When he got talking about how "we maintained a light hearted atmosphere"

I thought of the parents of dead troops watch/listening to him say that.

I thought of life-wounded troops sitting in a shitty VA watch/listening

The US economy is in a free fall. This abortion is JUST getting started.

He thinks he "protected the homeland". Know what the USSR's age-old
propaganda term for itself was? The Rodina, or "motherland". This
is an idiot who "looked into Putin's eyes and "saw his soul". Trusted
him. WHAT a...

It's called America. The United States. That sociopathic fool. Good
riddance. Obama is inheriting a 100% no-win. He's a destined 1 termer
at this point, because patience is not a

Rising protectionism, rising nationalism -count on 'em.

China will be eyeing Taiwan at some point, despite today's smiles...

Nice cut-and-snip job, Muleass. I saw that on "Rick Sanchez" as well
on CNN.

Here's the real story -

The reporter asked him "It was never the "loneliest office in the
world" for you?"

Bush responded and acknowledged sympathy for the troops -
"No, not for me. We had a -- people -- we -- I had a fabulous team
around me of highly dedicated, smart, capable people, and we had fun.
I tell people that, you know, some days happy, some days not so happy,
every day has been joyous. And people, they say, I just don't believe
it to be the case. Well, it is the case. Even in the darkest moments
of Iraq, you know, there was -- and every day when I was reading the
reports about soldiers losing their lives, no question there was a lot
of emotion, but also there was times where we could be light-hearted
and support each other."

I wonder how families of dead soldiers feel when they read libs like
you take quotes out of context and use their son's and daughter's
deaths to promote their sick and twisted agenda?

Remember the last time your buddy Rick Sanchez said no leaders shook
Bush's hand, when later it was learned he had already shook them
twice?

Yeah, kinda like Jaws 2 - the sequel never lives up to the hype:

Vietnam - 60,000 US dead
Iraq - 4200 US dead

"Oh my God, it's Vietnam!" - Typical lib on every war after 1975.

Er, the similarity, doofus, is that it's a war we had no business
getting involved in in the first place. It accomplished no goals
except the death of American troops, a whole bunch of Iraquis, and the
spread of of al Khaida into areas it wasn't in beforehand.

LOL - WW2 was a "war". The Civil War was a "war". I gues they are like
Vietnam as well? LOL

Last time I checked Saddam invaded and pillaged Kuwait, signed a
truce, then broke 18 UN resolutions, was defeated in about two weeks
by the US and later hung for crimes and his government replaced with a
US sanctioned governement - JUST LIKE IN VIETNAM!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Apparently, there was so little interest in W's final press conference, the
White House had to fill the rows of empty seats with office interns
(what--so W wouldn't feel bad?!?!).

They'd been planning a big crowd--standing room, only.

What's even more funny is it's not true. More lies from Muleasses'
sidekick, Pritchturd.

Just did a Yahoo and Google check for Bush's press conference and not
one mentioned the words "empty seats" or "interns".

It's a shame these guys are still so sour and bitter when they shold
be happy about the magic negro gaining power next week. LOL.

Meanwhile, the Bush press conference was the top story on most news
stations and thousands of news articles are already on the net:

Over 391 photos so far of press conference:
http://news.search.yahoo.com/search/news?p=bush+press+conference&c=&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-501&c=images

Bush's final news conference was bigger than Carter's and Clinton's
last combined.

First 100 stories from Yahoo (from thousands), representing every
major city in the world, not one mentioning empty seats. Sore loser
Pritchturd takes it up the ass... again!

Claude, Mr. Obama will do all he possibly can do to turn this disaster
in the making around.

I don't see truth, accurate fact assessment, correct accountability
calling and honest reflection where Bush is concerned, as "sniveling"
unless it is done so in an overly emotional manner unaccompanied by
checkable facts.

This nation is *imperiled* financially and to set the record straight
before people lacking in integrity leap to twist it into a lie*, Mr.
Obama had nothing to do with getting the U.S. where it is.

I'd like to know why oil is down to $38/bbl and gas prices have been

I am not questioning that in the least.

FWIW, *I* hope he is successful and wish him all the luck
in the universe in achieving that end.

