Was at the beer store today...wandering around...
it struck me that there are a buncha new suds outta
the east coast...shit, everyone KNOWS they can't
brew back there...Genny Cream?...OK...I loved it
as a kid...Ballantine Ale?....same thing...but for every
1/2 way decent beer, there's shit like Rolling Rock
outta PA...Molson Golden...Carling Black Label...
Miller Low Life...do you see where I'm going with this?
Name me a bad beer...I mean bad...I mean you aint drinking
it if it's the last beer in the fridge and it's 3am 2 minutes to
blackout drunk on Christmas eve drunk...beer that is brewed
west of Reno...I'm waiting <folds arms>...huh?
Can't do it.
That's why today was soo damn puzzling...who wants to drink
a beer brewed in Maine?...anyone?....syrup for your MF'in waffle?
Sure..they got that down...but beer?
Hell no.
I snapped outta it and peeped some suds from the great Sudwerk
crew outta Davis...just up the road...they Hefe a thing of beauty...
Hmmm....a Marzen...IPA...Pale Ale...
I went for the Marzen...haven't tasted a Marzen since that fateful
night at the (now defunct) Gordon Biersch Brewery next to the
bay bridge...do you have ANY idea what 15 Marzens and piles
of Garlic Fries does to ya the next morning?...it aint pretty, let me
tells ya...
Anyways....lets get on with it.
Nice pour....sorta light crimson/golden...interesting colour...
that familiar Marzen aroma...malt...more malt...slightly sweet
on the nose...damn!...it's been a while...cinnamon...the sweetness
hits ya, then takes a backseat to that malt...this is a hell of a complex
sud...caramel....a VERY nice balance going on here...
All in all, a great beer..would I drink this all the time...probably not...
I'm still deep onto my Hefeweizen research...I don't see that changing
in the near future, but to shake things up, I'm loving this diversion.

Too funny :-)

I don't know what it is about me and alcohol. I used to drink beer not
infrequently until my late-20's or so. I actually love the taste of a
good cold beer, but I swear I feel my senses deadening after only one.
Two beers and I probably wouldn't be comfortable driving, even though
that amount would not put me near the legal limit.

Was at the beer store today...wandering around...
it struck me that there's shit like Rolling Rock
outta PA.
The Rolling Rock shit you peeped is now manufactured by InBev-Anhauser
Boosh in Newark New Jersey. I understand after the InBev AB purchase
of RR, the recipes and brewing process were slightly modified and the
hops used are the same variety as used in Budweiser. The water now
used is highly filtered municipal Newark water. The product is now
below Ken Fortenberry's standards and now deemed undrinkable by beer
enthusiasts and several professional beer reviewers. I use the term,
manufactured, because InBev AB does not brew beer by my imagination,
they are way too big and too powerful for my comfort.

Years ago, I used to drink Rolling Rock when they were a small
western PA brewer, and brewed with pride with a different variety of
hops and filtered spring water from a source near Latrobe PA. Rolling
Rock had a very small cameo role in the 1978 movie, The Deer Hunter.

Rolling Rock has always been grain-adjunct swill. They use a "variety of
hops" the same way that Bud does. When we were growing up, sure, there was
a bit of a mystique about it - it's a PA beer, small company owners, the
whole 33 thing - all working to tantalize the 17 year old drinker - but
make no mistake, Rolling Rock was always yellow beer.

Ken can't hear you. He's busy out in the side yard. Make sure you wash
your hands now, Ken, before you pop the top on that next Budweiser ;-)

Introducing some barnyard or pet shit to Budweiser (as long as you didn't know about it), would probably give it a bit of flavor - I'd like to see the double-blind on this.

Ok, you're slow, but you're learning. Keep it vague and no one will tip that you don't know the Bay Area beyond the well-worn footpath from your apartment to the Toronado to the pluot store. Keep up the good work, junior!
Meanwhile, I thought I might spot your beret at the Independent this past Friday night for Dr. John, but I guess you were just down the road, swimming with the phishes. What happened to you, man?

Independent this past Friday night for Dr. John,...
Geez....thanks for inviting me, Larry....I mean,
I don't need to be wined n' dines all nite, but a free ticket
and a couple beers aint gonna break anybody....
I'll remember this, Larry.
I just bought a ticket for Sonny Rollins...you heard of
him, right Larry?...a living legend...probably not on
your radar, but a legend nonetheless...sure, I loved the Dr.
since I was in short pants, but ya gotta move on at some point...
is he STILL doing the whole roll around in menstrual blood
and glitter voodoo shit, baby?...that got old even when you
HAD hair, Larry...remember when you had hair, Larry?...
you were a good lookin' kid back then....now you resemble
a hung over Yule Brenner most days...you remember Yule Brenner
dontcha Larry?...sure, he overdid the whole "Fiddler on the Roof"
shtick, but he was a breath of fresh air on the Merv Griffin show...
He died a broke, bitter man, Larry...doing print ads for MF'in ben
wah balls in Hustler magazine...you remember Hustler Magazine,
dontcha Larry?...I'll bet you still have a complete collection...
wall to wall copies lining your hallway....a mint condition ultra
rare "scratch n' sniff" ish from February 1983....no, you
don't throw anything out, do ya, Larry...hoarding was never
my bag....You?....the only thing you've ever thrown away
was our friendship...as Friday clearly exhibited...
I'm going to forget Friday ever happened, Larry...
I suggest you do the same.
I shant return to this thread.
