KB2286198 failed on two of three computers on my network. Failure occurred on
a XP professional and one of two XP home systems. Error code is 0x80070005.
Any suggestions?

That error code is E_ACCESSDENIED, which should give you an idea where to
look.

SysInternals Process Monitor may uncover something. You should look in
particular for "ACCESS DENIED" in the Result column. This will only show
actions that are denied by access controls, it has no way of finding cases
where the installer decided to return E_ACCESSDENIED for whatever reason of
its own. However, other actions around the time of the error could offer
clues. For example, a security or missing related registry entry.
