Prince Henrik spits the dummy

I don't understand this guy. In all the monarchies that I'm aware of, the husband of a queen regnant is a prince, or equivalent, and thus not equal in rank to his wife. This is probably outdated and old fashioned in a more "equal" world but until it changes, that is how it is (Spain seems to be a little more progressive). It's all about convention. He must have known this when he got married and to be so petulant about it all these years later is such a waste of energy, apart from the distress it must cause Queen Margrethe. There must have been king consorts in the past but I wonder if European monarchies will ever come to such a radical change as a matter of course?

On a different but related topic, that of gender equality in the various UK peerages, I am intrigued by the Equality (Titles) Bill, which was an attempt to equalise the situation but it attracted fierce opposition, which seems hypocritical, given the change to the law of royal succession.

Margrethe did after all award the "Count of Monpezat" title to her 2 sons and their descendants a few years ago, and one would think that Henrik would be satisfied with that dignified gesture.. Her failure to elevate her husband to any higher title is in accord with tradition, and doesn't indicate any lack of respect. Henrik would be well-advised to maintain his composure and refrain from any further statements about the whereabouts of his eventual gravesite, lest she lose patience with him, and, when the time comes, have him cremated.

THE GEMl follows immediatelynhis spouse then only the Crownprince, obviously he has a lower rank despite beeing the Crownprince

Except that almost all the remaining benighted "monarchies" have changed tradition, and changed the position of women. Henrik wants some equality. What is good for the goose should be good for the gander.