My point is that more than a few of the same people who have
been incessantly crying about every move that President Bush
has made since he was elected will turn on President Obama as
soon as he attempts to implement policy that offends thier
delicate sensibilities.

Most of the rest will continue their habitual attempts to
blame all the world's ills right down to the latest boil
on their ass on the outgoing Administration.

IMO, he shares blame with the rest of Congress for enabling the

Some talking face on the tube suggested that the whole oil price
runup of the last severl years was not a result of normal supply
and demand but the result of speculation by a few fueled by easy
access to credit.

The mortgage bubble was also inflated by similar shenanigans.

Obama wasn't in federal office when the legislation that enabled this
disaster was passed, that goes back to Carter, Reagan and Clinton. He also
can't be assigned responsibility for govt. agencies that are run by the
executive branch, so even after he became a federal Senator it isn't his
fault if the SEC ignored reports about for example Bernie Madoff (as they
did under both Clinton and Bush 43). Congress as a whole deserves plenty of
blame, but that was largely before Obama's time.

disaster was passed, that goes back to Carter, Reagan and Clinton. He also
can't be assigned responsibility for govt. agencies that are run by the
executive branch, so even after he became a federal Senator it isn't his
fault if the SEC ignored reports about for example Bernie Madoff (as they
did under both Clinton and Bush 43). Congress as a whole deserves plenty of
blame, but that was largely before Obama's time.
Obama's been a sitting Senator and was apparently more concerned with climbing
the ladder than paying attention to the post-2006 "encouragement" from the
Congress to hand out mortgages to the unqualified that is a contributing
factor. Of course, that can't be pinned on him entirely, but he was there
and asleep at the switch as were many others.

IMO, he shares blame with the rest of Congress for enabling the
garbage mortgage situation that apparently was one of the main
causes of the crash. I certainly do not believe he was the only

Which post-2006 legislation are you referring to? Deregulation of the
financial industry started under Carter and continued up to Clinton, e.g.
the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the lifting of regulations on instruments
like credit default swaps, both of which had the enthusiastic support of
Republicans in Congress. Since Obama wasn't in the Senate then I'm curious
how he participated in encouraging subprime mortgages, unless you mean like
most members of Congress he did nothing to rein in the financial industry
when it appeared to be working so well. Enforcement is another issue, but
again the executive branch is in charge of that, the President appoints the
head of the SEC, not the Senate.

Here's one view of the situation...

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122212948811465427.html

"In light of the collapse of Fannie and Freddie, both John McCain
and Barack Obama now criticize the risk-tolerant regulatory regime
that produced the current crisis. But Sen. McCain's criticisms are
at least credible, since he has been pointing to systemic risks in
the mortgage market and trying to do something about them for
years. In contrast, Sen. Obama's conversion as a financial
reformer marks a reversal from his actions in previous years, when
he did nothing to disturb the status quo. The first head of Mr.
Obama's vice-presidential search committee, Jim Johnson, a former
chairman of Fannie Mae, was the one who announced Fannie's
original affordable-housing program in 1991 -- just as Congress
was taking up the first GSE regulatory legislation."

I am truly hopeful(and perhaps this is naive)that the next series of
'perp-walks' we witness are _______ ________ _________ Wall Streeters
involved in profiteering from OIL spikes.

As my (probable fantasy) hopes go as well, I would positively get hard
watching some sort of SERIOUS __________ hammer come down on every
insurance company and healthcare concern involved in the rape of
citizens, traceable to greed and evil (defined as the complete absence
of empathy). People suffering and dying because the company doesn't want
to impinge upon its profitability = lowering its stock price = lowering
executron bonuses.

It's *not* enough to call out the company. The _individual_ human beings
involved need to be dragged before mics and cameras so we can hear them
sad sack PRECISELY what we KNOW they will;

"I was just doing my job...it's the system".

What's really needed now is a wholesale mass movement toward individual
accountability (all BURIED by the 'Team Player' SHIT). A mass movement
towards an enlightenment exposing the individual and collective mass
destruction of people's souls. The re-ignition of REAL ethics and the
end of "RELATIVE MORALITY".

