...creeping outta the woodwork to make a couple of comments,
observations.

(Hey - *somebody's* gotta keep this newsgroup "alive" before it has no
legitimate articles!)

First up, something eerily uncanny that I'm sure the three remaining
readers of alt.comedy.marx-bros have thought about today.

1977: Groucho's death takes a backseat to that of Elvis Presley.

2009: Poor Farrah Fawcett loses her well-publicized battle with
cancer three hours before Jacko unexpectedly makes his final exit from
the big stage. Talk about bad timing.

Also: My husband (we're both in our mid-50s) mentions the above to
his two twentysomething female assistants at work, only to be met with
blank stares and this question (in unison):

"Who's Groucho Marx?"

He told 'em to Google it. <sigh>

Yes the Farah/Michael Jackson demises reminded of Groucho's death being over
shadowed by Elvis's death. At least Channel 5 in NYC played the four available
to television Paramount movies as a tribute shortly after Groucho's death
(Animal Crackers was not in syndication at the time).

Animal Crackers was rereleased to theaters in 1973/74, and made its
network television premiere on CBS in 1979.
