That was the caption of the article in the Herald by Rico. In this article
Rico says quote In the recent debate on Goanet, the largest Goa-linked
mailing-list, the first salvo came from Moira-based headmaster Tony de Sa.
He penned a missive titled ?From one RG to another, an open letter? [
http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/]. unquote.

I can gather that the posts on this topic and its offshoots have not found
favour with certain posters on Goanet.

At this juncture, I would like to emphasize my stand and that of many other
Goans like me. We are not against NRGs per se and I have said time and
again, we certainly appreciate the work done by many NRGs who as Vivian says
work and donate silently. Vivian says quote I sincerely hope we can stop
this labelling game, as we are all Goenkars, and our hearts and sympathies
are with mother Goa unquote I am sure most Niz Goenkars would echo this
sentiment. What I personally and I am sure many like me decry is the
patronizing, supercilious, know it all Non Resident Goenkar. Not all of us
who live in Goa are ignoramuses not all of us hanker for that gift, money or
visa that is dangled in front of the local Goan nor do we appreciate show
offs among the foren returned Goans who try to impress us with money power.
Most of all we do not want the gratuitous advice which is showered by hot
air balloons. Like telling us that Goa is a mess and change the system blah
blah blah ad nauseam.

Change the system yes. I would second that. How is the question. The single
Goan who can change the system is yet to be born. What is required is a
collective peoples movement - a wave. Given the ground situation and the
politics and the constitutional limitations, I do not see this possible for
quite a long time to come. Let's face facts. As a rule (and this is an
assumption which need not always be true), christaoes vote for the secular
parties and the hindus vote for the hindu leaning parties. Christaoes vote
secular in the hope that they will not be persecuted and will have a
Government that will favour or at least not harm them. Now if the so called
secular parties field rotters, aren't they forced to vote for the rotters?
Friend Floriano has tried to change the system, but with all his enthusiasm
and zeal, what is the nett result?

P A Sangma and Sharad Pawar tried to buck India's biggest secular party and
the last election left egg on their faces.

Many of us have stayed in Goa even though there were opportunities to
migrate. This was a choice that we made. Many of us too have made silent
contributions to the state in terms of time, money, skills and talent. Many
of us have been in decision making bodies that have shaped things in Goa. Is
that not serving Goa?

I would like to end this by echoing Vivians words that I have quoted above.

Vivian was right. However you have just made up a stand out of thin air. It was you and Samir who suddenly emerged from your dank hideouts to furiously attack any NRG with foreign citizenship who wanted to do something for Goa, which is the only reason I got involved to draw your fire.

For your nauseum, take a pill with some kanji. What you appreciate or not is your problem. You should have thought about that before you joined Samir's attack in "foren" NRGs. Are we supposed to appreciate your attacks?

I don't think Carmen, Rajan, Arwin, Anil, etc. are spending their valuable time and money to impress you or anyone else.

How, indeed. A useless question, in my "foren" NRG opinion. The last time I checked it was corruption that was the problem, not the "system" of government in Goa.

Good. If you really mean this quit your attacks on "foren" NRGs and join those of them who want to help in Goa. You could have taken issue with Samir's attacks long a ago, but, instead, you joined him and wasted our time and energy and deflected attention from the real problems in Goa.

------------ GL responds:

Hi Tony,

Eureka!?Found the single Goan who changed the Goan system?... for five minutes, ... while?SHE was?in amchem bangarachem Goem.

True story!? My niece?immigrated to America at age 8.? For the first time, last summer the?now bank-VP, returned to Goa with her American-born fiancee. You have heard the refrain "Difficult to find good Goan boys"? The young couple? met and paid their respects to her grandmother and saw her ancestral home in your neighborhood - Aldona.??Finacee was?impressed with house construction in Goa -?"built solid of stone instead of wood-studs and drywall."

They rented a motorcycle for a chakar?around scenic Goa.? At one beach they parked their motorbike and took a stroll to the water.? On their return,?a man standing by their bike told them, they were "parked in a no-parking zone ....? need to pay a fine .... lucky the motorbike is not towed."

My niece said, "There was no No-Parking sign ....?would pay the fine, to avoid problems ... please show his police credentials ... give us a receipt ....? want to stop at police station to explain to the chief-officer their innocence."?

