Online tax service that works with Slack

I live in the USA. For many years I have used TaXAct. This year they let me sign on using Firefox nut the service stall after the first page. Their help line suggested Windows instead. So I struggled with Win 10 but they insist on emailing me a confirmation code. I set up email but Windoze email program stalled when I attempted to open that email.

I can use another tax service but I don't want to go through all the setup process only to find that another vendor is equally unfriendly.

So if you:
live and pay taxes in the USA
Have done your taxes for 2017
did all this using slack
used an online tax service
had success

I called TaxAct and they said I not only needed Windows but also needed a particular release of Internet Explorer. So I abandoned that effort and signed on to Turbo Tax. They noted that I used Linux and while I could use them some illustrations might not work. Thus far I have had no show stoppers using them.
There price is higher but at least they will accommodate Linux users.

Last week I let my daughter use my computer. So when I signed on Google groups assumed that I was her. I have since fixed that problem.

As I understand it, there are two modes, Local or On Line.
Local is where you install the cd and everything is executed by
software on the system.

Can I assume you paid your Turbo Tax fee then went to their site and
had no problems so far? If so you did everything On Line.

If that is the case you might want to consider looking into H&R Block
next year.

I have VirtualBox installed with a Windows 7 guest where I did my
taxes with Turbo Tax in the "Local" mode until they bumped up their
cost a few years ago.

"Local mode" is where all the forms and whatnot are on the local
drive. Reason I run in the local mode is because I automated
converting my banks stock data output into the Short/Long format for
IRS reporting. I then only have to enter the summary data into the
proceeds screen and attach my detailed stock forms.

was entering my basic information and up popped all the Turbo Tax data
I had already done at home.

For the same year, for the 'incomplete' data you'd entered to that
point?

Or from last year?

The reason I ask is because the little known fact is that when you
'file electronically' with any of the tax prep software, your
electronic tax data is actually sent to the tax prep company, and they
then submit it on to the IRS on your behalf. [1]

So if you filed electronically the year before, what appeared might
have been the archived copy the tax prep company kept from last year
(can't disprove they don't keep copies, even with promises not to do
so).

Yup. When the clerk saw pretty much everything already entered she
asked me if I was already a customer and if I had been there
earlier.

I hear that. I print the forms and snail mail them myself at the Post
Office.

It is rather easy to setup an extra user account on a computer (or a
network if you use some kind of catalog service like NIS or ldap). With
her own login and home directory her browser will have different cookies
than your browser.