In addition to inflicting some sort of societal revenge on those
who have been extracting way more than their share of wealth from the
system IMO there needs to be some sort of updating of the definition
of what is necessary to survive in modern society. The production and
distribution of energy, food, basic shelter and adequate medical care
need to have the potential for greed removed somehow. I don't care how
much money someone makes by providing non-essentials like music or art,
but the time for the few being able to amass incredible wealth by
controlling that which is necessary for life needs to be over or the
guillotine *will* become stylish again.

Other countries have removed the profit aspect of providing healthcare
without the sky falling so there's no reason for that to not happen in
the US. There's also no inherent reason why the production and distribution
of energy needs to be accompanied by excessive profit and artificially
inflated costs.

That's part of what I meant earlier when I opined that the financial
system needed a low-level reformatting.

That's a good cite but it is from the WSJ and you don't need a crystal ball
to know which side of the debate they're going to land on. Their news
reporting is pretty good but when they get close to op-ed they're somewhat
to the right of Attila the Hun. They don't bother to mention that McCain's
campaign manager was a lobbyist for Freddie and Fannie who was taking big
bucks from them right into the final stages of the campaign, an odd omission
considering they figure Obama's relationship with those firms is a big deal,
isn't it?

However I agree that Obama's repeated accusations about McCain being in
favor of Bush's deregulation were weak. The reality is that most of the
deregulation had already been done before Bush took office, as I mentioned
some of it was signed by a guy named Clinton who to this day defends that
legislation. Try telling that to the average Democrat however, they'll ask
why you're defending that bastard Bush....

More like radically capricious.

You flip-flop in the wind with no concern for ethics in deference to
being considered on the 'win' side.

If you'd ever been adult enough to admit a position reversal, your
paper-bag-in-the-wind opinions might be worth considering. As it
is, they're not. mvm

Oh we all predict. It's risk free, fun and the nature of the whole
online game, c'mon.

I'll disagree with you there Claude- I think that there's an enormous
amount to be said for the extent to which the dynamic differences in
America's non-homogeneity add to her sheer energy potential. We are a
nation of tension forever looking for an outlet-- the challenge our
"leaders" have always had is to direct it in either a '-' or a '+'
direction.

Any U.S. Civil War II is not in the cards in my judgment. There's WAY
too much to lose (and absolutely nothing to win) as well as way too
little to clearly define the intellectual battleground. The mass of a
greying US people would *not* willingly draw oceans of _internal_ blood
and any counter to the existing D.o.D. couldn't *possibly* last 15
seconds. Please.

That's much of why I take the position I do, on the longer term
potential for yet another enormous external war. External entities
against which America's energy can be directed against offer her both a
unifying internal opportunity (the enemy of my enemy becomes my
freind...human nature 101)as well as the clear lesson about how the
depression was REALLY ended by...WWII.

Lastly, I truly don't think that at top-most levels, either China,
Russia nor the U.S. would EVER go nuclear, but WOULD willingly feed a
meat grinder to stabilize their own internal political instabilities.
China has SERIOUS potential for that sort of thing as that nation's
PLA vs. PRC & have-cities vs. have-not peasants reach critical mass.

Russia is a backwater, thoroughly corrupt mess with everything to gain
by feeding local meatgrinders to keep her people semi-mollified.

My guess is that we've entered a long-term down and stagnant economic
mess that will quietly build an explosive level of American energy. With
luck, it'll be directed into some sort of Made in USA re-birth not
accompanied by a massive war.

I just don't really see how the war part can be avoided, given both
history and human nature. I'd LOVE to be wrong on that score, -it's just
the way things have historically gone however...

Hopefully things won't get to the point of finding out who's right.

Well you're going to have to just trust me on this one Claude, because
I've been in the service:

The indoctrination process applied by the services is phenomenal. Ever
notice how cops bond together against civilians? Multiply that by
infinity to see the monolithic mentality of armed soldiers. Troops are
110% emptied of independent side-taking capacity: It's us vs, them and
you don't want to be 'them' when facing military men. The more I
say about this, the less substance stands to be conveyed.