They were let-go with a final warning.? After the man left, residents from near-by homes came and told them, "the guy is not a police-officer and was?an extortionist / blackmailing them, like he does many other tourists."

Questions:

Is this man's behavior?good for Goa and its tourism image?
Were locals?entertained by the tamasha / crime?(which they?do many-a-time) and only show up after the fact??
Solitary person?holding innocent tourists?and entire neighborhood hostage?
Does?he encourage tourists?to stop - have a meal at a local restaurant or buy souvenirs at village stores (thereby helping the?village economy)?
Do?locals need?Panaji govt to do something?for these pesky criminals, which a 23-yr old female NRG can tackle; but locals are hesitant to address as they are not victims?

You do not have to be defensive or?respond.? This post is?to give you some feed-back, (which I?wanted to do since last summer); because we love Goa and want you-all to be successful.? We have our own neighborhood problems.

Change the system yes. I would second that. How is the question. The single Goan who can change the system is yet to be born.

What is required is a collective peoples movement - a wave.?Given the ground situation and the politics and the constitutional limitations, I do not see this possible for quite a long time to come. Let's face facts.

How, indeed. A useless question, in my "foren" NRG opinion. The last time I checked it was corruption that was the problem, not the "system" of government in Goa.

Put up candidates who are not rotters, like Floriano, then rally support to get him elected. Easier said than done, but you have no alternative.

If Floriano has been trying to "change the system" he is wasting his time.

I don't think Carmen, Rajan, Arwin, Anil, etc. are spending their valuable time and money to impress you or anyone else.

Tony wrote:

Change the system yes. I would second that. How is the question.

Mario responds:

How, indeed. A useless question, in my "foren" NRG opinion. The last time I checked it was corruption that was the problem, not the "system" of government in Goa.

Tony wrote:

Now if the so called secular parties field rotters, aren't they forced to vote for the rotters? Friend Floriano has tried to change the system, but with all his enthusiasm and zeal, what is the nett result?

Mario responds:

Put up candidates who are not rotters, like Floriano, then rally support to get him elected. Easier said than done, but you have no alternative.

If Floriano has been trying to "change the system" he is wasting his time.

Tony wrote:

P A Sangma and Sharad Pawar tried to buck India's biggest secular party and
the last election left egg on their faces.

Mario responds:

Tell them I said to wipe off the egg and get back in the game. Richard Nixon, who had his share of egg on his face, said, "You are not a failure if you lose, only if you quit."

Tony wrote:

Many of us have stayed in Goa even though there were opportunities to
migrate. This was a choice that we made. Many of us too have made silent
contributions to the state in terms of time, money, skills and talent. Many
of us have been in decision making bodies that have shaped things in Goa. Is that not serving Goa?

Mario responds:

Yes it is, and for that we "foren" NRGs thank you.

Tony wrote:

I would like to end this by echoing Vivians words that I have quoted above.

Mario responds:

Good. If you really mean this quit your attacks on "foren" NRGs and join those of them who want to help in Goa. You could have taken issue with Samir's attacks long a ago, but, instead, you joined him and wasted our time and energy and deflected attention from the real problems in Goa.

BTW, when are you and Wendell going to see the Sarpanch in Carmona?

------------- Tony de Sa - Moira-based headmaster!

Change the system yes. I would second that. How is the question. The single Goan who can change the system is yet to be born.

What is required is a collective peoples movement - a wave.?Given the ground situation and the politics and the constitutional limitations, I do not see this possible for quite a long time to come. Let's face facts.

Regards, GL

Heh, heh, heh what confrontation? Just free advice from someone who has no
or minimal contribution to Goa and which is not wanted!

Why is Goveia using Arwin, Rajan, Carmen, etc for a crutch? Note the
reference to others who were spending their time and money. Looks like
scrooge doesn't want to spend any of it and is only dropping names to try
and score points.

Besides the man sounds like he's squealing while being gang raped by the

well sit back and enjoy it.

And as I said earlier and and am saying again at the risk of repeating my

furious personal assault on all "foren" NRGs by Tony and Samir, especially
those who were actually spending their own time and money to address the

understood a word of the discussion, and is the kind of "foren" NRG who has
nothing constructive to add.

Mario observes:

Tony's sole contribution to Goa has been to join Samir in attacking "foren" NRGs.

