From memory, the original game was horribly unplayable ... but at least
it should make a good match with what will likely be a horribly
unwatchable TV series.

Westworld Creators Adapting Fallout TV Series for Amazon
--------------------------------------------------------
Deadline (via GameRevolution) is reporting that Westworld
creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are developing a
Fallout TV series adaptation for Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon Studios acquired the rights to the game and have
given a series commitment to the project. You can check
out a short teaser below!

Teaser Trailer: (23secs)

The world of Fallout is one where the future envisioned
by Americans in the late 1940s explodes upon itself
through a nuclear war in 2077. In Fallout, the harshness
of the wasteland is set against the previous generation's
utopian idea of a better world through nuclear energy. It
is serious in tone, yet sprinkled with moments of ironic
humor and B-movie-nuclear-fantasies.

"Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time,"
said Kilter Films' Joy and Nolan. "Each chapter of this
insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we
could have spent with family and friends. So we're
incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the
rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this
massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life
with Amazon Studios."

"Fallout is an iconic global franchise, with legions of
fans worldwide and a rich, deeply compelling storyline
that powers it. And Jonah and Lisa are the perfect
storytellers to bring this series to life," said Albert
Cheng, COO and Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios.
"We're thrilled to join with Bethesda to bring Fallout to
television."

"Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring
Fallout to the screen," added Howard, Executive Producer
at Bethesda Game Studios. "But it was clear from the
moment I first spoke with Jonah and Lisa a few years ago,
that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it
right. We're enormous fans of their work and couldn't be
more excited to work with them and Amazon Studios."

The Fallout franchise has posted record sales and has
received dozens of Game of the Year Awards. Its mobile
game, Fallout Shelter, has been downloaded more than
170 million times.

Fallout is from Amazon Studios and Kilter Films in
association with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda
Softworks, with executive producers Nolan and Joy, and
Athena Wickham for Kilter Films, Todd Howard for Bethesda
Game Studios, and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.

So the idealistic view of nuclear power of the late 40's plays what part in it if it's set in 2077? I figure by then our children will all be living a subsistence agrarian serf lifestyle, courtesy of greenloons and leftist dictators.

Sort-of like Steampunk is a future using Victorian-like steam-based
technology, Fallout is set in 2077 but using a tech-style that 1940s
people thought the future would have.

In Fallout the first transistors enter the market in 2023. The United
had a three-tiered federalism with 13 commonwealths in between the
states and the federal government. The first human in space was Captain
Carl Bell in 1961. The most popular brand of soft drink is Nuka-Cola so
called because nuclear power is overwhelmingly popular with Americans

Nope. I remember dying so many times that I gave up on the rubbish
after less than 30 minutes.

Which one are we talking about? I could see him having issues with the
first two as they were straight RPG games. With the third game that
changed as you could use the RPG aspects or go with more of a straight
shooter aspect. It certainly made the game more friendly for people
who weren't coming from an RPG background. I've put in more hours than
I can count to Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. I own the 4th but
haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

There's certainly a lot that they can use to build a series around.
Let's hope that if this becomes a real series that they do the world
justice.

I'm certain it was the very original game and it had a disgustingly bad
control system, which made it basically unplayable, but possibly wasn't
helped by my computer at the time being a bit old and slow.

Was it a full on 3D game or more a mixed mode side view game like
this:

That's the original Fallout game. I'm not sure the game would have
been slow as it wasn't really designed to put a load on any system of
the time but I could see the game controls being hard to learn.

Yep, that's the game. I remember those caves with the creatures in the
second picture. The controls weren't so much hard to learn as
[BEEP]ingly awful to attempt to use, which meant constantly getting
killed by the baddies.
