Here's my entries for March.

Big Town Playboy - Eddie Taylor

Any Other Way - Jackie Shane

Jitterbop Baby - Hal Harris

Got A Great Big Shovel - Shorty Muggins

Shorty Muggins is much better known my his real name, which you will see when you go to the video. I never knew that he ever did real R&B/rock and roll. It's from 1949. The link bypasses studio chatter that is on the video before the record starts at about 28 seconds.

And I thought Champion Jack would take the whole shebang. Must have been early last year before I joined the festivities. I would’ve voted it first place early and often and psyched everyone else into voting for it.

Incredible how this got missed in the Battles (it's 1956 btw) whilst
several lesser obscure unreleased things by him DID feature.

It surely has to be the best Sun rockabilly never to get Battle status

Roger says the Bobby Rivera was in the 1957 Battle (it's probably my
fault nobody sussed it since I mispelled his name as "Riviera" in the
contest)

I guess some here will remember John D. Loudermilk's version of
"Susie's House" that Boatman revives here. Boatman's was an unreleased
track but I don't know the exact year. But since he died in 1964......

Any appetite for 5 songs each in the future. 15 days is too short and cuts out one third the fun. Plus too many good songs are eliminated right out of the gate before we get used to them and start to like them. Not to mention more good music to discover and enjoy.

We start tomorrow morning.
----------
We've got some real good'uns this month! I just listened to Jim's Goree
Carter record and I really like it, never heard it before. Carl
nominated a Savoy record I had also never heard before, "Rain Or Shine"
by Big Mike, another good one. Steve nominated "The Cadillac Song" by
Hot Lips Page and Mark nominated "Shorty's Got To Go" by Bill Johnson &
His Musical Notes; both of these are songs I've had and enjoyed for a
long time. Likewise Roger's nomination, "Nothing But Money" by Jessie
Knight with Ike Turner, and your Eddie Taylor "Big Town Playboy."
(I haven't listened to any of Rick's nominations yet; they're all
unfamiliar to me at this point.)

Hey!!!
If you can track this track down, it will be my sole nomination but it will check the most colossal obscure box of all!!

1961 give or take!@

The group was "The Blenders" a local short- lived sensation out of Knoxville! The lead fellow was an 18- yr old piano dynamo that worked one summer for my dad.
They cut a record entitled "I ask for your hand" that got airplay down here and they even played between features at the Family Drive-In theatre during its "run"

Find that song and that will be the one I can squeeze in!@

Now I can tell people I squoze, baby!!

Wow!!!

That's it!!!

And that is Lowell Kirby the writer and lead singer who worked for my dad!!

My dad was gruff, tough, and a frustrated musician who was a tad jealous of Lowell's talent!!

That line in the song:"And when I cried, I wept a tear" was the subject of Dad's criticism!!
He'd say," Goddammit, Lowell.....when you cry what else are you gonna weep!!??"
Pissed Lowell off!!

Lowell later became Knoxville city cop until he got his ass whupped by a drunk in Happy Holler, then he joined the Fire Dept.

Dang, Rog!! Thanks for excavating that memory!!

That's my entry, gang!!!

You're so very welcome!!!
