Post by meThe evidence is overwhelming. This civilization has been
purposefully destroyed.

If it was planned, it was planned by the news media. They were the
ones that caused this state of hysteria to spread around the world
by their constant gloom and doom daily news reports on the virus.
When have you ever seen a scoreboard set up for a virus? Fox News
has one that shows the deaths world wide and the deaths in the US,
updated daily.
People have a choice, they can hide in their homes like scared
animals, and let the world fall apart around them, or they can get
out and go back to work.
... and let another 200,000 die.
And let millions of people lose their homes and businesses, and starve
to death?
Haven't you realized yet that this virus can't be contained by a
lockdown?
It can be mitigated with sensible measures (we have never had a
lockdown) until a vaccine us ready. Better yet, we should have testing
and tracing to suppress it.
We do have testing and tracing. I've been tested, but Johnny is way
out of line. I agree that sensible precautions like distancing and
masks can and do limit the spread. This will end when we have a
vaccine. Hopefully early next year.
By testing and tracing, I mean everybody getting tested all the time
(perhaps once a week) and those who test positive have their contacts
traced. If we did that, we could open up more things.
And if pigs had wings they could fly, but they don't. The testing
equipment has taken time to develop. Of course we could have relied on
Obama's vast stockpiles of ventilators and COVID-19 test equipment,
but it seems to have disappeared. In any event we have become the
world's leading manufacturer of ventilators and performed 100 million
tests. Several vaccine candidates are in the final stage of testing.
A few points: It was the Trump administration that shut down the
PREDICT virus breakout detection program last fall.
I realize this is an election year, but that statement seems uh,
grievously misleading.
PREDICT was a ten year project initiated in 2009 and "led by the UC
Davis One Health Institute, and core partners include USAID, EcoHealth
Alliance, Metabiota, Wildlife Conservation Society, and Smithsonian
Institution."
https://ohi.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/programs-projects/predict-project
It's purpose -- "to strengthen health security and global capacity for
the detection and discovery of viruses of pandemic potential that can
move between animals and people.. It's ten year cycle ended in
September 2019, but received a six month extension which ended in
March 2020."
And then on April 1st, just a few days later, it was again
extended. ...
"April 03, 2020

PREDICT will provide emergency support to other countries for outbreak
response including technical support for early detection of SARS
CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease COVID-19, through a six-month
extension from the U.S. Agency for International Development, or
USAID, effective April 1."

Are you really claiming that the Trump administration is supporting
international cooperation to combat COVID-19?
My post exposed your inaccurate bullshit, but since you bring it up,
Trump DID renew PREDICT, an international project, and his
administration is engaged in extensive international cooperation and
research on COVID-19 ...
"Transatlantic Cooperation on COVID-19
As President Trump has said, the United States is working with our
friends and partners around the world to coordinate our efforts on
stopping the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States values
our cooperation with allies and partners in combating the pandemic and
in planning for our collective recovery. In addition to the
leadership of the President and Secretary of State with their G7, G20,
NATO and other counterparts, Deputy Secretary of State Stephen E.
Biegun has led weekly deputy minister-level coordination calls with
Transatlantic Allies and partners since March 19, including the
European Commission."

Etc.
The US problem with the WHO and it's COVAX is due to the WHO's
continuing unhealthy relationship with China. The WHO refuses to admit
Taiwan as a member state, and since 2017 will not even allow them to
participate as an observer, and ...
"There's evidence that China covered up the coronavirus's spread,
muzzled whistleblowers, intimidated doctors, misled the WHO, and
blocked outside health experts. China knew by late 2019 that
human-to-human transmission was occurring, but on Jan. 14, the WHO
tweeted: Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of
human-to-human transmission.

Post by islanderPost by El CastorPost by islanderThe most important
implication of this is that it removed US liaison scientists from Wuhan
at a critical time for early detection of COVID-19. The Trump
administration has made no attempt to reestablish this program despite
the fact that we fully expect more SARS-CoV outbreaks in the future.
Secondly, the national stockpile of ventilators would have been
sufficient to stop the virus if applied early enough, but we were very
late to recognize the danger and the shortages of PPE, especially masks
for the general population needed to be applied very early while the
spread could still be contained (Hell, we didn't even have enough PPE
for health care workers). Thirdly, the travel bans had so many
exceptions that they were largely ineffective. As to testing, 100
million tests are not very useful if it takes too long to get results
and even worse, not useful if contact tracing and quarantine are not
strictly enforced. Finally, the rush to reopen businesses before we
reached baseline cases was guaranteed to produce another surge. If you
haven't been keeping track, the number of cases is once again increasing
at a 17% rate over the past 14 days and deaths are increasing at 5%.
Things are worse throughout the mid-west, especially Wisc., Mo., Tenn.,
and Iowa.
