

Westworld - "Kiksuya" - Already covered.

Billions - "Elmsley Count" - Really good season finale that did *not* go
the way I thought it would. I loved it when the closed captions
actually said, "evil laugh."

Genesis of the Daleks (theatrical) The 1975 episode of Doctor Who got a
theatrical release to promote the upcoming blu-ray release of Tom
Baker's first season as the Doctor. In this episode the Time Lords send
the Doctor (Tom Baker) and his two companions to Skaro to destroy the
Daleks before they are created or alter their creation making them less
of a galactic threat. Although this is an episode from 1975 the
ramifications of it are still being felt today in modern Who. This was
the first salvo in what would later become the Time War between the
Daleks and the Time Lords. This was a really good episode with some
surprisingly good production values for a 1975 British sci fi show.
Although some plot elements like the ease in which the Doctor and his
companions travel between the two warring factions was beyond
ridiculous. That being said, it's still a really good episode. My only
real gripe is, for an event that was meant to showcase the new print,
Fathom once again streamed in really low quality. I suspect the blu-ray
will look much better.

What did you watch?
Fear the Walking Dead: season 4 midseason finale
Big mistake that pisses me off and makes me wonder whether I should
continue with the series. Reddit is flaming.
And after last week's episode, I took Westworld off my DVR. I'm tired
of
Post by David Barnett
watching a show that's showing us how cool it is rather than telling a
story.
That was my take on this week's Westworld too. I couldn't believe all
the
professional critics and many fans calling this the best episode in the
show's history. It was beautifully shot but c'mon. Get on with the
story already.

One comment I laughed about though. Someone said this was Westworld's
"Jack's tattoo" episode from LOST.

Like that show, I get the distinct impression that Westworld is just
another
show they're making up as they go along with no clear end in sight.

What did you watch?
WESTWORLD
I guess somebody thought it would be clever to do (almost) an entire
episode you had to read using subtitles. They were wrong. But at least
everything that happened was either pointless or stupid.
I read some recaps after watching this and saw a lot of reviewers and fans
calling it the best Westworld ever.
Wow. I would have said 'worst'

I suppose it was nice to look at but
Post by David Barnett
since I'm more interested in moving the plot along, I thought it fell flat.
And since Thandee was apparently listening to it all, there was no
reason it shouldn't have been translated, and every reason it should.
Post by David Barnett
It was just a huge filler episode that didn't tell me anything I didn't
already know.
I think all we learned (and I'm not entirely sure we learned this) is
that the Indians took to scalping themselves and carving the map into
the undersides of their scalps and putting them back on (a practice that
seems to have spread to non indians as well) which the control room has
*never* noticed.

Also we now know that the hosts can run for a decade without recharging
or maintenance of any kind (and we're taking original flavor hosts with
all those rods and pistons in their bellys) and nobody keeps a log of
upgrades.

During the scene when the technicians were retrieving the female robot
and wondering how she got so far out of range I immediately had two
thoughts. First, aren't they always monitoring the location of every
robot and would immediately see two of them off script. And second,
what about the *horse* they were leaving out in the middle of nowhere.
Either it's a real horse (doubtful) or a robot horse and in either case
just leaving it there seemed dumb.

Yeah, I have some serious questions about the animals. Assuming they're
all dumb robots, and haven't suddenly become human sentient, then there
should really be a kill switch, and shutting them down would help quell
the uprising.

And can the robot horses go decades without maintenance?

What are these things eating? Or do they? Don't they at least have to
eat so they can crap?

What did you watch?
In case my Saturday post was not received, &
apologies if it was,I watched

HINTERLAND: 2x3 (Netflix)
The one thing for me that distinguishes this
show from other cop shows is
the deeply furrowed brow of the detective.
Sometimes it looks like a maze.
Infrequently, it is a smooth forehead &
sometimes there are only a few
wrinkles. It is all very distracting.
Grade B

Andrew Denton's Interview: Gene Simmons;
Jennifer Burge
The second guest is an embalmer.
Both were entertaining.

INSTINCT: 1x4 I Heart New York
Central Park murder.
Features Dylan's estranged FBI father.
Grade B+

delete

INSTINCT: 1x4 I Heart New York
Central Park murder.
Features Dylan's estranged FBI father.
Grade B+

And on Sunday I watched:
Agatha Christie's The Witness for the
Prosecution (Part 2)
Not as boring as Part One.
Grade C+

ENDEAVOUR: Harvest (Season final)
2000 year old body, Joan Thursday, & pagan
rites
Our ABC is doing a rare thing, that is is
proceeding to air season 5, 2 seasons
altogether.
Grade B

SHAKESPEARE and HATHAWAY: 1x1 O Brave New
World (2018)
Lu(ella) Shakespeare & Frank Hathaway
Detective Agency,
Grade B+

HINTERLAND: 2x4; 2x5; 3x1
Discussed above.

Finally, to answer the question,
on Monday June 11 I watched

BLINDSPOT: Mum's the Word
I like the parts where Roman is featured,
Grade B+

HiNTERLAND: 3x2; 3x3
Only one more episode to go.

WESTWORLD: Kiksuya
I hated this episode except for the tiny Ford
airing.

Even the lovely Odette is barely enough to keep me interested these

gonna survive the finale next week. Elsewhere, the writers seem to have
borrowed heavily from Shakespeare and Star Trek canon if the few
glimpses that I saw of other plotlines were any indication. Also, we
met a redshirt friend of Winn's who, of course, didn't survive the hour.

What did you watch?
SUPERGIRL / 3x22 / Make It Reign
[Supergirl learns the true depth of Serena¹s nefarious plans for Earth.
Supergirl, Mon-El and Alura must devise a plan to stop her before Serena
gets to Earth. J¹onn prepares to say goodbye to his father.]
Even the lovely Odette is barely enough to keep me interested these
days. In any case, she's still having issues, so who knows if she's
gonna survive the finale next week. Elsewhere, the writers seem to have
borrowed heavily from Shakespeare and Star Trek canon if the few
glimpses that I saw of other plotlines were any indication. Also, we
met a redshirt friend of Winn's who, of course, didn't survive the hour.
Grade: Meh
So glad I bailed.
You had a second chance on Wednesday...
I wouldn't wish that on Ian.

I'm pretty sure that my grades for this show would drop a lot if I were
to actually watch more than five minutes or so of any given episode.