That's much of why I take the position I do, on the longer term
potential for yet another enormous external war. External entities
against which America's energy can be directed against offer her both a
unifying internal opportunity (the enemy of my enemy becomes my
friend...human nature 101)as well as the clear lesson about how the
depression was REALLY ended by...WWII.
That's also entirely possible.
Post by The Tao Meister
Hopefully.
Post by The Tao Meister
I just don't really see how the war part can be avoided, given both
history and human nature. I'd LOVE to be wrong on that score, -it's just
the way things have historically gone however...
Violence *has* been the traditional way of resolving conflict.
------------
I'd even modify that to say it provides a temporary re-grouping for an
unbroken chain of continued conflict.

That presumes a monolithic mindset amongst the military that
probably doesn't exist. The individuals who make up the armed
service are subject to the same differences that divide the
civilian population. If our society breaks down to the point
of violence those individuals will follow their inclinations.
Hopefully things won't get to the point of finding out who's right.
------------
Well you're going to have to just trust me on this one Claude, because
The indoctrination process applied by the services is phenomenal. Ever
notice how cops bond together against civilians? Multiply that by
infinity to see the monolithic mentality of armed soldiers. Troops are
110% emptied of independent side-taking capacity: It's us vs, them and
you don't want to be 'them' when facing military men. The more I
say about this, the less substance stands to be conveyed.
-------------
And that still presumes a monolithic mindset amongst those who give the orders.

For every Colin Powell theres at least one Curtis LeMay.

Agreed.

I think that the mega-death of WWII landing Ike in the White House is
a good example of history as prelude.

One thing I think we can all agree upon is the remarkable shift that
occurred w/ 9/11/01. Suddenly, freedoms taken as normal were made to
appear as frivolous, swishy naivete in deference to a mass movement
acceptance of authoritarian rule under the banner of SECURITY. People
looked to the likes of Cheyney...

The people's true nature was then and there, forever exposed. The
"ideal" of 'freedom' took a fast _____ing backseat to NATIONAL SECURITY.
When push came to shove, fear won instantly.

I laugh at those who THINK Obama could _possibly_ repeal THAT aspect of
the Bush years as though it was just some sort of temporary tax. IMAGINE
the horror-howling and impeachment calls that would take place *if*
Obama say, diluted the shit out of the DHS or ended it and *THEN* some
sort of al Queda shan hit the fit.

It's just a hunch / imo, but I think al Q isn't likely to follow the
"headliner" of 9/11/01 with an "opening act". I am one of those who
believes that the next horror / 'shoe drop' will be greater in magnitude
than 9/11/01 was. They are reserving the ultimate horror for the US
(specifically NYC or DC) or Israel.

the volume of data generated is more than is possible to keep

True, although Moores law and a vested self-interest in the
self-propagation of a governmental bureaocracy on local, state

up the ultimate black hole in spending. As long term job security goes,

Some will switch and be whining about Obama before long.
Most will snivel about Bush until they waste their last breath.
Claude, Mr. Obama will do all he possibly can do to turn this disaster

I am not questioning that in the least.

My point is that more than a few of the same people who have
been incessantly crying about every move that President Bush
has made since he was elected will turn on President Obama as
soon as he attempts to implement policy that offends thier

Most of the rest will continue their habitual attempts to

Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again now.

Beelzebubba brought that particular shitstorm on himself by trying
to sweep it under the rug and stonewall it.

If he'd had the stones to say something along the lines of
"Yeah, I bounced my nuts off her chin a few times, it felt
great. So what?" There'd have been the predictable howling
and clucking and it probably would have blown over.

Great pun, no?

Instead, he decided to lie about it even while under
oath and thereby gave his enemies the means to drag it out.

Pretty stupid move for such a smart guy.

What's even more funny is it's not true. More lies from Muleasses'

Just did a Yahoo and Google check for Bush's press conference and not
one mentioned the words "empty seats" or "interns".
You fucking idiot.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/12/AR2009011203005.html

"The White House had high expectations for yesterday's final, historic
news conference. "ONE CORRESPONDENT PER ORGANIZATION," proclaimed the
bulletin sent to reporters. "STANDING ROOM ONLY FOR NON-SEAT HOLDERS."
But when the appointed hour of 9:15 a.m. arrived, the last two rows in
the seven-row briefing room were empty, and a press aide told White
House interns to fill those seats."

