I like Bill Maher, and never miss his program, but most of his show was terrible tonight

We are being sucked down the dark hole of fascism...disregard of the rule of law is rampant...secret police in Portland...violation of civil liberties...crooked deals for oligarchs...police brutality, all amid a pandemic with no end in sight, and Bill devotes the bulk of his show discussing liberals who don't like other liberals who disagree with them and how those liberals shame the liberals who don't agree with them.

His overly long segment featuring Bari Weiss and Thomas Chatterton Williams was a marathon of intellectual masturbation that has absolutely nothing to do with the tyrannical government and its oppression that we are living through now.

OK, there are some liberal purists who chide others that they perceive as not pure enough, but please explain why that should be important to someone whose unemployment benefits may stop at midnight tonight.

Bill, maybe you need another vacation.

It was a bit over long, but they made good points. It's the same thing
that's discussed on here - the far left shames the not quite as far left
for not being left enough.

I just think it's an over-exaggeration.

It's more of an internecine argument and has very little to do with the issues of our time.

It's largely academic and Bill wastes a lot of time on it from time to time.

I thought Kerry Washington was the best guest he had last night.

Weiss tried making the point that her editor (James Bennet) was fired
because he green lit a controversial editorial by Sen. Tom Cotton - but
that's only HALF the story, isn't it?

Turns out he solicited the piece from Cotton. Turns out the editor was
fired, in part, because HE DIDN'T READ THE EDITORIAL he approved to run.

"Bennet did not read Cotton’s editorial before it was published."
"Last week we saw a significant breakdown in our editing processes, not
the first we’ve experienced in recent years,” said A. G. Sulzberger, the
publisher..."

He didn't do his goddamned job. And, so, he 'stepped down'. Maher has a
good show, but sometimes he lets his own biases get in the way of the
truth. Just look at some of the vaccine crackpots he's had on... Sweet
Jesus!

Until his early teens, Bill Maher was unaware that his mother, whose
family was from Hungary, was Jewish. (the AK-DNA institute disputes
Maher's Juicyishness)

Where in the world is Bill Mayer? Can you find him at this cabal gathering?

Are those online tests still around where you answer a bunch of policy
questions, then they tell you which famous politician on the right or
left you most closely align with?

I took one several years ago and I came out closest to Hillary Clinton,
so I also get frustrated with the extremeness of the left sometimes.

But sometimes it takes being extreme to get people's attention and
create a strong political movement -- would the Republicans be as
supported as much today if they'd continued to be as meek as they were
in the '60s and '70s, before Ronald Reagan rose to power?

I’ve seen his show in the past and he’s a funny guy who is willing to
go after any subject but the fact is the Left/Dems are the standard
bearers for censorship and not only are they targeting Right/Reps,
they’ll go after their own for daring to set out of line.

This threat to free speech is the most pressing issue in our society
(and globally) nowadays, IMO.

You ever hear of this guy named Donald Trump? He wants to loosen libel
laws so he can sue people for saying things he doesn't like.

He's dying to censor journalists. You really ought to read about this
guy, Ed. He even wants to take away your guns without any due process.

Remember when you used to rail about 'due process'?

C'mon, Ed, this will never be your position. Even BLM is "free speech in
action" when no one is committing acts of violence and destruction. Why
would anyone support a movement that lacks a coherent argument just
because the movement itself is speech? Your position makes no sense.

Because I'm an American, I am concerned about the future of free speech
here and will always support more speech versus censorship. I would not
support legislation that would stop a boycott.

Nevertheless, I oppose the sanctions movement.
