Post by OlrikPost by b***@m.nuTo the man I would compare to a Kurt Cobain of the culinary world a
good author and a great chef, you were not with us long enough Anthony
Bourdain. RIP.
"There are idiots among us, and they all believe in a god"
I liked his TV shows a lot. I still have a few unseen "Parts Unknown" on
the PVR.
I first ran into Bourdain because Diane was often watching The Food Channel,
she was a pretty strong critic of the shows there, she loved his shows. I got
to see several of his shows and found him sarcastic, smart, knowledgeable,
cynical, and pretty obviously more than a little troubled, a man who
obviously loved meeting just about anyone and talking about food, drink, and
rambling, at times a bit drunkenly, on into just about any subject. He was
certainly passionate about his craft, but was just as willing to listen to
others with a different opinion on how to do it. After seeing several I made
sure to check him out often.
One of my favorite episodes was his visit to Turkey during Ramadan. The
interactions between he, an atheist, and his driver, a Muslim, were great.
Two more different folks you would be hard to find, yet they got along like
bandits. There was a lot to like about Anthony Bourdain, and lots to disagree
about, he seemed to be pretty cool with both. I watched a series of his shows
just a few days ago on TV, it was both enjoyable and tearful now that he is
dead. I certainly will miss his take on the world and how weird and wonderful
it can be.
