A 36-year-old woman died at her flat in south London of suspected
Covid-19 a day after calling 999 and being told to look after herself at
home.

Kayla Williams, a mother of three, died on Saturday 21 March, a day
after paramedics were called to her home in Peckham.

Williams said: “I called 999 because my wife was breathless, she was
vomiting and she had pains in her stomach. As I was talking to them she
was getting worse and they told me to put her on the floor and to make
her body flat.”

When the paramedic arrived at 8.32am she carried out some tests,
Williams said. “She told me the hospital won’t take her, she is not a
priority. She did not stay very long and she went outside to write her
report and posted it through the door.”

Documents seen by the Guardian completed by the London Ambulance Service
after their first visit show Kayla Williams was suffering from “?Cov
19”. Symptoms were listed as: “non productive cough … headache … chest
pains all over”.

The advice given was “self-care, use anti-pyretics, increase
food/fluid.”. Fabian Williams was advised to use “999 for emergency, use
111 online for advice. Family also advised to isolate”.

have not been very honest about it.

Some estimates say it's several times more deaths than that.

Unfortunately that may well be true particularly where the system is
stressed to capacity and the relatively young with no pre-existing
health conditions are assumed to be able to survive unaided.

My significantly older friend was treated the same way except his
symptoms were not quite so extreme and he recovered again. Most people
do but an unlucky few who might have survived if their vulnerability was
recognised sooner will die. There have been even younger victims already
so this virus doesn't exclusively only kill the old.

Medicine is an inexact science and they bury their mistakes.

There are hints that people with blood group A are slightly more
vulnerable and that the rarer group O the safest. B & AB neutral.

That is very unfair to the NHS. There will invariably be a handful of
difficult edge cases where the first responders make the wrong call.

It is just the way it is. We see this in many social care programs, the
middle class, clever, strong , assertive people learn how to exploit the
system to their own advantage and the weak are left behind. It's not
just the NHS, it is tax breaks, benefits, child care initiatives, etc.

I didn't mean to imply the NHS were shit, although I think in some
respects they are, I just meant that this was they way the world worked
and it is incredibly difficult to counter.

Maybe that is due to the government having downgraded the virus.
