A Singapore court jailed 3 persons for periods
from 10 days to 5 weeks for speaking in public.

Is speaking in public a crime?

In a progressive and democratic society, one has
the rights , and it is NOT wrong, to speak his
mind freely, in public and in private. It is certainly
NOT a crime.

It is an injustice to punish someone who has NOT
committed a crime. The Singapore court has been
unjust.

The law is unjust if it jail a citizen for speaking in
public which is NOT a crime. The unjust law
should be changed.

Is there a place for such an unjust law, such an unjust
judge in a modern and progressive society like Singapore ?

In the interests of justice in Singapore, would our
yes-man MPs abolish our unjust law, jailing Singapore
citizens for speaking in public !

Well, according to the judge, there are 3 conditions for the crime:
1) Uttering words
2) Where you can be heard by the public
3) Not possessing a police permit

So, please be very careful when you meet a friend on the street and say
something like "Hello, John, how are you?"
But then being in jail means free food and lodging and exemption from
GST.

The Judge is wrong.

The law that treat speaking in public as a crime
is seriosly FLAWED. The problem is with the law,...
not our rights to speak freely in public.

This unjust law has no moral grounds to
be in existence in any civil society....a democratic
soceity.

It should be abolished ....by our elected MPs.

I am NOT concerned about Chee, but about

In a democratic society, speaking freely in public

It is wrong to jail citizens for speaking in public.
Only criminals deserve to be jailed....NO innocent

Why prevent people from speaking freely

WHY ?

Any hypothesis, e.g. too much 'let go' so they added more chlorine to
treat it to prevent diarrhoea, and this in turn is bad for the heart.

Maybe we will have to boil water to brush our teeth in the not too

I say, let's just end this experiment, and let Beattie get one of his

Hey Simoni...

Has the old godfather wronged you?! why the bullets
always pointed at his direction. He is not the King any
more....Let him be.....after all he has done a lot for
Singapore.

I thought this law was not in place when he ruled
Singapore. This rule somehow got into the law book
without going through the Parliament. (I might be
wrong).
I notice a lot of laws affecting our life were enacted
without debate in parliament. Is this constitutional ?

Hey Botak

In life there is no such thing as naming a person forever a good
person.......a good person today can turned evil the next day........It
is just that as human one just got to do the best to fellow human and
must try not to cause misery to others, if possible..

Come to think of it, you can considered it as fate, for old man to
behave in the manner and those helpless opposition members were fated
to cross swords with old man.........and got what they are
today........

Personnally, in the first place I don't know old man and old man oso
don't me.....what I do know is, old man is the PAP's boss and he had
done alot into making what Sg is today But, he need not have to be so
mean to opposition members by bankrupting them ........can't he be more
graceful (toward fellow human regardless whether he is an opposition
member or not) afterall, he is old alreadi, anytime can 'up the
lorry'......

Very true....the old godfather is not the
man he used to be. ...it is a natural process.
After all, the able poeple who fought with him
have either retired or "upthe lorry"....A great
loss to Singapore and it is sad ...they were not
replaced by equally able men.

The old man is now surround by 'yes men'
and fools....For security reasons, he is unable
to see the real things on the ground for himself...
or implement needed changes all by himself...
without the mandate to do so.

He should have retired...to enjoy his golden
years..... playing with his grand children, writing
another chapter about himself and Singapore (An
eye opener). He would serve Singapore better
this way.

It is sad to see an old horse soldiering beyond
his years.....making occasional errors,... not
achieving what he used to accomplish.

The young one does not have his uncanny talent
in using good and able people....the 'empire builders'
type.
He is also surrounded by yes men, all too well paid...but
almost all, without exception, not able performers.

Oh hack, I talked too much........lets have fun instead, ...
in poking holes in the law that jailed citizen who have not
committed crimes.

Idiot ! If he is not Chee Soon Juan, will it happen ?
Don't talk rubbish here, go to the court and say
to the judge !

Hi, Botak
In Singapore, it is an offence to speak in Public without a police permit.
Even the world class famous one at Hong Lim Park needs a police registration
to speak freely under controlled conditioned.

vendors shouting their wares and prices could be charged also. One for
speaking without a license and two for noise pollution and three for public
nuisance. Those who speaks through a small mirophone and speakers should be

It is the peoples' right to speak freely in
public and it is NOT a crime to speak in
public.

Citizen MUST be jailed if he has committed
no crime. (speaking in public is NOT a crime)
This is the moral principle in a civil society.

If the law is UNJUST, and flawed ... It is
time to change the law. Your MPs should
change any unjust law.

Why must an 'unjust law' be allowed to
be perpetuated in our democratic society?

Is speaking in public a crime?
In a progressive and democratic society, one has
the rights , and it is NOT wrong, to speak his
mind freely, in public and in private. It is certainly
NOT a crime.
It is an injustice to punish someone who has NOT
committed a crime. The Singapore court has been
unjust.
The law is unjust if it jail a citizen for speaking in

should be changed.
Is there a place for such an unjust law, such an unjust

In the interests of justice in Singapore, would our

Since you said the law made it a crime, then why 'Citizen MUST be jailed

another issue, your statement itself is already a flaw.

First, let me make it very clear .... I don't care
what happened to Chee, the loser.

I am only concerned about the law, the flawed
law, the unjust law, the laughable law....upon
which the Judge jailed innocent citizens for
committing no crime.

One of the pillar of Democracy is the rule of
the law.....the JUST law, not flawed laws that
put innocent people in jail, people who have
not committed a crime.

It is wrong to jail citizens for speaking in public.

This is a FLAWED judgement, following a FLAWED
law. If this allowed unchallenged, Singapore become
a undemocratic society.....Certainly not a first world
society.
