iPhone 8: muted reaction and small queues lead to questions over demand
what it leads to are ignorant journalists.

the reason the queues are shorter are because people ordered online and
had it delivered, without the need to wake up at crazy hours or camp
out all nite long.

This is actually not true. I spoke with a Verizon rep who said about 250
of them worked that night and they spent most the time sitting around
doing nothing.

I spoke to a Verizon rep around 12:30am when they started taking
pre-orders and she also mentioned that they weren't getting nearly the
number of calls that they had expected.

we can only hope they do nothing.

i've yet to find any verizon employee that doesn't fuck over the
customer in some manner.

if they actually did nothing, then customers are (finally) safe.

that doesn't mean much.

there are other places to order online, namely apple.com, plus other
carriers, plus the rest of the world where (fortunately) verizon does
not operate.

I ordered mine online. I would prefer avoiding the store. The migration
process was painless. Do a cloud backup, turn off the old phone, turn on
the new... restore the cloud backup. The biggest hassle was that you
basically have to completely reset the Apple watch to pair it with a new
phone. And the series 0 is painfully slow in doing that.

it's faster via an itunes backup.

You are psychic. My wife and I did upgrade to Series 3 just recently. I
sold our Series 0 watches to my brother, as an inexpensive way for him
to give he and his wife a way to try out the concept. As far as I know,
the Series 0 is more or less functionally equivalent to the Series 3 w/o
LTE. Just slower.

series 0 lacks a built in gps, barometer and brighter display, is not
anywhere near as water resistant (splashes ok, submersion not so much)
and does not do abnormal heart rate monitoring and most importantly,
does not have a red dot.

also, as a ~2 year old device, its battery won't last as long as a
brand new battery will.

otherwise it's pretty much the same.

Good points. I remember reading about the water resistance. Some weird
thing where you turn the crown to "eject" whatever water has accumulated
in it's orifices. Lol, yep... that all-important red dot. However there
is a website... "watchdots.com" or something where you can now buy all
sorts of colored dots for the crown of your Apple watch. Problem
solved.

That's a pity. I want a new 'phone and was hoping to pick up a s/h iPhone 7
being sold by an "Ooh, shiny!" Apple fanboi.

You spelled "boy" wrong. I am an Apple fan. But the phone is far from an
impulse buy. Here in the states many cellular plans offer annual
upgrades for very little extra charge. And we actually skipped the 7
altogether. So it was time.

iPhone 8: muted reaction and small queues lead to questions over demand
http://tinyurl.com/ybpzyoq6
It's really only an incremental improvement over the iPhone 7. Many
people will be waiting for either the iPhone X or next year's iPhone 9.
Plus most people who want a smartphone already have one, so the market
is largely filled up already.

Of course that won't stop morons like those on Wall Street from
complaining and forecasting Apple's demise ... yet again.
