Are the Pulse wrist support gloves available? I remember earlier
discussion here on the forums when they were still prototypes. Did I
miss something, or are they part of the 2005 product lineup and totally

I have one question I was looking at the onza hub and the splines are
very thin and shallow. so i was wondering is it more likely to slip then
your 2004 style (my favourite) also why else did you go to onza?? I am
not trying to bash onza or anythging just curiouse:confused:

They sure are pretty...

Couple questions:

1. What makes the than the
'new KH/onza cranks' (Loading Image...)
stronger than the 'old onza cranks?'
(Loading Image...) . They look
exactly the same...

2. Why does the trails uni not have a bike style post?

3. What quality is the post used? It looks to have a bonded head and
very short rails.

4. How strong are the rims? I expected a better profile, more like the
arrow. These are very similar to alex's, with a slightly deeper inner
wall.

5. Has anything been done about the quality control? I see a few things
in those pics that are a little off...and those are the displays!

6. Why all the secrecy about the price. Anyone can get a ballpark figure
by just looking
'here' (http://tinyurl.com/6l8lm)

*No need to complain- the inner width is shown in the inset picture-
35mm for the freeride rim and 30.8mm for the cross country rim. *
Ah!, I completely missed that info on the web page. Either that, or I
read it and promptly forgot.

That 700c rim is cool. I think it may be the widest 700c rim
available.

I hope the rims will be available separately. I may be replacing the
old Avro Zum rim on my KH Pro muni. It's bent and warped enough that I
can't use a brake with it any more. I'd prefer to replace it with the
new KH Freeride rim.

*not to bump a slightly old thread, but anyone know what(if any) the
warranty is on the onza/KH2005 hub/crank set? its quite a bit cheaper
than the profiles and i'm trying to determine if the profile is worth
the extra $$. thanks *
The Profile hub is worth the extra money if you happen to have a frame
with machined bearing holders that was designed for 40 mm bearings. The
Onza/KH hub uses 42 mm bearings and will not fit in a frame with 40 mm
machined bearing holders. The Profile is "worth" the money in that case
because there is no other alternative. Well Qu-ax and some others may
be an alternative if they happen to use 40 mm bearings. I don't know
what size bearings Qu-ax uses.

My KH Pro frame uses 1-5/8" bearings. That's 41.275 mm. I don't know
if there is enough slop in there to fit a 42 mm bearing or not. I doubt
a 42 mm would fit. So in my case I'm stuck with Profile.

Profile also has some crank length options not available on the Onza/KH.
And the Onza/KH has a few crank length options that are not available
on Profile.

John,

I'd have thought that surely with all the different machines, etc
running bearings you could find a 1/2" bearing with the inside diameter
to fit the new KH axle and the outside diameter to fit your frame. Is
this not the case? Have you looked through any product lines other than
unicycles? I'm sure you've already looked into it...it just surprised
me, that's all.

It's surprising, but there are no stock bearings available that have the
correct ID for the Onza/KH hub and a 40 mm OD (or 1-5/8" OD). It's just
not a size that's available.

Most custom frames have been made to fit 40 mm OD bearings. Some (like
my older KH Pro) were made to fit 1-5/8" OD bearings. The changeover to
hubs that use a 42 mm OD bearing leaves those of us with legacy frames
in a bit of a predicament. Oh well... We've still got Profile which is
still a good hub.

I had forgotten about that. And I'm still surprised at the bearing size
that Torker uses. How are people going to find replacement bearings for
their Torker unicycles? Is Torker stocking those bearings and selling
them as replacements?

If those Torker bearings are available that would be a very good thing.
It would mean that people with older frames will be able to use the
Onza/KH hub.

Nothing is indestructable but after 6 months of testing the hub is
as-new. The cranks have been around for a lot longer than that and for
almost everyone have been more than strong enough. I know a few really
hard-on-your-equipment riders that have bent the cranks before, but
that's the exception and the same thing happens with every other
crankset.

wow, these unis look spectacular. i did not realize that you (kris)
were making a new rim as well. i cannot wait to see it in person!

as it was said before in a couple threads, it is only coming in blue. i
think the blue looks awesome, even better than the orange. its a pity
that the seatposts arent blue as well, though.

i too noticed that the hub/cranks resemble the onza much more than the
kh, although im sure that kris had much more influence in the design :)

Ok lots to reply on this, so a bit of a compilation.

Cranks on new KH/Onza hub. These are the same the Onza. So if you have
an old Onza hub, it will fit these cranks. Although there is a new
locking system fitted to stop creaking and wear which was the main
problem with the cranks.

The pitch on the bearings is 100mm so it will fit the Onza or the KH
unicycles.

Price, it is competitively priced... check out a set of BMX cranks and
add in the price of a bottom bracket/hub.

