Definitely not the best weather: torrents of rain, bright sun, windy, and a
thunder storm. We did manage to get out and back for a lunch locally
though! It can jolly well improve for Saturday when we go out with the
family for lunch!

the road was dry, no sign it had rained. Pulled up outside the school
in plenty of time and the sky darkened. 3.30 the nuggering heavens
opened. Luckily granddaughter said she likes her hair getting wet.
She did have a hood and an umbrella but enjoyed the rain. I did not.
And then later from her home to my car I got soaked again.

I'd been congratulating myself this morning because every day when I
walk the sog around 10.30 it stops raining and the sun comes out.

That looks more or less the one my friend got (don't know if his was
"waterproof with drain holes" mind!), and is certainly more like the
price.

Do note that, as shown (despite being on amazon.co.uk), that one is US
layout: look at shifted 2 and 3, and where #'~@" are (and I think no
pound sign). This is not insurmountable - there are two choices: either
ignore the actual symbols on the keyboard and carry on as you are
(assuming your system is set up for UK keyboard layout): this will mean
you don't type what's on the keys; or change your PC to US layout, which
will be unfamiliar but you soon get used to it, and you use AllChars to
get the pound sign (or just type pounds or GBP).

(Or ask the seller if it actually is a UK layout and they've just used a
stock photo - or if they have options.)

Thank you. It's a PC. B did put a couple pf stickers on keys that had
faded on a previous keyboard. I could just put my glasses on and then
not need to enlarge the screen as much either. Things are sort of
changing but the symbols aer definitely the worst.

(amzn.to/2orvJjw for short.) Interesting. Rather expensive compared to
other sticker sheets (8.69 - that's about the same as the complete
keyboard otherrats are discussing [the one with the drain holes]), but:
o includes a USB light _and_ tweezers (to help application)
o includes a "we'll replace ones you screw up", and 3 yr warranty
o says the symbol goes right through. (Two of my stickers - I bought one
of the 2 or 3 pound sets - have worn [oddly, ALT and one of the SHIFT
rather than a letter], though not by much.)

Although it _says_ "Fits both Laptop and desk top", looking at the first
picture (you can zoom in), the stickers look physically too _tall_ to
me. (There is a picture of them on a laptop, but that's the one picture
that's blurred so I can't see clearly whether they're overhanging the
keys. Or it might be a carefully-chosen laptop [it's an hp].)

[The heading says "(U.S. English Keyboard)", but the text says "(UK
layout)", and the pictures do indeed show a pound sign on the 3.]

For some, the idea of a little light (doesn't have to be USB, but that's
probably simplest if you can spare a socket) might suffice on its own;
for laptop use, I'd go more for one that clips onto the top of the
screen rather than on a gooseneck - gets in the way less, and I think

I noticed that, but didn't see it as at all negative - a positive if
anything!

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, that folk with poor eyesight (rather
than old) might be slightly more likely to knock over their coffee or
other drink; a bit brutal, but I suspect true nevertheless.

keyboard one weekend when I had literally taken work home. That was the
first time I dismantled a keyboard and lead to my realising you could mend

That's very interesting. Can you remember what make/brand/whatever the
"silver" pen was? I ask, because it sounds as if it might be useful for
repairing car rear window heaters, and both somewhat cheaper and more
usable than the silver paint you used to be able to buy [still can
online] for that purpose (which does work, but needs several goes, and
is too runny. The marker pens sound as if the consistency would be
better).

I'm not sure, this was last century but I doubt brand matters. I think all
'metallic' markers probably use aluminium in the 'ink'. If it claims to be
acrylic then it will put up with a degree of flexing and you should be able
to build up some thickness if you let it dry between coats.

Apropos acrylic markers, grandd#1 broke her arm at the end of the summer
term so had her arm in a rather stylish deep-purple cast for the holidays
(causing some wardrobe problems as garments already purchased could not be
put on) and family were allowed to sign it - she was very fussy about where
the names went. I used a fairly recently acquired 'gold' acrylic paint pen*
to write my name. She was told off for use of acrylic on the cast when she
went to have it removed. They claimed it blunts the blade.

You can wash just about any keyboard. I regularly wash mine but you must
make sure it's absolutely dry (usu. 2 - 3 days on top of the desktop case
or airing cupboard). When you run water through it you should see the cr*p
that comes out!

To be fair, that happened a couple of years ago and the combi boiler
has been fixed and is fine. A couple of days after the Big Bang I
spotted the same make and model machine [1] in the BHF shop for a
tenner, bought it and if anything, it's working better than the
earlier one - and I don't just mean because it hasn't gone bang.

semi-comprehensible, pretentious scenario and featuring a couple of
insufferably vain, smug, repellent people. It took about two seconds

b) the "Run Up To Christmas" has started.
<sigh>

Mind you, I'm beginning to feel as though Christmas comes round about
once a month now, and breakfast every twenty minutes or so.

available. (For example: I've never seen just the hat part of a halogen
oven.)

If you live in a hard water area, the salt deposits left behind could
cause problems.

I can remember spilling cola (so as there to beno mistake) years ago
onto a keyboard and that was a primitive one you could take apart and
wash the top bit of. I've had an Amstrad 6128 a borrowed Spectrum, and
then PCs but think it was pre-pc.
