AL leader picked up for son’s attack on army man
New Age, Sylhet, November 8

The army picked up an Awami League leader from his Mirabazar residence
after they failed to find his son, who had attacked an army officer at
Barutkhana Friday night.
The AL leader, Ohidul Islam Tufa, was later released at the
intervention of the Sylhet City Corporation mayor, Badar Uddin Ahmed
Kamran.
An army squad had meanwhile run raids on possible hideouts to
arrest his son, Chamak, who reportedly runs a crime ring in Sylhet
city.
Chamak, expelled recently from the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal for
criminal activities, attacked an army officer, who was on his way to
Bandar Bazar on rickshaw with a colleague at about 9:15pm.
The rickshaw and the car Champak was in had been stuck in a traffic
jam at Barutkhana. As the car kept honking, the army officer got off
the rickshaw and asked the driver to stop the nuisance.
His protest prompted Chamak to come out of the car and locked in an
altercation with the officer.
At one stage, the expelled JCD activist hit the army officer in the
cheek and went away.
Later, the defence personnel and his colleague went to the
Jalalabad cantonment and reported the incident.
An army squad immediately launched a search for Chamak that night
and went to his house. As Chamak was not there, the soldiers picked
his father and a young man named Hakim.
The mayor met the army squad on the way back and asked the soldiers
to release Tufa. Hakim was, however, handed to police.
As police came to know of the incident, high officials had a
meeting at the superintendent’s office and decided to launch a drive
to arrest Chamak.
The additional superintendent of police, Abdullah Al Mamun, was
leading the drive but had failed to arrest Chomok till filing of this
report Saturday night.
When contacted, the Sylhet superintendent of police, Shadat
Hossain, denied army involvement in the drive, claiming that police
alone were conducting raids to arrest the criminal.
Local sources and witnesses however said that soldiers were on the
drive.
Police said Chomok and his gang abducted Nitai Banik, owner of a
jewellery shop from the city’s Mirjangal on October 7, after the
jeweller failed to pay toll.
Police arrested him after the incident but he was later freed on
bail.
Sources said Chomok and his accomplices were involved in various
criminal activities, including robbery, extortion and mugging.
They had also abducted many businessmen and realised money in
recent past.
The army filed a case under the Speedy Trial Act with the Kotwali
Police Station Saturday afternoon.

I know what is happened is obviously wrong. No one should tolerate this sort
of behaviour from anyone.I lived in BD for 26 years and I know how the
situation works.
On one hand Sons and relatives of Leaders take spremacy all over the country
for granted. And they are always above the law!And no one can reach them for
their dirty works.
On the other hand Bangladeshi Military has same supremacy over the general
citizens.Which I personally hate so much.It only happens in Bangladesh I
think army personnel are put in a such position by broken system that
everyone thinks they are almost adorable. But they are not. They are living on
our tax.We general citizens pay for their food.I hate the way Army personnel
treat citizens of Bangladesh. All they do is eat and drink and throw
parties.Every year Govt raise budget amount for them.If we had a little
fraction of that budget for our education system we would be better off. They
are sucking BAngladesh and slowing her down.
I want riddance from these two type of species who are killing bangladesh
each second.

The other species is the current Police. Totally useless bunch of wasted
tax money.

I suggest we split the Army into 2 groups- keep half as "BD Army", and
convert other half to "BD Police". Close down old police group and replace
that with new BD police.

That way, budget is utilized for Law & Order, nation gets a trained group
immediately for better police. Next step is to use this new BD police for
CLEAN UP the system- bring on DISCIPLINE to the roads and into people's
lifestyle.
