I sense the spirit of soc with this story. I think it was set up long ago
in his reign. I say this because I hear EE is running a sepsis story. Where
is Nancy Banks Smith?

Might this be right?

I think septicaemia is the infection that causes sepsis, which is the
body's reaction to it.

We watched the CtM last night and I already knew it was not a good end
from fb groups but i wasn't prepared for 2 bad endings. To have the
young man get 3 years as well as finishing Barbara seemed ott misery.

And the week before the woman who had been in the mental home for
being a bit naughty as a girl and getting pregnant and then not
allowed to keep the baby, while the well-behaved sister also ruined
HER life and almost that of her daughter. They are wallowing in
misery.

We've had some more down than up weeks too as I've been feeling ill
and we've had otehr stuff so we fled to the Cruise last night. A
luxury ship around the Arctic with at least one very silly crew
member, just the thing. Except we watched CtM after that and so misery
at the end.

I was wondering if Sunday was the episode where Maul the Kidwife jumped

You could be right. :) They often do it.

I'm a big concerned about Cormorant Strike too. We've watched the

comments expressed what I thought when I saw it was just two one-hour
episodes; How on earth did they get it all into two hours? They
ditched the internaal voice of the killer for one thing, and that was
very horrible. Actually the whole book was pretty much and

I have read the book and saw the second episode tonight and still have
no idea. B says he spotted the killer because why was a man with
walking frame out at night in the Elephand and Castle. I did know
who the killer was when I finished the book but it was a while ago. I
remembered the wedding and more details of the relationships :). The
book was much nastier and scarier, even though we saw pictures of body
parts in the tv version. Comments I saw said maybe they had to tone
it down for tv. I understood she had pretty much control of how it was
adapted.

If we managed to afford it we'd have the problem of the dog and two
cats. We did say it might be the only way we'd manage a trip abroad,
rhealthwise, would be from Tilbury by ship. And around Xmas #2
daughter did actually suggest she wanted to treat us to a cruise, but
then her move of house happened and the new mortgage bit and I haven't
heard about it lately :).

I don't think I'd like a cruise like the ones we've been watching on a
large ship with many decks and free alcohol. B can't drink and I
hardly do and I'd come back 2 stones heavier, but maybe a cruise on a
smaller ship with lectures or art classes or something might be nice.
I did sail for 4 years with Capt Ex and do love being at sea, away
from land, for days on end. But am used to having the run of the whole
ship, including bridge and engine room.

We haven't been on one of the really huge ships but we've always found
it possible to escape from the hordes quite easily: there are little
pockets of comfortable spots to sit and be quiet. On the first cruise we
went on, to Alaska, about 20 years ago, the library was splendid, with
big comfy chairs with headphones for playing music. These days they are
tiny spaces although usually a very good selection of new books.

I've found that the food mostly looks wonderful but tastes disappointing
and I like marching round the deck first thing in the morning so that
burns off a few calories.

When I was working I found the sea days were great for relaxing
completely but more recently I've found them boring. This summer we're
going on our first river cruise, from Basel to Amsterdam. It costs much
more than a sea cruise but there won't be any empty days.

Oh, up the Rhein (Rhine, Rijn)? should be nice in the summer. Lots of
lovely scenery, castles, wine. Not sure what there is north of Cologne,
but probably still interesting. Enjoy.

I think there seems to be a major push to increase sepsis awareness at

It has been going on for some time. Nearly 2 yrs ago our youngest
was given sepsis responsibility at A&E. But then having trained her
withdrew it and employed someone on a higher pay scale - she could
not apply as she did not have enough experience for the grade
increase.

Could be. I just sense soc was on to any bandwagon of headline grabbing
stories he could find. I think killing off a character is more likely to
fit with long term planning. Sepsis has certainly been high profile in the
last 2/3 years. There must be some residue from his reign of terror.

As for Ian, Adam and Lexi, I despair. And the daft Toby Pip scenario.
Plus Briahn and his bins! But I didn’t listen yesterday and plan to avoid

I've had a few times, over the past few years, when I've reached that
point and just stopped listening for a while, which definitely improved
matters for me. It wouldn't surprise me if I reach that point again
before too long, the way things are going in Ambridge.

So far, I've always ended up dropping back into Ambridge and getting
caught up in it again but who knows if that'll happen next time.

I don't know, I thought the I/A/L story is one of the few potentially
happy things - short-term anyway, the aged parents aspect being a cloud
in the distance. And it may be realistic, but it's dragging a bit for a
drama: AFAICR the fertilisation/implantation hasn't happened yet.

As for Toby/Pip, I'm reserving judgement. Though Toby taking over Neil's
pigs stretches credulity rather! (Has Neil actually accepted the Berrow

I sense the spirit of soc with this story. I think it was set up long ago
in his reign. I say this because I hear EE is running a sepsis story. Where
is Nancy Banks Smith?
Might this be right?
I think there seems to be a major push to increase sepsis awareness at
the moment. This suggests to me that this wasn't set up all that long
ago but was the result of some effective campaigning by one of the
sepsis charities, inside the BBC.
I only wish they'd done it a few years ago :(
But who has to be made aware?

The first target is the patient. They have to recognise the symptoms.

But it is not that straightforward.

I have had two serious bouts of sepsis. Associated with cellulitis.

The second time the symptoms were the same; shaking and shivering and
feeling icy cold with a painful leg.

But I didn't think of sepsis.

Because I had the other symptom - dissociation.

My head was spinning and I could not think straight.

It took me some time (hours) to realise what was wrong with me and get
treatment.

And treatment needs to be measured in minutes.

She said that Nic's friend had been told in November, just before Huw
left, and that she had kept the secret, presumably until, or shortly
before, recording. Elsewhere, possibly on Today, Becky said that it was
recorded in Januury.

I will buy that. He didn’t last long.

Not EE, Call the Midwife. She died, too.

So I now understand. Uncannily, we have not watched ctm this time round. I
sensed it had nowhere left to go within the context originally created.

It is certainly running out of steam, which is why, I suspect, that they
felt the need to kill one off. I now find I'm watching it for
anachronisms. I think the doctor's house is suspiciously modern for the
time.

Have you noticed the cash register in the community centre cafe always
reads 1 51, and this is 8 or nine years pre-decimalisation, so both an
anachronism and a continuity failure.

Which reminds me, watching Back in Time for Tea, for some
unaccountable reason, when the family were shown driving round in
a little Vauxhall, the sequences from inside the car were shown
mirror image, yet the external shots were correct.

I thought for a few moments that they had had to use a LHD car,
but this was clearly not so.

Well, the original was based on the books, and has used them all;
however, as a context of looking at medicine as it was fifty years ago,
it obviously has the potential to run for ever (provided the Beeb can
afford it; it must be expensive), and I don't think I'd mind that.

It is certainly running out of steam, which is why, I suspect, that
I had that thought two or three episodes ago, which made me sad, as I
enjoy it. But I think it got going again.

Wouldn't a doctor be moderately richer than the average, and thus have
modern things? Or do you mean in some other respects?
