My breakfast was late, and it could have been called brunch due to the
time. I had scrambled eggs with a smidge of shredded cheese, two
Mary B's biscuits, and a large mug of coffee.

Mary B's biscuits? What kind of coffee... brand, how brewed, milk,
cream, sugar? I generally don't care for scrambled with cheese, an
omelet maybe with cheese but I prefer scrambled with nothing but
s n'p. Sometimes I like scrambled with lox, AKA Goldy Lox. I'd
much prefer Mary's and Joan's Cs.

Mary B's biscuits?
A brand that sells frozen biscuits in a plastic bag. You can bake one at
a time or the whole bag of 20 if you choose.

What difference does the brand make? You're not going to rush out
and buy a bag. It's whole bean which is ground fresh right before it's
brewed and made in a drip coffee maker with powdered coffee creamer
and aspartame in the mug.

I didn't cook this breakfast for you, I cooked the eggs how I like them.
But to give you a thrill, one of the eggs was a double yolk.

Sounds good. I used to grind beans but now I buy whichever is on
sale, usually Folgers. I found grinding beans was messy from static
electricity, and the coffee was no better than any brand. I drink
black no sugar.
I've not seen Mary B's biscuits here. I typically don't eat

Yes, in the wintertime the static electricity from the ground beans is
annoying. I get by that by putting the coffee basket in the sink then
using a coffee brush and whisking the remaining grounds out of jar.
What little that doesn't land in the basket is flushed down the drain.
The whole coffee beans I buy are far superior to any vacuum sealed
pre-ground coffee.

You'll have to check your local grocery store freezer case. If they don't
stock them then you'll have to go to a larger store with more variety.

Perhaps it's due to my boiler (not forced air) or a cooler kitchen, but
I never have trouble with static cling, and I grind my coffee beans in a
burr-style electric grinder every morning. The brush clean and easy
right into my coffee pot without any mess. There is usually some fine
powder left over in the grinder, but I leave that in there until the
next day. It gets mixed back in, and doesn't hurt anything. I'm
currently working on a bag of original 8 O'clock brand whole beans.

It's the very dry air in the winter that causes the static electricity. In
the summer I never have coffee grounds escaping and making a mess.

Sheldon lives near, so I plugged in the zip code for Schenectady.
Also no Mary B's biscuits within a 100 mile radius.

We're Yankees. We don't care that much about biscuits.

Sounds good. I used to grind beans but now I buy whichever is on
sale, usually Folgers. I found grinding beans was messy from static
electricity, and the coffee was no better than any brand. I drink
black no sugar.

Plenty of butter and the jelly on a very hot buscuit makes all the difference. In the south, many people dip buscuits in grits. And eat it with salted slices of ham.

Yep, that is pretty much a bunch of bullshit. Being a cook on a ship in
the Navy decades ago is anecdotal. The people he cooked for was a small
sampling of people in the grand scheme of things.

I wonder, how did he know who was from where? Military name tags didn't
specify "Southern", "Northern", "Mid West", "West Coast" in the chow
line. So, if he made doughy, underbaked biscuits, they likely only took
them because it was what was being served at breakfast. The Northerers
didn't bother because they knew the biscuits sucked. It's not like they
could leave the ship and go find breakfast biscuits at a restaurant. LOL
Southerners don't eat the ends of bread? Damn, guess I'd better get
all fancy and start cutting off the ends of bread and the crust, too.
Again, LOL. I've also never heard of anyone from the "South"
considering store bought hamburger buns as biscuits.

It's probably an exaggeration of truth, but I wouldn't be surprised that
back when Sheldon was a navy cook, many of the men leaving home only
subsided on home cooked meals, and southerners and northerners had quite
a different palate. Nothing else in his post seemed that out of place.
I would say that today, the lines are far more blurred.

Damn, don't you get tired of lying daily?? More horseshit from you.
Shelly is so full of shit his eyes are brown. All he ever cooked was gallons

I've never seen a rat here. The only mice I see are dead ones from all
the feral cats outside and the inside cats. The moles and voles last
a bit longer as they mostly stay underground.
There are rarely any squirrels here. The cats hunt all night. If a
field mouse sneaks in I give it ten minutes. Cats may look like
they're sleeping, but they are hunting.

The only critters here that steal cat food from the deck are skunks
and possums, and occasionally racoons. And of course birds. The
birds watch from high up on the tops of the tallest trees, they know
where the cats are and will sound a loud alarm. Cats do their best
hunting on a dark quiet night. If a mouse breathes a cat will find
it. A cat's sense of hearing, smell, and sight is far more acute than
any dog. It's been tried to train cats to follow a scent, cats do not
obey. Cats train humans to obey.

Wrong! Dogs have the better sense of smell whereas cats have the
better sense of hearing and sight.

Dogs have masters, cats have staff.

I found these furminators
https://www.furminator.com/products/deshed/cat.aspx
excellent with my long haired cat, still use it now in spring on my
short haired cat. It sort of gathers up the fur lying close to the
skin. Amazon sell them.

The rats that live underneath his back deck get most of that tossed out

Heck yeah. My daughter had one here for a time. They are very friendly.
IMO, the wild city rats give them a bad name since they live in sewers

A home pet rat is just as clean as a dog, cat or even ferret.

