I don't see truth, accurate fact assessment, correct accountability
calling and honest reflection where Bush is concerned, as "sniveling"
unless it is done so in an overly emotional manner unaccompanied by
checkable facts.

This nation is *imperiled* financially and to set the record straight
before people lacking in integrity leap to twist it into a lie*, Mr.
Obama had nothing to do with getting the U.S. where it is.

I'd like to know why oil is down to $38/bbl and gas prices have been
inching up at the pump. There are people at Morgan Stanley who need a

FWIW, *I* hope he is successful and wish him all the luck
in the universe in achieving that end.

My point is that more than a few of the same people who have
been incessantly crying about every move that President Bush
has made since he was elected will turn on President Obama as
soon as he attempts to implement policy that offends thier

I'd like to know why oil is down to $38/bbl and gas prices have been
inching up at the pump. There are people at Morgan Stanley who need a
bullet in the back of their heads, asap.

Some talking face on the tube suggested that the whole oil price
runup of the last severl years was not a result of normal supply

the US. There's also no inherent reason why the production and distribution
of energy needs to be accompanied by excessive profit and artificially

That's a good cite but it is from the WSJ and you don't need a crystal ball
to know which side of the debate they're going to land on. Their news
reporting is pretty good but when they get close to op-ed they're somewhat
to the right of Attila the Hun. They don't bother to mention that McCain's
campaign manager was a lobbyist for Freddie and Fannie who was taking big
bucks from them right into the final stages of the campaign, an odd omission
considering they figure Obama's relationship with those firms is a big deal,
isn't it?

However I agree that Obama's repeated accusations about McCain being in
favor of Bush's deregulation were weak. The reality is that most of the
deregulation had already been done before Bush took office, as I mentioned
some of it was signed by a guy named Clinton who to this day defends that

too much to lose (and absolutely nothing to win) as well as way too
little to clearly define the intellectual battleground. The mass of a
greying US people would *not* willingly draw oceans of _internal_ blood
and any counter to the existing D.o.D. couldn't *possibly* last 15
seconds. Please.

That's much of why I take the position I do, on the longer term
potential for yet another enormous external war. External entities
against which America's energy can be directed against offer her both a
unifying internal opportunity (the enemy of my enemy becomes my
freind...human nature 101)as well as the clear lesson about how the
depression was REALLY ended by...WWII.

Lastly, I truly don't think that at top-most levels, either China,
Russia nor the U.S. would EVER go nuclear, but WOULD willingly feed a
meat grinder to stabilize their own internal political instabilities.
China has SERIOUS potential for that sort of thing as that nation's
PLA vs. PRC & have-cities vs. have-not peasants reach critical mass.

Russia is a backwater, thoroughly corrupt mess with everything to gain
by feeding local meatgrinders to keep her people semi-mollified.

My guess is that we've entered a long-term down and stagnant economic

That presumes a monolithic mindset amongst the military that
probably doesn't exist. The individuals who make up the armed
service are subject to the same differences that divide the
civilian population. If our society breaks down to the point

I think Obama will be granted an extended honeymoon. He will strike

I forsee an incredible rise in protectionism and nationalism which may

already severe polarization that exists among the population that

the volume of data generated is more than is possible to keep
track of in a way that would prevent anything nasty from happening
unless someone gets lucky and spots the needle in the haystack
before the fact. The system as deployed can help find out what
happened if needed, but that might not be enough in the case of

I'd like to know why oil is down to $38/bbl and gas prices have been
inching up at the pump. There are people at Morgan Stanley who need a
bullet in the back of their heads, asap.

Some talking face on the tube suggested that the whole oil price

I am not questioning that in the least.

My point is that more than a few of the same people who have
been incessantly crying about every move that President Bush

on their ass on the outgoing Administration.

Same thing happened to Clinton for the last 7-8 years.
My own brother who is one of those conservative
christian kooks actually believes people are gonna
go to hell because Clinton as president had an
extra-marital affair while in the whitehouse. Of course
he forgets the fact that the repugs made it a HUGE issue
out of it and tried to get him out of office because of it
even though it was none of their stinkin' business.

Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again now.