I just ran across something more--and, it's pretty funny, actually.
What's even more funny is it's not true. More lies from Muleasses'

Just did a Yahoo and Google check for Bush's press conference and not
one mentioned the words "empty seats" or "interns".
You fucking idiot.

I come up with hundreds or reports and not one mentions it, and you

*You* said it was all over the news.

Prove it.

Gee, the most hated White House correspondent, not even respected by
libs, spins a negative story and DickL takes it as gospel.

"It's all over the local news" - DickL

LOL

I guess you didn't catch the Rick Sanchez lie on CNN about no one
shaking Bush's hand?

Have you ever thought that maybe 35 journalists for a press conference
is pretty good, especially when only one person from each agency is
allowed?

Prove me wrong.

LOL, you have no idea. You're just going by what (surprise) number one
Bush-hater Dana (yes, spelled it the fag way) Milbank interprets.

LOL

No wonder you're so esily routed - back to the Huffington Post for
this lost and gullible lib!

I just ran across something more--and, it's pretty funny, actually.
Apparently, there was so little interest in W's final press
conference, the White House had to fill the rows of empty seats with
office interns (what--so W wouldn't feel bad?!?!).
They'd been planning a big crowd--standing room, only.
Doh!
Mike
Documentation? That sounds like the kind of story that thrives in the
blogosphere but doesn't survive serious examination.

As for Bush, that's the most animated I've ever seen him, he seemed
genuinely angry a couple of times, at other moments reporters couldn't get
their questions out because Bush was cracking jokes. What is truly bizarre
is that he still doesn't get it, he still figures the federal response to
Katrina was pretty good, he still thinks invading Iraq was the right thing
to do even though he was "disappointed" Saddam didn't have any WMDs, he
still thinks America's reputation around the world is good with only a few
sourpuss European countries being unhappy with America's actions in recent
years. And clearly he believes the press was always out to get him
regardless of what actions he took, as if the mountains of criticism of his
administration from all directions (including from plenty of conservatives)
was all just partisan liberal spin. The man only gave 47 press conferences
in eight years while Obama has done 13 since being elected, the Bush
administration ignored the press whenever possible, but he can't figure out
why relations with the press were often so cold, astonishing. He's truly an
amazing character, captain of the Titanic still denying he did anything
really wrong as the icy water is closing over his head, unbelievable.

Actually it's all over the local news here.

Caught it in this morning's print edition:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/12/AR2009011203005.html

The White House had high expectations for yesterday's final, historic
news conference. "ONE CORRESPONDENT PER ORGANIZATION," proclaimed the
bulletin sent to reporters. "STANDING ROOM ONLY FOR NON-SEAT HOLDERS."
But when the appointed hour of 9:15 a.m. arrived, the last two rows in
the seven-row briefing room were empty, and a press aide told White
House interns to fill those seats.

yet, in Bumfuck Ohio (or wherever Mulay says he lives) it's "all over

I just ran across something more--and, it's pretty funny, actually.
Apparently, there was so little interest in W's final press
conference, the White House had to fill the rows of empty seats with
office interns (what--so W wouldn't feel bad?!?!).
They'd been planning a big crowd--standing room, only.
Doh!

Actually it's all over the local news here.
HAHAHAHA

All over the "local news" in some bumfuck cowtown in Ohio?

Surely you can up with a link from your local cowpapers and prove it?

Meanwhile, I've posted hundreds of links showing no such news and live
in Los Angeles where there has been no mention in local news and no
mention on CNN or FOX.

Dana Milbank, panned by libs like Barbara Boxer and even Keith
Olbermann (banned from his show) and hated by the White House, Dana
Milbank is now the source of DickL's fantasy world.

Too fucking funny...

Do you know the difference between Federal and local response?

Bush can't be everywhere, that's why we have mayors and governors.

Geez, you libs just don't get anything.

A blind fool could see that was the case. Study after study shows the

Oh yeah, you mean the 13 propaganda conferences about who he selected

Any other serious question is answered by, "There's only one president

LOL
the Bush
administration ignored the press whenever possible, but he can't figure out
why relations with the press were often so cold, astonishing. He's truly an
amazing character, captain of the Titanic still denying he did anything

Unbeliavable is right. Magic Negro week is about to begin and you're

What are you going to do when he's gone? You going to actually pick up

The press is largely liberal, that didn't stop the NY Times from banging the

previous occupant of the Oval Office, fellow named Clinton, was royally
roasted by the press for most of his two terms. Odd that the liberal press
would attack a liberal President, isn't it. As for Obama getting a free

kicked out of them by the voters, cool, you go with that.