We had pet rats for a while. I worked in a lab and any time we ordered
rats for research projects the supplier usually sent a few extra so
sometimes we ran out of cages. I would take some home or give them to
friends. They make wonderful pets. They are very friendly.

Yes, nothing wrong with them. I never had rats though, only mice. We
have bush rats (or are they just small rats) here around the chicken
coop. Which attracts pythons.

I currently have a pet mouse and a cat. The mouse is nearing two years
old, and I unfortunately might not have her for much longer. In years
past, I've seen people giving away pet rats and pet guinea pigs, plus
their cages, etc. on Craigslist for a small sum of cash... maybe $20 -
50 as a "re-homing fee" (so they won't be used to feed a snake, etc). I
suspect that these people are moving or realize that they don't have the
time or funds to take care of the pets after purchase. After my mouse
is gone, I'll probably seriously consider one of those "deals". I had a
guinea pig as a child, I like the little chirps that they make.

You'll have to check your local grocery store freezer case. If they don't
stock them then you'll have to go to a larger store with more variety.
Perhaps not. Mary B's web site indicates that none are sold within
a 100 mile radius of me. I couldn't remember what Podunk town
Sheldon lives near, so I plugged in the zip code for Schenectady.
Also no Mary B's biscuits within a 100 mile radius.
Ah well, ok. I figured they'd be available everywhere like the frozen
Pillsbury biscuits.
We're Yankees. We don't care that much about biscuits.

Cindy is speaking for herself. (In a loose generalization, also proving
Sheldon's point.) I didn't grow up on biscuits, but I could have a good
home cooked one with every meal for sure!

Maybe. They've always struck me as enjoyable, but too time-
consuming. My situation isn't universal, but my grandmother didn't
get the cooking gene. Her sister would make delicious biscuits, but
only on weekends, since she worked at the post office. We rarely
visited my great-aunt at breakfast time. I never developed a biscuit
habit.

I'd rather have potatoes than biscuits, but toast is more practical.

Why not both potatoes and biscuits?
Too filling. Inadequate nutrient density.
Too many carb haters here ;)
A lot of old people with slower metabolisms here.

Sounds good. I used to grind beans but now I buy whichever is on
sale, usually Folgers. I found grinding beans was messy from static
electricity, and the coffee was no better than any brand. I drink
black no sugar.

I've not seen Mary B's biscuits here.

My breakfast was late, and it could have been called brunch due to the
time. I had scrambled eggs with a smidge of shredded cheese, two
Mary B's biscuits, and a large mug of coffee.
Mary B's biscuits?
A brand that sells frozen biscuits in a plastic bag. You can bake one at
a time or the whole bag of 20 if you choose.

What kind of coffee... brand, how brewed, milk,
cream, sugar?
What difference does the brand make? You're not going to rush out
and buy a bag.
Possibly, but possibly not. When I was in Monteagle, Tennessee this
past April, I found a car that I couldn't live without, and came back 2
weeks later with a friend to put an engine in it and drive it home (that
sure was an adventure, but I won't bore with details).

The folks who owned the car graciously let us pitch tents there, and his
wife made us breakfast the next morning. Honestly, she made the best
coffee that I ever had. Perhaps it was just the method that she used to
make the coffee, but I had to ask what brand before I left.

Believe it or not, she buys Wal-mart Great Value brand coffee (Decaf, of
all things). I couldn't believe it! I don't shop at Wal-mart, but I
might make an exception to grab some of that coffee and try it myself.

The whole bean coffee that I buy is a premium house brand from the
grocery store I shop at. It won't be available in New Yawk. Sometimes
I'll spring for a bag of Peet's whole bean but if that's available there, I
haven't a clue.

The Mary B's brand of frozen biscuits aren't likely available in upstate
NY but the brand has been discussed many times over the years. I find
the best way to bake them is in a round cake pan, sides of the biscuits
touching. They get a nice rise that way. I'm not convinced this was a
Sheldon post. Sheldon doesn't like [Southern style] biscuits so why
would it matter to him what the brand name is?

brewed and made in a drip coffee maker with powdered coffee creamer
and aspartame in the mug.

I generally don't care for scrambled with cheese, an
omelet maybe with cheese but I prefer scrambled with nothing but
s n'p.
I didn't cook this breakfast for you, I cooked the eggs how I like them.
But to give you a thrill, one of the eggs was a double yolk.
I'm suspicious. Sheldon doesn't do simple scrambled eggs. He cooks a
dozen eggs at a time with potatoes and other ingredients like a frittata.

I couldn't say whether or not Sheldon is actually interested in what
kind of coffee. I tend to ignore threads that are primarily about coffee.

Poached eggs, toasted whole wheat sourdough, grapes and coffee.

time. I had scrambled eggs with a smidge of shredded cheese, two
Mary B's biscuits, and a large mug of coffee.
Yesterday's breakfast was something of an experiment - salmon omelet,
Kept it simple and it worked. Will make it again.

Today's breakfast will be chicken liver, with garlic or onion, a
chili, cilantro and maybe a few other herbs from the garden.

plenty of recipes online.

included again :)
