It's only the beginning of the decline of the dollar.

The US treasury has reached it's debt ceiling and needs
to get authorization from congress to borrow more money.

The Bush administration is using every trick in the book to
delay this action until after the election.

Bush is running a war without PAYING for it.

Wars are not free.
Wars cost blood.
Wars cost money.

Bush is in denial and fails as a leader in both cases.

The current deficit to GDP in the US is lower than Japan and every EU
country. It's lower than it was under Ronal Reagan. No the future looks

matter.

I agree totally.

With great sadness, I watch the Euro exchange rate every day. I must
perfrom this painful ritual because I regularly fly between the US and
the EU.

Now that the election is getting down to the wire and (amazingly) Bush
has a chance to be (finally!) elected, the dollar is dropping to new
lows -- $1.25 to the Euro, from 80 cents three years ago, before we
let him run up the deficit with this insane Iraqi thing.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, I meet throughout Europe simpy can't
believe that we would even consider Bush, after his abysmal record.

And, for well over a year, now, many have expressed fears that Bush
and his cohorts will dummy up some more "Intel" to justify going into
Iran - but they don't think the Brits will be our slavish lapdog on
that little jaunt.

We claim to have the best education system in the world, but I suppose
that "best in the world" label only applies to our colleges, which are
filled with foreign students... only a fourth of Americans actually
finish a four year degree, so I guess an ignorant citizenry is to
expected... and to be exploited.

A high Canadian dollar has had it's impact on tourism to Canada from the USA, and it effects
tourism from Canada to the USA just the same when it's too low.

Canadians want a strong dollar, but not too strong as in equal or higher to the $US because it
doesn't help exports. On the other hand, produce at the supermarket this winter won't be
effected as much by the higher cost of fuel to transport it because of a stronger dollar.

It's a give-take.

like, i note b/c you didn't type http:// the url for tinyurl.com doesn't

work if i control-click on it, whaeras all the other links show as they

Even IF i should have to type the link in, Cmd. C works to copy the text,

tinyurl.com is great for haxors who want to make browsers do loops, going to
either a series of pre-determined pages, or a bunch of randomly generated
pages, before either reaching the destination, or winding up in limbo-
depending upon the intent of the supplier of the link.
Yes, this means that tinyurl is, like the rest of the internet, as subject

I've got a sophisticated news reader, and even long URL's don't cut it.

My Newsreader demands that I type as a "bottom poster", instead of being an dolt and posting up
top like OE forces people to do.

Using Tiny or the other one just helps. Expression is important, so is slang; but if no one
gets what you're talking about, you might as well be saying nothing.

Convenience with links is a good way to make people understand your point.

My French and German is fluent, but I abhor people who come into can.politics and try to make a

to get an idea across, English is the language to express.

it irritates to no end, those who post in other than english thinking that

No, I am afraid that Right Wing Zealot is correct. Foreign exchange
rates are primarily affected by interest rates and by the national
debt of the countries. Given that the US prime rate is now higher
than the EU prime, and heading higher, the dollar should be getting
stronger.

But the dollar keeps getting weaker. Most of the Bush tax cuts (aka,
"vote purchases") went to the wealthy, who just banked the cash
instead of "jump-starting" the economy -- (as in how many BMWs can you
drive?). The Iraq war is also ballooning is sapping the economy and
ballooning the deficit, with no (graceful) end in sight.

On the upside, a weaker dollar should make US goods more attractive to
foreign markets, because we appear much cheaper to the foreign
currency holders, but the trade deficit keeps widening...

Not a pretty picture, but one that was painted by one, and only one,
administration -- the Cheney/Rumsfeld presidency.

Easy to figure Kerry would normally win but Bush is traipsing around like a

He, he. It took 8 years of hard work for Clinton to clean up the 12 years of
Reagan / Bush jackoff and 3 years for Bush the Golfer to fubar.
Easy to figure Kerry would normally win but Bush is traipsing around like a
ballerina in heat, screaching his paranoia to the masses.
Unfortunately, Joe Sixpack's attention span usually lasts as long as the
quarters in the peep show.
Kerry's planning on spending an additional 2.3 trillion dollars
annually. He estimates his tax increases will raise about 800 billion.
The current US deficit is 468 billion so if (big if here) Kerry is
elected the US deficit will clime to ~1.6 trillion a year. The current
US national debt is around 7 trillion dollars. Imagine piling on another
trillion and a half a year!!!

Read what he says and not the fantasy world of George Bush.

Kerry has Robert Rubin on his side.

Who cares ? Isn't that like Tony Soprano borrowing a few bucks ?? It's not
like he's ever gonna have to pay it back....WHO does the government owe the
money to ?? Bond holders....just come out with a law and delay payment or
appropriate people's bank accounts.

GDP does not represent the whole picture of an economy. It's nice to see that "Pussy Girly

Quite true, my market is mainly the USA and we have taken a 20% hit
since the dollar started dropping. We have been holding the line on
prices for the past year, but will be very soon raising our prices to
reflect that loss. If small businessmen like myself are contemplating
this surely the big players and investors like the Chinese and the
Saudis are ready to do the same. If something does not happen soon I can
see a drop in demand for US debt issues.

Don't forget all the Americans sneaking north of the border to be
"pretend" Canadians to get flu shots that our esteem president and his
administration failed to make sure we had an adequate supply.

Keep in mind my fellow Americans that our neighbors to the north have
a much stricter drug testing (Vivo anyone?) and I felt the President
insulted the Canadian just by intimatidating they have tainted drugs
to help less the burden on our seniors who would be able to buy
cheaper drugs from Canada.

Yep.....our Prez motto...free trade for our corporations....not for

Prior to being appointed to the presidency he

Canada wasn't impressed when Govnenor George W. Bush said, back during the 2000 campaign, that
"Mexico was America's biggest trading partner".

In fact, and not to be an insulted neighbour, every time a President of the USA has become
leader since the beginning of the 20th century, his first move was to visit his neighbour to
the north. That's a long time, and many Presidents.

Bush was the first in generations to not do that and visit Mexico instead, a place he knew
better.

Until Bush was President, he'd only been to Canada once. That was when the Texas Rangers
played the 2 time World Series champs Toronto Blue Jays. He was there for an exhibition game.

They lost all 3. :)

You don't know half of it!

We have to wait until high tech consumer products are released in the USA because your market
is huge. It's a good thing when products go "ka ka", fuck up and by the time they hit our
market it's 3 months later and the stuff works like a dream.

In a weird sense, the US is Canada's "Guinea pig". We get the stuff after you've test driven