Rim, it has been under test for about 9 months and has proved it to be
as good as any other if not better.

Titanium ISIS, Joe who was getting this made got let down by his
manufacturer. He has the design ready to go, but can not find any one
to make it for sensible money at the moment.

The bearing fitted are 42mm bearings. If you have a pressed steel frame
it is likely that you can get them to fit without a problem. If you
frame has machined bearing housing that were made for 40mm bearings,
then you can not use.

I think that is all.....

It looks like they uploaded an older version of the spec sheets
...So that indicates it was a late-minute decision to change that
to 165 mm. Woohoo (the weeping kind of woohoo, not the cheering one).
Klaas Bil - Newsgroup Addict
--
"Deflating pi does not reduce calories, it just concentrates them. -

I tested both 165 and 170's.

I knew that shorter cranks would be better for cross-country but because
I'm oriented towards technical riding I initially thought that 165's
might feel too short for steep climbs and descents.

As it turned out, the 165's were just fine for this and also had a few
advantages:
-easier to absorb shocks when not in the horizontal crank position
-easier to roll out of big drops and steep ramps because you can spin
faster.

If you are taking a look at both the KH24 Freeride and the KH24 XC and
aren't planning on doing *really* agressive riding, I'd say think
seriously about getting the XC. The rim on the XC is still really
strong (approximately similar to the DX32) and with the lighter tire and
rim it's noticably lighter feeling when pedalling than the Freeride, and
the 150mm cranks make better sense for less technical riding. That
said, if you like big drops and do a lot of riding in really rocky
terrain, the FR is still the way to go.

The rims are hard anodised not powder coated. They should not squeek
with the right blocks on them, I think it is the black Magura blocks you
need....

The rims are available for sale at Unicycle.com. We also have the
Nimbus 29" rim which is I think actually wider (only slightly); but it
is only single skin. Although if you look for them on the site, they
are not there yet. We have not been able to get the up yet. Hope to
have them there for the end of the week.

from what I can see on 'kh site' (http://www.krisholm.com/products/) and
'bedford pics' (http://community.webshots.com/album/226545941saRXkg)

And the old kh frames angle downwards to the front, these noodles look
like they will angle your foot upwards in front.

Just curious why?

This is a point very well taken. The Obie posts lean heavily toward the
counterproductive and tasteless. However, physically threatening someone
publicly who is a fellow forum member probably ranks slightly below that
in tastelessness. What you two decide to do in your PM's is at least no
longer public. Please take the vindictive and posturing trash out of

*Is the new Onza hub stronger than the old? *
The ultimate strength is the same on the KH-Onza hub because the spline
pattern and diameter are the same. But it should be more durable
because the tapered axle ends and split washers are designed to prevent
the creaking that, over the long term, wears out your axle splines.

Also, internally splining the flanges is a much stronger way to attach a
hub to an axle, compared to the keyways on the old KH or Onza hubs.
This should eliminate any possible loosening of the axle in the hub.

The hub is also slightly lighter. Importantly, the flanges are also
much improved- this makes your rim stronger because the spokes can
support it better.

*6. Why all the secrecy about the price. Anyone can get a ballpark

That will show you the exact price for the UK. I would guess the
US/Canada prices have not yet been determined. Why give out a price that
will be wrong? Then you get tons of questions from people who read the
wrong price somewhere else. This can especially be a problem if the
"ballpark" figure is lower than the final price comes out to be.

Price or no price, I'm gonna get me one.

It looks like they uploaded an older version of the spec sheets- some of
the info was incorrect on the detailed component description at this

The correct versions are at:

It also seems that the info is mixing the 20" and 24" versions. The
frame weight is correct for 20" and they make statements about
hardcore trials, but at the top it says 24", and also the rim and tyre
specs are for 24".

And I see that the obsolete spec for crank length includes my beloved
170 mm. So that indicates it was a late-minute decision to change that
to 165 mm. Woohoo (the weeping kind of woohoo, not the cheering one).

I really like how Kris had custom rims made to fit the needs and
function of each unicycle. The freeride muni has a wider rim, the XC
muni has a less wide rim, and the 29er has a wide 700c rim. Very cool.
Much better rim choices than we had before by using bike rims. The
trials rim and freeride rim are wider than the Alex DX32 that we have
been using as the standard muni or trials rim.

Wouldn't it be funny if the bike folks discover these rims and try to
get them. :)

My only complaint is that Kris has given the rim widths with the outside
width of the rim. It's the inside width, where the tire sits, that is
the important measurement.

Warranty is: If the KH/Onza breaks due to a manufacturing defect, it's
warrantied. If you land badly off an 9 foot drop to flat concrete and
it bends, that wouldn't be warrantied. Otherwise the 95% of people who
don't break cranks would be paying extra to fund replacements to the 5%
of people who are really hard on their equipment.
