I forwarded this to the Facebook page where we originally learnt of her
death, and today her nephew has commented:

her raisins. She was prescient."

:-)
Had I ever had the fortune to know her, I would have suggested a
shortcut; soaking the raisins in ten year old Scotch.
I'm so suggestible I shall have to try it now.

Ah. Oh well, if that's what you're going to do ... I'm not wasting any
of my single malts on this experiment, but I might have to go and see
what else we have in the cupboard.

With all due deference to Truly, I have to say that this is a waste of
good whisky.

In these parts you can buy the same for many different spirits,
cognac, armagnac, grand marnier, etc.
Modified too, by having salt and pepper already added.

For restaurant use, mostly,

How can you know if you haven't tried?

First you have to determine whether it is good whisky in the first place.
If it's a blended scotch, 10 years in the cask is a bit unusual, and
it could be a good drink, though it's not guaranteed.

If it's a single malt, 10 years old is completely standard; it is the
entry-level age for most single malts. It could be good, it could be rotgut.

Oh, I tried. But I only got halfway through the job before the bottle
was empty.

I can't stand whisky of any description. "Truly" is a great name - perhaps
a misspelling of "Trudy"?

Nope. Go back to the original thread ('Sad news ...', 18 December or