A blind fool could see that was the case. Study after study shows the
press is liberal and Obama got a free ride during the elections.
The press is largely liberal, that didn't stop the NY Times from banging the
war drum in the run-up to the invasion.
Yep, them and most other Americans (92% supported Bush after 9/11)
stabbed Bush in the back just a few short months later when it didn't
end like a video game with no deaths.

Libs are idiots who thought war was a game and and cheered and didn't
realize people would die and it would be a long fight like Bush said
it would be.
You might also recall that the
previous occupant of the Oval Office, fellow named Clinton, was royally
roasted by the press for most of his two terms.  Odd that the liberal press
would attack a liberal President, isn't it.
Are you capable of responding to what people actually post or do you
alwaysn have to make up some shit they didn't say and respond to that
instead?
As for Obama getting a free
ride, if claiming that helps you get over the Republicans getting the crap
kicked out of them by the voters, cool, you go with that.
LMFAO

The Pew study group found that FOX news was the ONLY news that gave
fair and balanced coverage to both candidates. ALL OTHER NEWS gave way
more positive press to Obama.

The Illinois senator lends himself to white America's idealized, less-

March 19, 2007
AS EVERY CARBON-BASED life form on this planet surely knows, Barack
Obama, the junior Democratic senator from Illinois, is running for
president. Since making his announcement, there has been no end of
commentary about him in all quarters — musing over his charisma and
the prospect he offers of being the first African American to be
elected to the White House.

But it's clear that Obama also is running for an equally important
unelected office, in the province of the popular imagination — the

You could hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle. They said Saddam had

be a mushroom cloud over an American city. It was bullshit, Saddam had no
WMDs, both Bush and Cheney have public said so in the past week so there's
no point pretending maybe Saddam sorta kinda might have perhaps had some
stashed away someplace. The justification for a war that has killed over
4,000 American soldiers and costs three billion dollars a week was false.
So take your pick, either they were too incompetent to judge the

invasion for other reasons, either way it is one of the greatest foreign
policy blunders in American history.

WMDs was "Curveball," a man German intelligence warned Washington was an
alcoholic compulsive liar not to be relied on. So how did the Bush

Iran has been given a huge boost, and the relative level of violence today

Al Qaeda instead of the American Army. As one commentator put it, it's like

Fantastic! You just can't make this stuff up!
The American language is quite often distinct from English.

Albeit very poorly. Dyslexia perhaps?

When he got talking about how "we maintained a light hearted
atmosphere" and even "joyous", "even in the darkest days of Iraq"...
Well forget about all the rest. I was particularly impressed with the
new word he introduced into the English language: misunderestimate.
Introduced? That's an old one. The chairman of the physics department
of the school I graduated from was particularly fond of it.
I assume the physics prof. used it properly as a double negative, i.e.,
meaning overestimate. Mine would have.

I have to debate as to whether it would be overestimate. Underestimate
as a double negative as I see it would be estimate. So, in effect we
have estimated his lack of competancy for the position. Or some
shit...

Possibly. I don't know. The only time I've ever actually heard it
(other than in Les's post) is from our fearless leader.

Oh my, seven days never seemed so long! ;-)

I think you are drawing a great deal of inference from the use of a
word. This is one sharp mother we're talking about. I took
the use of the word as a very imprecise term used to describe
imprecision. Positive, negative, I don't really care.

Life is not a term paper, folks.

He's actually used that one several times during his presidency.

He winked when he said it because it was a joke, he was poking fun at
himself as he has done previously in making jokes about his tendency to
mangle the language.

I like it. Something could appear to be better than you thought, causing
you to believe that you've underestimated it and prompting you to take some
action that you otherwise wouldn't have taken. If it later becomes apparent
that you'd estimated correctly, then you've acted upon an erroneous
underestimate or "misunderestimate".