Beelzebubba brought that particular shitstorm on himself by trying
to sweep it under the rug and stonewall it.

If he'd had the stones to say something along the lines of
"Yeah, I bounced my nuts off her chin a few times, it felt
great. So what?" There'd have been the predictable howling
and clucking and it probably would have blown over.

Instead, he decided to lie about it even while under
oath and thereby gave his enemies the means to drag it out.

This nation is *imperiled* financially and to set the record straight

Obama had nothing to do with getting the U.S. where it is.

IMO, he shares blame with the rest of Congress for enabling the

I'd like to know why oil is down to $38/bbl and gas prices have been

Documentation? That sounds like the kind of story that thrives in the
blogosphere but doesn't survive serious examination.

As for Bush, that's the most animated I've ever seen him, he seemed
genuinely angry a couple of times, at other moments reporters couldn't get
their questions out because Bush was cracking jokes. What is truly bizarre
is that he still doesn't get it, he still figures the federal response to
Katrina was pretty good, he still thinks invading Iraq was the right thing
to do even though he was "disappointed" Saddam didn't have any WMDs, he
still thinks America's reputation around the world is good with only a few
sourpuss European countries being unhappy with America's actions in recent
years. And clearly he believes the press was always out to get him
regardless of what actions he took, as if the mountains of criticism of his
administration from all directions (including from plenty of conservatives)
was all just partisan liberal spin. The man only gave 47 press conferences
in eight years while Obama has done 13 since being elected, the Bush
administration ignored the press whenever possible, but he can't figure out
why relations with the press were often so cold, astonishing. He's truly an
amazing character, captain of the Titanic still denying he did anything
really wrong as the icy water is closing over his head, unbelievable.

CV with Brown's. Notice the difference in scale and achievement. One is a
former White House Chief of Staff, former member of Congress, former
distinguished university professor. The other used to run an organization
that overseas judges at horse shows until they ran him off, requiring him to
pad his resume with fake experience. See the difference?

I watched a couple of former CIA officers discussing this matter with
Charlie Rose the other day, politically quite different, but they agreed
some of the best CIA directors have been superb administrators rather than
people with intelligence experience. Look at it this way, who would you
rather have running a hospital, an excellent administrator who knows budgets
and staffing and logistics? Or a doctor who can't balance his own
checkbook? Which would make more sense?

stashed away someplace. The justification for a war that has killed over

So take your pick, either they were too incompetent to judge the

I've forgotten no such thing, Saddam was an evil rat-bastard, but that isn't
the issue. One of the main sources for intel that Saddam was working on new
WMDs was "Curveball," a man German intelligence warned Washington was an
alcoholic compulsive liar not to be relied on. So how did the Bush
administration react to that? They sent Colin Powell to the UN to repeat
Curveball's lies word for word, they treated him as a certified solid-gold

What did we win, please explain that. We lost a bunch of dead soldiers,
we've pissed away trillions of dollars, most of the world distrusts America,
Iran has been given a huge boost, and the relative level of violence today
has been obtained not by "The Surge" but by arming local Sunni tribal
leaders in effect turning them into warlords who have been bribed to fight
Al Qaeda instead of the American Army. As one commentator put it, it's like
the cops paying the Crips to fight the Bloods. And the govt. of Iraq is
still a joke, the Kurds consider themselves a separate nation, there is no
political settlement and everybody is looking over their shoulder wondering
what Iran will do, some victory.

What don't you get? Bush told *everyone* to evacuate. The school
busses were ready to evacuate the poor (blacks, Blum etc.), but the
black leadership demanded luxury bus liners with A/C etc. Instead,
Nagin decided to hole them up at the stadium and the busses were
flooded. IT WAS ALL LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S FAULT after that. If they had
listened to Bush in the first place, there would have been no idiots
(Blum etc.) stuck in their flooded house or at the Superdome.

The Federal Gov can't do much if you don't follow the playbook. Oh,

Everyone agrees, Saddam would have resumed his research once given the

I think you are drawing a great deal of inference from the use of a
word. This is one sharp mother we're talking about. I took
the use of the word as a very imprecise term used to describe
