Talking of which, the NetGalley book I am reading at the moment (Lady of
the Ravens M'Lud, 3* at best), which used slither as I did above
<shudder> last night came up with "wearing a dress of white cloth of gold".

Now aiui, cloth of gold is, well, gold. The clue's in the name - strips
of beaten gold wrapped round threads of silk and then woven. HowTF can
it be "white" ?

So has the waife, but I don't think they'd have used that in the time of
Henry VII, as it wouldn't send out the same message of wealth and power,
being easily confused with silver.

Handling mercury (which we used to do often, before H&S was a thing)
whilst wearing a gold ring will result in a form of white gold.

Indeed so. I recall the class being invited to feel this strange
liquid metal.

Also Barlow's Wheel, with added sparking just to make sure we get
a good dose of vapour.

I think my wedding ring is white gold. When we got married we used one
from a little shop inHampstead. Inexpensive silver-colour, with
decorative, not valuable tiny stones on it. A few years later we got
one made and it was white gold. It is a soft metal and the etching
wore off over time.

Would you rather be disinterred?
I think I am disinterbred and am losing the race.
Second of all?
What is the criteria for deciding first and second?
This thread has gone on far too long. Time for the coupe de gras.

I simply don't believe that Jim would say "I'll consult

We should protest the TA studio.
:-)
I'm bored of that.
Could you be a little more pacific?
I see a slither of light on the horizon.
That's probably from the many stadiums in the distance.
You need to hone in on one of them.
That's a mute point.
This thread has become a mindfield
