That's an odd one. I imagine it's caused by some physical impact to the
surface of the screen which has damaged the LCDs behind it. Normally you get
a complete horizontal or vertical line of pixels affected, rather than
isolated areas of the screen. I have a horrible feeling it's going to need a
new screen...

Looks much too perfectly circular to be that imo.

Yes, that’s much more likely, but again, hard to see how that
would kill that bit of the screen so it stays completely black.

Even if it was say very hot or very cold.

Can't see how that could happen and not leave visible damage on the case.

Could be something was inside the laptop when the lid was closed on it, but
even then, hard to see how that could produce that sort of damage to the
screen.

Don't believe any air bubble that big would be such a perfect circle.

It has to be something like a coin or lid, but hard to see why one
of those would produce a perfect black damaged section.

It got too much pressure applied to it - either from being hit with
something, or quite commonly, the lid was shut while there was something
resting on the keyboard.

The screen is shagged, replace it and move on (£25 - £60 depending on
the exact model of panel, and a 10 min job)

(or for those too tight to spend money on computers, just use it with an
external display)