Mario responds:

As an American first, I have clearly stated my limited interest in and contribution to Goa. I only got involved to confront you and Samir who had begun to attack "foren" NRGs.

If you understood what is written in these posts, which seems questionable based on your posts, you would know that I have philosophical differences with at least Carmen and Arwin, while still commending and supporting their actual interest in helping confront the mess in Goa at their own time and expense.

I mention these folks because they have actually done something for Goa and want to do more, while you and Samir decided to attack them for reasons that seem perverse to me, especially in your case, who hasn't done beans for Goa and has presided over the mess that developed under your nose.

At least Samir has stuck his neck out and confronted some of the corruption and has been wise enough to break off the destructive course he was on, which you still seem to be on.

You cannot even go to Carmona and confront the Sarpanch there.

One of them, who has done precious little for Goa while watching with glass
of feni in hand as the mess developed, ostentatiously claimed that "we and

Where then were "we and only we" since 1987?

Sudden modesty. Call a spade a spade and not a bloomin' shovel. I certainly
cant see you as an NRG who admittedly has little interest and contribution

enjoy the imaginary gripes that NRGs like you have about Goa. Why make 1987
the cut off date? Why not 19 dec 1961?

Have a nice day while you gripe some more.

Mario observes:

I looked in vain in the response above to get even a glimmer of what Tony has done for Goa. In the meantime, we have all seen how he joined in Samir's wanton attack on NRGs who want to help Goa, for no rhyme or reason.

Mario previously wrote:

Tony wrote:

Mario responds:

No, "limited" is not an overstatement, especially when compared with what Tony has not done for Goa after having lived there throughout the developing mess.

His reference to "second class" clearly shows his ignorance about Indians in the US. He probably thinks we are like he was under the Portuguese.

Tony wrote:

Mario responds:

Why not? I see it every year and it's getting worse, not better, all a growing mess that has developed right under your "unlimited" interest, but "non-existent" contributions to Goa.

Mario previously wrote:

Mario responds:

Of course you cannot attack them for their contributions especially when compared with your own. However, you attacked them as NRGs, after Samir attacked them as "foren" NRGs. If you hadn't, you would not have heard from me on this subject.

Tony wrote:

If the gripes were imaginary Goa would be a heaven on Earth. As a resident of Goa, you seem completely oblivious to all the mess that has been vividly described by Rajan, Samir, Arwin, Carmen, Venita and others. That has to be the effect of all that feni. You don't even seem to understand the significance of 1987, when Goa became a state after being a Union Territory since January 1962. Between 1962 and 1987 the Indian government brought Goa out of the dark ages in much of its infrastructure.

You need to wise up. The hopping around we are seeing from you is because you don't have a good leg to stand on.

Heh, heh, heh what confrontation? Just free advice from someone who has no

Why is Goveia using Arwin, Rajan, Carmen, etc for a crutch? Note the
reference to others who were spending their time and money. Looks like
scrooge doesn't want to spend any of it and is only dropping names to try

Besides the man sounds like he's squealing while being gang raped by the

Anyone who has followed this unnecessary firefight, where I confronted a
furious personal assault on all "foren" NRGs by Tony and Samir, especially
those who were actually spending their own time and money to address the
problems in Goa, should be able to tell that this poster has either not
understood a word of the discussion, and is the kind of "foren" NRG who has

Heh, heh, heh what confrontation? Just free advice from someone who has no

One of them, who has done precious little for Goa while watching with glass
of feni in hand as the mess developed, ostentatiously claimed that "we and
only we" - referring to RGs - could fix what is wrong with Goa. Oh, really?
Where then were "we and only we" since 1987?

Sudden modesty. Call a spade a spade and not a bloomin' shovel. I certainly
cant see you as an NRG who admittedly has little interest and contribution
to Goa do nuts about Goa. Gas less do and do more! We RGs enjoy our feni and
enjoy the imaginary gripes that NRGs like you have about Goa. Why make 1987
the cut off date? Why not 19 dec 1961?

Have a nice day while you gripe some more.

