Only be cause under Labour we've been importing record amounts of coal rather than supporting our own mines!

https://www.stuff.co.nz/environment/climate-news/300356959/new-zealand-imported-more-than-a-million-tonnes-of-dirty-coal-last-year

It sort of destroys the governments claim of a climate emergency when they import over a million tonnes! Funny how last time this happened we also had a Labour government!!

Wondering how rich will spin this one. I'm betting he'll just stay under his bridge as he usually does for my posts :)

Labour/Green and hypocrisy go hand in hand! After all we haven't heard a peep from the Greens about using coal since they got into bed with Jacinda!!!

Yes it's a very good question as to why they aren't using the coal
from the mines at Huntly..

A better one is why declare a "climate emergency" while importing one of the worst polluting coals ;)

As I understand it. We import coal for Huntly as it is better for burning in
power stations and export the coal which is good for steel making. Of course
this probably is also cheaper.

(Coal puts the carbon into the steel, which makes it stronger and more
ductile than iron.)

Huntly power station was built where it is so they could use the Huntly coal and according to Google Earth still does :)
There is a pipeline a mine and the power station and though coal is supposedly delivered to Huntly by train from Tauranga and truck from Ports of Auckland there is no direct line to the power station.