Now why dont you come clean and tell everybody that you have transformed
yourself from an NRG to a VG [1].
Tony de Sa clearly states his phone number in every email. Why dont you
borrow a phone or some airtime from one of your friends/relatives and call
Tony and invite him to Miramar for a snack at your favorite MP bhayya's
stall? Perhaps a Pani-Puri. Perhaps Shenzi could help you with that
phonecall....or maybe convince you to attend a Gram Sabha in your ancestral

This NRG / RG discussion is going nowhere. You be careful now, your favorite

Tony wrote:

I can with legitimate pride say I can definitely be the President of India if I so desire.

Mario responds:

This from a Moidekar who cannot even go to Carmona to talk to the Sarpanch as Arwin requested.

Tony wrote:

And assomeone with limited interest and contribution should the gent be gassing away about Goa's imaginary problems as perceived by him?

Mario responds:

Why not? I see it every year and it's getting worse, not better, all a growing mess that has developed right under your "unlimited" interest, but "non-existent" contributions to Goa.

Mario previously wrote:

Mario responds:

Of course you cannot attack them for their contributions especially when compared with your own. However, you attacked them as NRGs, after Samir attacked them as "foren" NRGs. If you hadn't, you would not have heard from me on this subject.

Tony wrote:

By the same token I can make a wild accusation that you are responsible for the financial mess that the U S of A is in.

especially in your case, who hasn't done beans for Goa and has presided
over the mess that developed under your nose.

Continue to wallow in your ignorant bliss. I do not have to publicly boast
about what I have done about Goa but it certainly is way, way much more than
you have confessed yourself. Presided over the (imaginary) mess? In what
capacity? CM / Minister/ Party President? By the same token I can make a
wild accusation that you are responsible for the financial mess that the U S
of A is in. And much more while you are twiddling your thumbs living off the
fat of the land.

I think I have mush more credibility on this and other issues than someone
who has become a living example of Pinocchio, as the archives will confirm.

I am the man who caught the thief and you are trying to catch the man who

Just free advice from someone who has no or minimal contribution
to Goa and which is not wanted!
As an American first, I have clearly stated my limited interest in
and contribution to Goa. I only got involved to confront you and
Samir who had begun to attack "foren" NRGs.
RESPONSE: Since the "foren" NRGs have largely remained silent, Mario, you
are taking up cudgels where none are required.
Perhaps Shenzi could help you with that
phonecall....or maybe convince you to attend a Gram Sabha in your ancestral
village....wink-wink.

This NRG / RG discussion is going nowhere. You be careful now, your favorite
MP bhayya has made good use of his Nokia N900 - taken photos of you stuffing
your face with his fare!!!

Mario observes:

I looked in vain in the response above to get even a glimmer of what Tony has done for Goa. In the meantime, we have all seen how he joined in Samir's wanton attack on NRGs who want to help Goa, for no rhyme or reason.

Mario previously wrote:

As an American first, I have clearly stated my limited interest in and

Tony wrote:

"Limited" is overstatement isn't it? American? Second class, yes.

Mario responds:

No, "limited" is not an overstatement, especially when compared with what Tony has not done for Goa after having lived there throughout the developing mess.

His reference to "second class" clearly shows his ignorance about Indians in the US. He probably thinks we are like he was under the Portuguese.

I mention these folks because they have actually done something for Goa and

Mario responds:

Of course you cannot attack them for their contributions especially when compared with your own. However, you attacked them as NRGs, after Samir attacked them as "foren" NRGs. If you hadn't, you would not have heard from me on this subject.

Tony wrote:

By the same token I can make a wild accusation that you are responsible for the financial mess that the U S of A is in.

Mario responds:

No, you can't,because I am actively fighting against the mess that Obama has created and working to send him home to Chicago after 2012.

Tony wrote:

Mario responds:

Besides the man sounds like he's squealing while being gang raped by the
notorious Tony and Samir. Free advice: If you have to be raped, you might as
well sit back and enjoy it.

And as I said earlier and and am saying again at the risk of repeating my
self, Mario is at work again trying to tell his of repeated lies.

The bottom line is "Tuen tor Goenche passot xent bhor kitem kellam zalear

Anyone who has followed this unnecessary firefight, where I confronted a
furious personal assault on all "foren" NRGs by Tony and Samir, especially
those who were actually spending their own time and money to address the
problems in Goa, should be able to tell that this poster has either not
understood a word of the discussion, and is the kind of "foren" NRG who has
nothing constructive to add.
